I don’t buy it either. I think they were seeing the ghosts of David Tyree and Mario Manningham at that point. The look of horror on Brady’s face after the Kearse catch said it all. I think they were all shell shocked.
Had they lost that game, he’d be 0-3 in Super Bowls since 2007 and going on 11 years without a Super Bowl title. You are lying to yourself if you think that thought was not in the back of his head after his defense just let the Seahawks trot down the field with ease and about to go in for the game winning score.Belichick didn't even flinch when Amendola scored the game winning TD against the Jaguars while the whole sidelines, including the coaches, were going nuts. But yeah, he totally seems like a guy that gets shell shocked.

Or for a guy they got off the scrap heap from Chicago.Um, I know one who wouldn't bench a first-round pick for an astronomically superior in every way experienced proven 5th round pick
Go the next step further. Butler wasn't just not-ready to go for the Super Bowl, he'd played like dogshit most of the season. You blame BB for being hard-headed and not at least trying to see what he can do. I get it.
I blame MB for not being ready, prepared and focused on the game which by BB knowing that, basically eliminates him from any consideration of playing in the defense.
I haven't gone there because for the first 18 games he played 97% of the snaps. In theory that tells us even with MBs deficiencies and average year, he'd still play him. I do think BB felt his smallish frame was a bad matchup on the outside vs the Iggles bigger receivers.Go the next step further. Where does all this irrational confidence in Butler's ability come from? A single play he made 3 years prior? He let the team down all season, and then leading up to the biggest spot of the year, did it again. Belichick didn't think he could help the team. I support him in that, considering the trajectory of Butler's season, and everything we've actually heard people say, since then, rather than this romanticized notion that, despite all available evidence to the contrary, Malcolm Butler would magically swoop in and single-handedly win the game.
2017 Malcolm Butler and 2014 Malcolm Butler are two very different people.
Players on this team aren't told they start until the day of the game. Depending on matchup, injury and game plan it varies
When an employee doesn't perform, he removes himself from consideration and self-selects himself out of the jobright, so it was the coaches decision and the result is on him

Based on the entire week leading up to the game, it came down to BB having more confidence in them than Malcolm to execute the game plan.Super Bowl 52 was a league mandated 60 minutes of plying time. What, pray tell, in the first 30-40 minutes of that game gave you the confidence that EricRowe/Johnson Bademosi/Jordan Richards were “performing”?????
Your argument is simply insane. That game was a situation of banging ones head against the wall without stopping. You’re one of he people who wouldn’t choose to stop. Philadelphia thanks you!
If you want people working for you who aren't prepared to do their job, thats your decision. He didn't trust or have confidence in MB to do what would be asked of him. It's quite simple really.lol......bullsh1t

You don't buy that. Thats your issue- not mine.

Seems like the mandate failed where the defenses were concerned. All tolled between the two D's I don't think they truly plyed their trade for more than 10 minutes
