Sources: Bills trade Glenn, move up in draft

First they get a 3rd for useless Tyrod Taylor, and now they get the equivalent of a high 2nd round pick for Cordy Glenn, an overpaid LT who has had frequent injury issues, and who has only been mediocre when he's actually healthy? Really? I mean, there aren't LTs in the draft for Cincy who will come much cheaper than that?

The Bills could package their 2 firsts to move up to as high as #4.

I think it’s more of a reflection of the lack of talent in the league, compounded with the constantly revolving door of GM’s & Coaching staffs with a sprinkle of desperation.

The Bills will get their QB on this draft with that much ammo

It's a terrible draft for offensive tackles and Glenn is a top-10 tackle in the league when healthy. I'd rather have Glenn at his cap hit than whatever the Patriots will have to pay for Solder. Glenn's better and will cost less.

Also, the Bills literally have nobody of note on their roster except for Shady McCoy right now.

Yeah. Bills seem to be going in the wrong direction.

If the bills get a qb, they could be a force.

I like he moves they are making. Having a strong locker room is very important in today’s game.

Well, whatever. Personally, I think some of the QB talk is overrated. I’ll be damned if I’m scared of Sam Darnold. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson had a career completion percentage that never left the 50s.

It’s a QB desperate league, which reminds me that I don’t want to talk about trading Garoppolo. I get it that the timing was bad, although I still would’ve liked to see them plan ahead by saving some of that 65m in available cap space last year. I don’t know how much difference it would’ve made, but I’m going to stomp my foot, nonetheless, especially after reading Tom’s comments from his last documentary episode. It is what it is, I suppose. I would’ve liked one more (unrealistic) year to make that tough decision, or hopefully see Tom ride off a winner.

Glenn is always injured. Solder is reliable. And Glenn is at $14.5m.

So is talent. They had shed a lot of it just to be in a position to move up in the draft. If they screw up that QB choice after all of this, they will put themselves into another multi year hole.. the AFC East really is a dumpster fire again.. I cant believe that the Jets might be the closest thing to competition we will have this year..

The Bills are starting to act like a team on the rise. Good coaching and roster moves got them into the playoffs despite a good quarterback or elite defense. If the quarterback play doesn't drop off from that of Tyrod Taylor this upcoming year, I could see them as a 10-6 team. Can you imagine if they got an elite guy like Brees or a decent player like Kirk Cousins?

I dont think it is a rip off as much as a reflection on how bad this years draft and FA is for teams that need tackles. If they can still get whoever they wanted to target at their new spot in round 1 then they really didnt lose much in the trade. That theoretical value board is nice and all but in the end means diddly ****. What matters in the end is building a strong roster not putting together maximum draft chart value.

Depending who is quarterback, I could see them as a 10-6 team.

I am not sure what exactly makes you so high on them. For now they look like the second worst roster in the AFC East after Miami and since the story is that they will try to package their picks up to grab a QB in the top 5, there will also not be much roster relieve coming via the draft this year.

I am not even sure they will be competing for 6-7 wins this season.

Given their lack of success I'd say they've been stealing from the fans since inception.

Yeah, they've basically traded or lost all their best players besides McCoy in the last couple years and it's all to make a run at the third or fourth best quarterback in a class without any standout talent and who's unlikely to be any better than Taylor as a rookie... and may never be if he's thrown to the fire and forced to play with Zay Jones and Kelvin Benjamin.

Glenn's comtract was frontloaded. His cap hit is $11.5m this year and $9.25m and $9.5m the next two years., and the Bengals can release him after this season with no dead money at all. He's better when healthy, younger, and more affordable than Solder. When healthy is a key phrase but that's largely random and Solder missed most of the 2015 season.

Bills beef up their D-line

It can only improve after Taylor. He is really bad. Can't even imagine why Cleveland gave up a 3rd rounder for him. Dorsey is as big an idiot as the other guys they had there.

Their LT this year Dion Dawkins played better than Cordy Glenn. Dawkins was more mobile, though lighter. Glenn is more of a Marcus Cannon type.

Yeah, this isn't true. He's not a top-tier quarterback but he slots comfortably into the middle third of starters and he's better than several quarterbacks like Case Keenum who are getting big deals in free agency. It was a good move by the Browns and a puzzling one by the Bills who are left basically trading everything they have to move up and get a quarterback because the only one on their roster is Nathan Peterman, who isn't close to an NFL caliber passer.

They got lucky because Dawkins turned out to be a good player and it made Glenn expendable in their attempt to move up and grab a quarterback. That doesn't mean Glenn isn't a very good left tackle when healthy.

Tyrod Taylor is not a starter in the NFL, nor even a good backup. He is late on throws and misreads routes constantly. He throws to where the WR is, never leads him, and he throws late constantly. If Taylor is your QB, then your offense will suck. Badly. I can't begin to describe how bad this guy is. This will be a massive improvement for the Bills at the QB position. The only question is, who will sub for 1 year while the rookie learns the ropes? McCown?
