So you think so little of Sean Payton to believe that.. SMH..
The only way Payton lets it happen if he wants to drive up the price of Cooks for someone other than the Patriots..

Think what you want.i don't think it necessarily shows that BB prefers gilmore--we wouldn't know that for sure unless both were unrestricted free agents and BB chose gilmore.
what it shows is that BB wants to maximize the value of the RFA 1st-round tender, either by having butler under contract for an extra year at a big discount or by trading him for another valuable asset.

A decent point idiot Volin just brought up is Gilmore has played for a different DC pretty much every year

by "keep him" do you mean sign him to an extension instead of assigning the RFA 1st-round tender?Think what you want.
I think that if BB felt butler was a better corner he would keep him instead of paying 14 mill a year to bring in a FA.
I don't think the Saints and Butler necessarily need to agree on a long term contract. Pats can make the trade, and if Butler chooses to sign with someone else, Saints would have the option to match or receive a 1st.As I just posted in the other thread, here's how it works according to @Miguel
1) Saints and Butler agree on long-term deal. Butler signs RFA tender. Patriots trade a signed Butler to Saints.
2) Saints and Butler then execute long-term deal. Patriots have no dead money. Pats' cap space is increased by about 3.4M.
A good question is the difference for a corner between playing in an aggressive system or a more passive system.A decent point idiot Volin just brought up is Gilmore has played for a different DC pretty much every year

IF the Pats can retain (slot corner) Ryan for around $11M-$12M, then trading Butler +#32 for Cooks +#42 makes more sense.I think his status goes with him QM, but is a common sense observation that knowledge of the rules. So IF BB loses his mind and makes this trade, Bulter would be a RFA with a first round tags. So it does not mean he's automatically in line for a raise.
My personal preference is that he stays under the RFA tag. The thought of having two standout CB's (and all the depth and flexibility that it causes) greatly outweighs the prospect of adding a WR to an already strong group. Not only would be be a great DB group, it would give the Jones boys another year to develop IF Butler goes after 2017.
Plan B would be to not match any offer for Butler and grab the #1 pick and us it on one of the solid CB prospects that will still be available in the 20's. It won't help much this year, but should work out long term.
I have no plan C, nor do I want one
BTW- if we want to add a different skill set to the WR's simply re-sign Michael Floyd.

some nice wideouts, but this is the best corner class in many years.Obviously you didn't see the combine. I like some of the wideouts in this draft.

Isn't his named spelled "Stephon" and also not pronounced "Steven"?
You say that as if it's a bad thing...Oh man... guys... As if Andrew Brandt is sitting in the Saints front office right now. He's based in Philadelphia, PA.
How can you trade a player you don't have under contract?I don't think the Saints and Butler necessarily need to agree on a long term contract. Pats can make the trade, and if Butler chooses to sign with someone else, Saints would have the option to match or receive a 1st.
How can you trade a player you don't have under contract?
Can we trade Butler's rights and then sign him to an offer the Saints can't match? Theoretically?Because you own the rights to said player by having tendered him an Restricted Free Agent offer.
That is how the Pats acquired Wes Welker.. They traded a 2nd and a 7th for Welker's rights and then signed him.
They mentioned he's having a child. I'm betting on a girl, a Gilmore Girl.im Happy for Gilmore
