Patriots Player Departure Bentley released

They will use 1 or 2 Lbs per down, depending upon situation

They have Spillane, Gibbens, Tavai, Ellis.
They gave Bentleys money to Ellis probably because he can also contribute on special teams and there doesn’t look like a lot of snaps for either.

I guess Vrabel doesn’t agree with those who used Bentley being injured as the excuse the D stunk
I agree, i think they will run alot of 4-2-5. I also think that they will try tavai as an edge rushes and Mapu as an off ball LB. At least I would. I also would not be surprised to see either traded or cut.

I also think that Jennings is going to get a shot at edge pass rusher. At Bama he was very good at getting to the QB. In the 3-4 his role was not to rush the QB very often

Even if it’s 3-3-5 one of the “lbs” is the edge who you call a DE in 4-2-5
I 100% agree on Mapu
Tavai will be a super sub

I don’t get just flat out releasing him.
I was watching on patriots reporting locally on YouTube that it was a change that Vrabel is favoring speed in his LBs.. one has to wonder why Tavai is still sticking around.

Bentley total team first guy, locker room leader and just an awesome guy in general.

I have a tough time believing that they couldn’t even get a 6th rounder for him.
I'm thinking like andrews out of respect for Bentley and how good a person he was In the organization.. it's more respectful to release a player to let him choose his next destination. Vrabel likely didn't try to trade him.

They just gave Tavai a contract extension last season, the dead cap hit to let him go is too steep. Trade maybe, or maybe just hang onto him for another season then let him go.

Bentley is going to be 30 years old, coming off a season ending torn pectoral injury and entering the last year of his contract so he needed a new one. I predicted this could happen weeks ago. He’ll catch on with a team that can utilize his scheme fit soon enough, he needs to prove he’s healthy.

Agreed there wozzy.. I like Bentley and what he meant to the organization easy guy to root for.. Tavai would be a guy to keep around in the rotation guys get banged up in a 17 game season. We need to have good depth on defense.

I’d trade Tavai if possible, just don’t see a market for an average athlete lunch pail LB getting paid that much. But maybe they find a LB desperate team, maybe some team in camp sustains some injuries.

Spillane was a head scratcher for me because of the lack of speed, but he is very instinctive

Underlying message may be Vrabel walked into a bad locker room and is excusing the captains who bought into the Mayo debacle.

Culture. Quickness. Football IQ. Tough.

Contract… millions of dollars always plays a part… a lot more than feelings do.
