If someone signs Butler and we don't match, does that effectively mean we traded Butler for Gilmore and got a first round pick as a bonus?

If this does not work I would suggest moving on from Cooks and go after Desean Jackson for 2 year deal and keep Butler for one more year
This keeps coming up. Its not happenning. However if butler holds out and is ticked that puts a snag in that.
The last part says it all.
Objectively you probably value butler higher than NFL execs. BB just showed us he prefers Gilmore and I'm sure Gilmore wasn't in your top 5.
You can't negotiate trades emotionally.
How does it work when a tendered player is traded? What does the receiving team actually get? Surely it doesn't make the player a UFA (no one would ever make the trade then). Does he stay an RFA with the tender the original team put on him? Does it wipe out the tender but give the receiving team the option to put on the tender of their choice? Or does NE have to sign him before they can trade him?
I wonder how pissed off Cyrus is going to be when he has to give up that jersey number. At least he may cash in.
But then people complain if the Pats don't sign top free agents. Then when they do it's about taking care of your own.
I like Amendola too and I value his trust with Brady & beautiful clutch hands, but the fact is that he's simply got less upside/potential than Mitchell and probably lower on the depth chart. I hope he stays but I can see him getting let go easily.I would want them to. Amendola is dependable and clutch. He is fully in the Brady circle of trust. You can't understate the value of that. Also he seems to show up big in the playoffs when it matters most.
That is too bad. I think BB and Mcdaniels may want to avoid Pats offense becoming too predictable with 4 very similar receivers in terms of speed (Amendola, Edelman, Mitchell and Hogan).Desean Jackson is signing with Tampa Bay..

A true "burner" would really spread the field, decrease the press coverage and really give more options for Pats to become more consistent and explosive on offense.
Other than John Ross, not sure there is a real "burner" available in draft, so trade or free agency made most sense
I think his status goes with him QM, but is a common sense observation that knowledge of the rules. So IF BB loses his mind and makes this trade, Bulter would be a RFA with a first round tags. So it does not mean he's automatically in line for a raise. How does it work when a tendered player is traded? What does the receiving team actually get? What we know about BB:Butler/Gillmore vs Cooks/Gillmore, well, I'll take the Butler/Gillmore everyday of the week.
Do you REALLY think that Payton would be talking trade where someone like Brandt could hear it? I don't.
