Last year's captains:
  • * Jacoby Brissett, left
  • * Deatrich Wise, left
  • * David Andrews, released (failed physical)
  • * Ja'Whaun Bentley, released (failed physical)
  • * Joe Cardona, released
  • * Jabrill Peppers, still on roster but lost captainship
So who do you think gets them now?

If I had to guess, I'd say that Maye and Schooler are now locks. Beyond that . . . not sure.

My guesses:

Hunter Henry
Morgan Moses
Mack Hollins
Robert Spillane
Kyle Dugger
Brenden Schooler

(Final answer, I kept editing this lol)

Will Campbell is a wildcard choice too but I’ll go with the above six

Dugger and Henry were late-appointed captains last year, I can see them retaining the roles this year. I expect Morgan Moses will be a captain too. That leaves one more, likely on defense. I could see Spillane as exactly the type of player Vrabel would want others to emulate.

Hunter Henry & Kyle Dugger keep it from last year
Mack Hollins - They want a captain they trust to mentor the young WRs and he's Vrabel's guy. Also he can be the defacto STs captain.
Morgan Moses - They want someone to set the tone for the OL. And if they thought Onwenu was the guy they would have made him one last year. So it falls to the new vet. I think he's been a captain before. Not 100% sure.
Spillane - Vet and captain for Raiders under McDaniels. He'll put in a good word for him and they want a captain at the second level.
Milton Williams - Never been a captain, but they not only need high character guys, they need big dogs on the team to step up and lead. Milton is face of the D. They also want him to be the tone setter.

Was Brady ever a captain?

If I were on that team and saw the fates of the previous captains I'd be all "Imma just be a corporal if that's okay."

- Drake Maye
- Morgan Moses
- Milton Williams
- Robert Spillane
- Christian Gonzalez
- Brenden Schooler

Lock: Maye
Near locks: Spillane, Moses

The rest are up for grabs in camp.

Drake
Schooler
Landry
Henry
Dugger
I think are most likely not sure who the 6th will be. I'll guess either Milt or Gonzo.

Drake Maye
Morgan Moses
Brendan Schooler
Robert Spillane
Mack Hollins
Milton Williams

Maybe Will Campbell, but I am not sure how Vrabel will view rookies. I don't think he's going to **** on them like some other coaches might have, but I am not sure if he'll elevate either.

Yes, I know players vote, I would assume that the coaching staff can veto it if they choose.

Baker
Diggs
Peppers

jk

Maye
Henry
Moses
Schooler
Spillane
Dugger

It seems we are primed for a shift toward Offensive captains for the first time in a long time. It's been an overly defense/ST run captains room. Here's my top choices for captains:
On O - Maye, Henry, Moses + (darkhorse Bourne and/or Gibson)
On D/ST - Peppers, Landry, Spillane, Schooler + (surprises Gonzo, Milton)

Drake Maye
Morgan Moses
Brendan Schooler
Robert Spillane
Mack Hollins
Milton Williams

I don't think it's automatically a vote. That's how BB did it. I'm not sure what Mayo did. But I'm pretty sure the coach can choose them if he wants.

Drake Maye

Morgan Moses

Hunter Henry

Stefon Diggs

Christian Barmore

Robert Spillane

Christian Gonzalez

Brandon Schooler

Updating my predictions:

Drake Maye
Morgan Moses
Mack Hollins
Milton Williams
Kyle Dugger
Brendan Schooler

Three offense, three defense, with Hollins and Schooler also doubling as special teams representatives. A captain for every level: Maye the QB, Hollins for the skill position players on offense, Moses for the OL, Milton Williams for the DL, Dugger for the LB level of the field (I’m cheating here but he functions as a box safety at times) and Schooler for the secondary (free safety who mainly plays special teams). Three guys with the team last year, three new additions to the team. Dugger would be the only incumbent retaining his captain status but he makes sense as the now longest tenured Patriots player on the roster.

The one I’m struggling with omitting is Will Campbell. If the players vote on the captains then there’s a good chance the rookie gets picked. I just feel like Moses is a stronger choice as the more experienced guy and I don’t see two offensive tackles getting the nod.

As Joseph Stalin allegedly said:
"The power does not lie with those who cast the votes, but with those how count the votes??
Perhaps that is the reason why BB's captains sometimes looked suspect.
