Black Monday coach firing thread

Please don't fire Philbin and Ryan

It's good for the Patriots to have average teams in their division with bad game management coaches.

Also lets not forget Shanny is a notorious Cheater when it comes to payroll "loop holes" The stunts he pulled in denver, and then what he attempted to do in DC, which ended up getting them fined something like 30 million off their cap over 2 years.

you can't fix a brain-dead QB

RG3? Gave Luck a run for his money in the first year which is saying a whole lot. The guy was injured this year and wanted to play. You must be thinking of someone else.

He's a one-look QB. DCs have contained the running QB and RGIII showed he's not smart enough. He's not in the level of Luck and Wilson

Jim Schwartz meeting with the Lions brass now.

That might be an opening to really interest McDaniels.
What do they even have to meet about? Schwartz just needs to go. But at least DET won their SB during the preseason against NE.

It would be fun to sneak up behind Joe Philbin in Miami this morning and yell, "Booh!" to see how high he can jump off the ground.

No kidding. The Fins totally collapsed down the stretch. Buffalo's pass D is pretty decent and the Jets D can always cause some problems but 7 points in two games? Ugh.

The word out of CLE is that the team was not improving under Chud is what led to him getting canned. From middle of Nov on, they had a bunch of winnable games and blew them all. Mental mistakes, etc. Not good.

Shanny was between a rock and a hard place with the RG III situation and with a already crappy defense completely collapsing in 2013 didn't help his cause.

Frazier had the same issue. QB situation was shaky and his franchise player was gimpy in AP and a horrific situation with the defense.

Schiano and Schwartz are next...

So glad you mentioned this.
Why the sports journalists (sic) don't mention that he's an inveterate salary cap cheat multiple times with multiple clubs should astound me but it does not. Cost his 1st team draft picks & fines. Guess we can't besmirch beloved Elway.

Schiano is gone from Tampa Bay, no surprise there.

Bucs Dismiss Mark Dominik & Greg Schiano | Buccaneers.com

“The results over the past two years have not lived up to our standards and we believe the time has come to find a new direction. Mark has been a valued member of our organization for two decades and we respect the passion he showed for the Buccaneers during his time here. We thank Greg for his hard work and effort the past two seasons, but we feel these moves are necessary in order to achieve our goals,” said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Bryan Glazer.

Bucs fire Schiano, Dominik | TampaBay.com

Schiano is a hard man who was hired for a hard job: changing the culture of a Buccaneers franchise that had gone too soft on players, discipline and expectations.

But what Schiano discovered over the past two years is that it's tough to tongue-whip a pro football franchise into shape. So on Monday, the former Rutgers coach was fired after only two seasons because of the one thing he couldn't micro-manage: the scoreboard.

Schiano went 11-22 in his two years, including losing his first eight games of 2013.

The firing comes after a tumultuous season that saw an erosion of trust between Schiano and quarterback Josh Freeman, who was benched after an 0-3 start and eventually released. There were accusations that Schiano rigged a vote for team captains and was responsible for leaking confidential information about Freeman's participation in the league's drug testing program.

The club also faced the distraction that came with three confirmed cases of MRSA, including a grievance filed by place-kicker Lawrence Tynes, who was put on the non-football injury list.

Schiano took over a team that had gone 4-12 in 2011 and lost their final 10 games in the third year under coach Raheem Morris.

He quickly established his heavy-handed approach, weeding out players such as tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., cornerback Aqib Talib and defensive tackle Brian Price.

Schiano was instrumental in a successful draft, selecting safety Mark Barron and running back Doug Martin in the first round and linebacker Lavonte David in the second.

Lions let go of Jim Schwartz.

He has a different style then Luck. Everyone was dismissing Kaepernick until recently. RGIII, hasn't been 100% all year, thus, not able to produce.

Another expected firing:

Lions fire Jim Schwartz.

Jim Schwartz Out At Lions Head Coach | CBS Detroit

Report: Detroit Lions fire Jim Schwartz after fourth losing season in five years | mlive.com

Jim Schwartz won 10 games during a surprising run to the playoffs in 2011. But he won just 11 more over the past two seasons, and the Detroit Lions ran out of patience.

The club wasted no time executing the inevitable, and axed Schwartz on Monday morning just hours after his 51st loss in five years, according to ESPN. The move was widely expected after presided over a second consecutive collapse.

He was the sixth head coach to be served his papers, following Tampa Bay's Greg Schiano, Washington's Mike Shanahan and Minnesota's Leslie Frazier on Monday; Cleveland's Rob Chudzinski on Sunday; and Houston's Gary Kubiak during the season.

Schwartz finishes his tenure 29-51 overall, the worst record of any coach in his first five years since John McKay of the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He reportedly has two years and more than $12 million remaining on his contract, which Detroit must still pay. But the Lions became willing to shell out the big bucks after the Lions' once-promising devolved into an ugly and mistaken-riden 1-6 finish.

The collapse cost Detroit its first division title in 20 years.

Yep, they are falling fast. Schwartz was just fired as well.

Schiano is definitely going back to college. Guy just isn't cut out for the NFL.

Tiquan Underwood quoted as saying "We have better talent than our 4-12 record. We as players have to take responsibility..." for Greg Schiano getting the axe. Uh, Tiquan, if you are correct, maybe that's why he got canned. Or maybe the Buccaneers sucked which is why the owner also fired the GM.

I hope Schiano goes to a place like the University of Texas. That would be a great minor league team for the Patriots.
