DRAFT BGC 2021 Pre-Draft/Patriot-Type Prospect(s) thread

These align with The Athletic article then. The top tier DL have bottom 2nd, top 3rd round ratings. That's the best ones. That strikes me as a remarkably poor year for the DL harvest. Am I wrong?
I think you're not wrong here. There isn't a Brown/Kinlaw type like last year. I think some guys do have talent to develop into a fulltime starter or at least specialist contributor like McNeil or Shelvin as good 2 down run defender or Barmore third down DT if potential to develop into a three diwn linemen.
Maybe the DL is all about FA this year?
I hope for us yeah..i'd like to sign Harris compare him with a NT from draft maybe and bring Guy back would be nice. Don't think we sign two top tier DT like Harris and Tomlinson

All very impressive at their weight but probably Oweh, Parsons, Horn in terms of lbs. Still that's a great number for Horn, really good. Him, Surtain, Farley all need to confirm or put up big numbers imo. NFL is full of speedy, shifty guys and eventually you get matched up on them if you're not careful. Pat Pete found that out that hard way the past few years.
Who's Pat Pete? Mister Pumped N Jacked in Seattle?

EDIT: never mind, I'm now ass-uming you mean Patrick Peterson.

Pats have now met with 5 prospects twice. Felton, D Hayes, Yeboah, Thomas Graham & Amari Rodgers. All Senior Bowl prospects.

Hope Billy doesn't plan on drafting Any of them before Day 3...

Wait, what do you have against Amari Rodgers and Demetric Felton? Either of them would be very solid value in round three IMO. EDIT: Of the others, I'd only look at Hayes or Yeboah in the 6/7th, and even then with some reluctance. Felton and Rodgers I'm quite favorable toward, however. I'd take either one at the end of the second with a trade down.

Regarding the earlier discussion of interior DL: It's not a great class for a franchise cornerstone, do-it-all type, but I think there are some viable two-gap run-stuffers. That's good enough for me.

Do we have a pro day thread? PFF has a solid tracker, and Math Bomb on twitter is a GREAT follow (@BaconGrundleCandy mentioned him earlier; the guy is super nice and helpful if you contact him about his RAS program), but I don't think we have a dedicated thread. Anyway, Jonathan Marshall was on my list of guys to watch more closely, and he just DOMINATED his pro day. I mean, to the point where I wonder if his numbers are even real. WOW. His fastest time was reported at 4.75 -- I see that he got adjusted to a 4.9, which is probably closer to reality.

Mentioned him as one of my binkies in the specific thread. I like him as a Day 3 option to get competition upfront and hopefully better depth while developing him.

Butler replacement?

Butler replacement?

Good comp in playstyle, I think. This is a highlight reel, so obviously it doesn't give you the full picture of his strengths/weaknesses, but it's easy to see the athleticism pop. He's a very easy mover for an interior lineman. Intriguing athleticism, but his low production makes it hard for me to say that he's anything more than a late round/PFA guy.

How does his production compare to say a Butler or Guy? If he was the guy that opposing teams keyed on in regards to the Arkansas defense, that would explain his low production.

Yeah Rodgers & Felton are borderline late 3rd-round guys to me, preferably in the 4th round...I want to see how the first 95 picks shake out before locking-in on them; maybe somebody like Dyami Brown slips through the cracks...

Or maybe tutu slips. He may be tiny, but he is really fast.

Did the LG from BYU announce for the Draft? I did not follow their declarations for the draft. Interesting where those prospects will land, it's really tough to figure out. I think Humphrey has no real versality so good point Meinerz could sneak in front of them bc of flexibility. How much technique works need Meinerz and what about line calls and recognition? Idk how good he is at that stuff
Nope. Only Hoge & Christensen I believe.
Meinerz needs to really work on his footwork and timing. He wasn't concerned about any resistance at the D3 level so he'd bully his way around the field. Feet aren't always under him. There are times where he'll try to overpower opponents and lose technique. Played strictly G in college but I heard he's been working on that stuff the past few months. Watching film to recognize tells. He's already known to be a worker in that area. Seems to have np putting in the time.
Yep I would take those 3 in a heartbeat. For a No.1 WR we would get you could resign Guy and a NT like Tomlinson and solve two needs.

I am not that thrilled about the Moore's in rd. 1 before 25 or sth. I think that might be a reach even though they could easy end up late first rd. In a trade down i prefer Collins if he's there or Oweh but he could be a riser. An additional second rd. pick would be great tough.
No it's not ideal but one of the Moore's plus a 2nd is tough to pass up if we want to go WR.

Sorry for late response. Been trying to reply all day but it's always something.

Not sure if we started one but i was going to do a Pats visits/tracker and maybe we can combine the two?

This is why Scar was one of the best OLine coaches in the business. He asks can a guy play or not and perform specific things at a high level against their man, not some silly metric like arm length to rule a guy out. Bill Walsh made players do actual football plays during draft evals. Meanwhile our WR and CB draft systems are totally broken focusing on a player's height and other dumb metrics.

I like him but second rd. seems a little bit too high for me. I wouldn't mind him in the third but idk if he lasts that long. It would be a little bit too risky with a Ferentz type of C and Meinerz for me, if we don't resign Andrews. Maybe Karras and Meinerz will work since Karras knows the system here and is a solid pass blocker.

I can't see us going WR if it's not Smith/Chase/Waddle in the first tbh. We need a Number 1 and I have doubts we get one in FA. I'd be happy with Curtis Samuel and Meyers as second and third with a draftee but if it's not one of those 3 i am not sure others can be a No. 1. Of Course the whole No.1 thing might be a bit overvalued and i'd certainly don't mind a WR Corp out of Samuel,Meyers and Moore. I'd prefer others tough since I think if we have a shot at a three down DE we gotta take it, since those dudes get huge overpaid in FA and i don't think we should sign one in that range but it's huge value and need for our defense. I think we can find some solid WR later with Brown/Smith/Eskridge hopefully in the third.

It's all good, no worries

@BaconGrundleCandy , glad to see you read The Athletic. I don't have much time to spend on the draft but love it.

This morning's Athletic article on the top 30 defensive prospects, based on NFL scouts' opinions, left me with the sense that there isn't a single DL that has a good shot at being a star, or even a solid starter. Not a single one. Your thoughts, in the context of the Pats' apparent needs?

Yes exactly. I won't have a first on any IDL (interior defensive line) or Edge/Rush prospects. Unless we really love someone I'm trading back for one of ... Nixon, Barmore, Onwuzrike, Tufele, Twyman, Shelvin & maybe 1-2 others. In the 2nd round. Late first if we really love one.

For edge/rush I'll probably have higher grades on Paye, Oweh, Weaver & Basham than the IDL guys but still in the 2nd. So I wouldn't hate a slight trade back for either Paye or Oweh. Weaver and Basham in the 2nd unless we really love one.

It's a good year for trading back.

I might have 2 CB with first. Maybe one. Same for LB. Probably 3-4 S with 2nds.

Probably only 10-12 prospects I'll have a 1st on.

100% making changes to the Pats Big Board this weekend. I'll start tonight after a nap and a nice meal. Can't wait it'll look a lot different. Lance's hands are slightly bigger than Burrow's and he's a got perfect size.

You got dillon randuz’s measurements? This tackle class could be better than advertised.
