Bills FA CB Stephon Gilmore signs 5-year deal w/New England

It's like the Bills are a farm team for the Patriots.
Picture Gilmore lining up to cover Hogan in practice this year.." Dude you are not in Buffalo anymore".... Enjoy the chance (expectation) to be playing in February every year.....

What Ken has missed is that in a secret deal eavesdropped on by the CIA but not yet leaked to the media, Gisele has acquired 51% ownership in the Patriots and will be adding offensive FAs by the boatload for her hubby.

This seems to be more about Cooks than Gilmore. Also, considering there's been talk about Butler's dissatisfaction, it probably only meant Butler for one more year. Gilmore/Cooks offer long-term value.
And where has the "disatisfaction" talk been coming from. Anything from Malcolm?" I didn't think so.

When you phrase it as Cooks/Gillmore vs Amedola/Butler then yes, I suppose the Cooks/Gillmore is the better duo.

But if I look at this like this...........

Butler/Gillmore vs Cooks/Gillmore, well, I'll take the Butler/Gillmore everyday of the week.

I don't like waiting but these wrs are coming off the board. People say that wr might not be a need but jules's getting up there in age with amendola.

Has it been sourced? My bet is it's from his agent.

How is bb invested?
He can keep butler for 3.9 mill.
He can trade butler to 30 other teams.

How does it work when a tendered player is traded? What does the receiving team actually get? Surely it doesn't make the player a UFA (no one would ever make the trade then). Does he stay an RFA with the tender the original team put on him? Does it wipe out the tender but give the receiving team the option to put on the tender of their choice? Or does NE have to sign him before they can trade him?

He can't necessarily keep Butler for $3.9 mil. If a team offers Butler more than $3.9 mil and Butler signs the offer, NE has to match that to maintain control.
Or get a first.

See how fast crap like this turn from blind speculation to realistic rumor. In another hour it will be being reported as fact

BTW- were there any rumors about Gilmore? Of course not. That is how the Pats operate. They don't throw out straw dogs and hope someone agrees, and then do the deal. If it's a rumor than it's RARELY going to come to pass. So with this, we go from the ridiculous to the sublime

That about sums it up.

More likely, BB and Payton are doing this kabuki dance to generate interest for Cooks and depress the market for Butler.

Especially when Cooks asks for 14m, who would you give the money too Cooks or Butler (some suggest Cooks already wants paying)

Even if we sign Cooks do we need to move on from Amendola? He will sign for cheap and redo his contract likes always. Edelman Cooks Hogan Mitchell with Amendola as a cheap 5th makes sense to me.

Cooks is here to potentially replace Edelman as the #1 slot if we sign him.

Exactly, I would take it in a heartbeat if I were them.

Offense has been far from their biggest issue the last few years. It's been their putrid defense. Getting Butler would be a huge move for them.
It is SO much harder to find a top flight CB than a top flight WR. Top flight
CB's are much rarer. Butler is definitely worth more than Cooks, except Cooks is signed for another year, Butler would require an extension immediately which would require big bucks.

Taking all of this into account the trade should be either:

1) Butler for Cook straight up OR possibly

If this does not work I would suggest moving on from Cooks and go after Desean Jackson for 2 year deal and keep Butler for one more year

I really love this signing. Keep Butler and have shutdown secondary this year. Just sign Cooks in FA in a couple years.

Amendola would have to take a really big pay cut IMO. He would be pretty expensive, even at $2m, for a fifth receiver. The Pats may not even wish to carry 5 WRs on the final 53...

I would want them to. Amendola is dependable and clutch. He is fully in the Brady circle of trust. You can't understate the value of that. Also he seems to show up big in the playoffs when it matters most.

That would be my preferred option. However if Butler holds out and is ticked that puts a snag in that. You don't want a player here is doesn't want to be here. That doesn't lead to good things typically. That is something we can't know though.

However it is mute point as by this point i think Butler has already been moved or is set up to be picked up by a tender and the news has just not broken yet.

I wonder how pissed off Cyrus is going to be when he has to give up that jersey number. At least he may cash in.
