This right here! I don't know wtf that article is talking about. The gripe with Blount is him acting like a small back behind the line of scrimmage and tippy toeing and losing the speed that makes him so dangerous. Hurdling and making people miss when he gets going is cool. Act like a small back there, just not at the line of scrimmage. Sure sometimes he hits gold doing that, but it makes him very very inconsistent. That's my problem with him, I want to see positive yardage on every run to help the pass game.
Name one back who gets positive yardage on everyone. You probably also demand a qb who never throws incompletions. CBs who never give up receptions.

I always liked Blount.

PS: He averaged 4.3 yards last year behind that beat-up OL.

I like him too, but last year he couldn't pick up a third and one to save his life. Blount got all of his yards in the Redskins and (to a lesser extent the colts) game which padded his YPC (to an impressive level). It was a typical season for Blount where he explodes for 200 yards in one particular game but looks positively average in the other games.

I'll take a back with a higher percentage chance of getting that tough "third and one" yard over the player with a higher yards per carry any day.

Blount was an absolute beast today. Without those two iffy holding calls, he brought the Pat's into FG range an almost every series in the second half.

His TD run was just sheer will.

Blount was very good today but he needs to do a better job holding onto the ball. 2 fumbles in 2 games is not ok. That said we are realllllly gonna need him next 2 weeks. Let's hope he can repeat today's performance with better ball security

Bear in mind he only had 12 3rd down carries last season in total. I don't think you could make any meaningful conclusion from that. But FWIW, he had 8 3rd and 1 carries. He picked up a yard or more on 5 of those 8 carries. You could mix in a 3rd and 3 that he didn't convert if you want to cover short yardage and put him at 5 of 9. I don't have defensive data for those snaps, but can assume they were heavily loaded up for the run but he still converted more than half of those chances. Meanwhile the great Adrian Peterson converted 5 of 6 3rd and 1s, but extended out to 3rd down and 3 or less, only 7 of 10 conversions. Again, small sample sizes here.

As for yards and YPC, yes, the Colts game padded both YPC and yards. But the Redskins game, he only averaged 4.4 YPC. He had a higher YPC against the Texans (5.3) and Cowboys (5.7) than the Redskins game. And he only played in 11 games, but in 7 he averaged more than 4 YPC. In 2, he didn't get 10 carries (Jets game had 3 carries as an example). He had 50+ yards in 9 of those 11 games despite only getting more than 19 carries once (Washington, 29 carries for 129 yards). He was fairly consistent with his production throughout the season.

Again, not nominating Blount for the Patriots HOF or anything. But I think the memory is often tricked into reaching strange conclusions, and Blount gets the brunt of unfair accusations lately.

Well done on the stats - some very interesting figures in there, especially the third down numbers. While it's tricky to argue with cold hard facts, I maintain with the eye-test that his running last season looked soft, while his stats, admittedly, are solid. It's quite puzzling.

All that being said, Blount is running so much harder this season. Best part of today was some success running in obvious running situations. We simply could not run the ball when we needed to close out a game last year.

Blount has been running harder and seemingly putting in more effort than before. He wasn't leaping defenders and bowling over guys on third downs and goal line situations last season.

It's almost like he realized his job might be slipping away in preseason and it lit a fire under his ass. I love it so far and hope he keeps this up on a consistent basis. MVP of the game IMO.

I know what you mean. I was also quite down on Blount last season. But after looking at the numbers a bit more, I think it had a lot more to do with the rotating OL than Blount himself, or maybe the loss of Develin.

Either way, it was clear the coaches didn't want to run the ball as often as we have in the past, so they also seemed to lack confidence in the run game at times. But Blount probably got an unfair amount of the blame, when really, it was a lot of different things.

I remember some guys not happy about signing Blount, and thats understandable, or as we knew him as "Blount forced Trauma". I was so glad he got a space on the roster.
Glad he worked out. Always respected him. Hes a pretty good guy. Hes a bruiser back, and Id put him at top 25 bruiser backs of all time. They relay heavily on the OL to get up a head of steam, but extremely hard to bring down if everyone does their job on the OL.
I actually have Earl campbell as my #1 and Jim brown #2 as a bruiser back. Brown could bust threw using speed and power, but campbell could knock down any DL man with a 3 step and slower speed. If I was on the GL Id like Cambell. If was wanted a RB today on the GL Id want Blount. Blount is not a better bruiser than deuce mcallister was, but hes so impressive and the best in the game, and his durability is really amazing.

I think Blount is proving himself to be one of the most OL dependent RBs in the league. He looks like Marshawn Lynch with a strong OL. He would be a monster on the Cowboys.

If Cooper is the real deal at RG, Blount could honestly lead the league in rushing.

impressive...considering the Dolphins knew Blount would run w/ Brisett in.

4th in the league in rushing at the moment I believe.

Another example for goal line was Larry Csonka.

He was a battering ram with legs. Good luck stopping him for less than one yard.
