Brady IS the Patriots System

Well, tough start for the passing attack for the first four games - missing Edelman, Burkhead missing a lot, Gordon coming in late - then Gronk being dinged up and OUT for three games. Tough to get in sync. And it's not as if they've been playing all tomato cans in passing defense (top-10 rankings in bold; Pats losses in red):

TEAM . yds/gm . comp% ...... TDs .... INTs ...... SCK .... RTG ..... yds/att

BUF .. 202(1) . 64.4%(16) .. 14(3) .... 8(20) ... 25(19) . 86.7(5) .. 6.5(2)
JAX .. 210(3) . 61.2%(4) ... 14(3) .... 8(20) .... 21(27) . 86.4(4) .. 7.0(6)
GBY .. 223(5) . 62.5%(7) ... 16(10) ... 6(24) ... 34(3) .. 94.5(19) . 7.6(19)
HOU .. 235(8) . 62.8%(8) ... 17(15) ... 9(18) ... 28(14) . 88.2(9) .. 6.9(5)
TEN .. 235(8) . 65.3%(18) .. 14(3) .... 6(24) ... 23(24) . 93.8(17) . 7.4(13)
CHI .. 235(8) . 63.9%(14) .. 19(20) .. 20(1) .... 34(3) .. 78.3(1) .. 6.7(3)

Tomato cans, relatively speaking:
DET .. 238(13). 69.2%(29) .. 24(28) ... 4(29) ... 32(6) . 115.1(31) . 8.6(30)
MIA .. 250(19). 65.3%(18) .. 18(17) .. 15(2) .... 17(29) . 89.6(12) . 8.1(27)
IND .. 259(23). 72.0%(31) .. 16(10) .. 11(4) .... 26(16) . 96.4(21) . 7.7(22)
KCY .. 297(32). 63.2%(10) .. 20(22) .. 11(4) .... 36(2) .. 90.6(13) . 7.5(14)

Coming up (doesn't get easier):
NYJ .. 242(16). 62.3%(5) ... 17(15) .. 10(10) ... 22(26) . 88.0(7) .. 7.2(7)
MIN .. 226(6) . 64.2%(15) .. 13(1) ... 10(10) ... 32(2) .. 87.5(6) .. 7.5(14)
PIT ... 227(7) . 63.0%(9) ... 19(20) ... 6(24) ... 37(1) .. 93.6(16) . 6.9(5)

... Jete twice, plus BUF again, and MIA.
Phenomenal job with your statistical breakdowns, as usual. I wouldn’t expect anything else.

For me, the weather is getting colder, we haven’t been able to run effectively, and we haven’t really had things fully clicking in the passing game, so one of these things HAS to improve in order to have a legitimate shot.

The Pats ran effectively in wk-1 with (mostly) just White and Burkhead. For a three-game stretch (wks 4, 5 & 6) after Sony got his rhythm and before he was hurt in CHI, the ground game was very effective. It was even pretty effective against the Pack with White and Patterson.

If Sony is back to 100% this week, with Burkhead coming back next week (v. Minny), it seems like the running game should be pretty decent - IF everybody stays healthy.

The passing attack appears to be getting a happy - if not completely healthy - Gronk back for the Jete game. However, statistically, the Jete pass-D is on a par with the Jags, so it will be a real test.

OTOH, against the Jags, Brady did fairly well - considering that the ground game consisted of White and a few plays from Burkhead and Michel (in his first NFL game), and that Brady had only Gronk, Hogan, Dorsett, Patterson and Hollister to throw to. With the additions of Edelman and Gordon, and a more experienced Michel, one would think that the offense should be able to hang more than 20 on the Jete.

FTFY

Why do things always need to be so black and white?

Brady is not Brady without Belichick and Belichick is not Belichick without Brady.

Brady bought into Belichick's culture which in turn the whole team did and the result is the greatest dynasty in NFL history.

The Bill or Tom argument comes up all the time. I'm firmly in the Tom camp. We have plenty of examples of Bill without Tom or the Pats without Tom, and they have not been nearly as successful.

Brady is the reason they win and we'll see that after he's done.
Can I edit your post just a tad..?

Add the word more... As in Brady is reason they win .. more..... (Than with lesser QB..) ok? fair enough?

Now go Edelman.. Edelman is reason they win... More than with lesser slot guy...

Now go belichick... belichick is reason they win... More than with lesser guy.

Add up the mores and you get many more wins.

Following ?? It's a team game .. it's not Tom OR Bill.. unless you wanna compare percentages of wins v.replacement.. which is obviously more accurate but it leaves out the elements of dislike and manlove myopia on a position player. Clearly Brady is most important player to the team...

Interesting stat i just looked up. James white is currently our leading reciever with 567 yards, which ranks 36TH in the nfl.
