I think Kraft gives Bill a lot of rope but it's perfectly reasonable to have a more critical eye on the football operation when the team is not successful.
This is a big topic, maybe too big to discuss here. But Kraft has 24 years of experience with Belichick. For the vast majority of that time he was the best decision maker in the sport, maybe ever.
It’s comical that people here like to pick out decisions that didn’t work out as if they are damming when the reality is that everyone making decisions in the nfl makes many that don’t turn out well. It’s the nature of the sport, the nature of competition, the nature of a league that tries to reward losing teams to even the playing field.
Teams that win are the ones getting the highest percentage of decisions right, not getting them all or anywhere near close to all right.
Belichick consistently has been the guy getting the most right. His structure of the organization, his knowledge, experience and ability is why. The framework he uses to make those decisions is sound, and again, maybe the best ever.
That those decisions have worked out less often in the short term doesn’t change that. Kraft surely knows he can’t improve it by making Belichick “sell” him on ideas and vetoing as if he knows better. And he had a 24 year track record with the man.
Fans want to punish someone and get retribution for the inevitable down period.
Kraft will not overlook ability in favor of short term results and out his organization in less capable hands until belichick decides he is ready to retire.
The analogy is a stock trader. The good ones are right a little bit more than wrong. When you have the best one, and you trust his sound judgment and skills you don’t yank your money and give it to someone you have no experience with because of a few losses.
The people calling for Belichicks head are likely people who are the market drop and react by taking retribution against investing by selling at a loss.
