Belichick signed to long term contract

I do not understand why the coaches salaries and contract terms are not made public just like the players.
The secrecy around this is ridiculous. The public should know how many years he is signed for and how much.
Why?

Go back and read it.
Looks like I'm going to need a lot more popcorn.

No, maybe you folks should read. Here it is again:
LOL!! Nothing like a guy who doubles down when multiple people interpret his post one way, but he insists it means something else....

I can't help but noticed how you conveniently edited out half your post (hoping no one noticed)..... that's pretty much admitting the point I have been making. Thank you.

Would be nice to know the details.

I doubt the contract is to keep Bill in his dual HC/GM role indefinitely and it shouldn't be anyway. I believe BB is done here as GM.

If it's just to keep Bill in the organization then Kraft will have plenty of options if they want to make any changes. Bill can always go upstairs.
I highly, highly doubt Belichick signed a deal committing him to New England multiple years but they can put him in any position they want. Quite honestly, I don't even think such a contract is legal within the NFL framework for a head coach.

Since the Pats played well yesterday and beat a team they had no business beating, I think the Belichick being fired should be placed on hold for at least one week. At least on my part. Hopefully, this is a turn around for the team and discussion of him being fired will look silly at the end of the season.

One thing I will say, I heard on the radio that if Belichick is fired, there is likely an agreement that his pay may be spread out a long a number of years beyond his contract length. For example, if he still has two years at $25 million a year left, the Patriots would have ten years to pay it if he is fired rather than over the two years.

Does anyone have a concrete report on this? Or is it all based on that one Rappoport tweet?

Without details, it's tough to argue. Kraft was publicly demanding more of Bill, so to think that just "re-up" contract, without revision, seems ludicrous. Then again, he is a gigantic coward.

Guess we'll have to wait for 2024 to see what will be really different

FWIW, Fitzy and Andy Hart mocked Rappaport as a willing dupe who will report whatever BS the Patriots or Belichick would give him. They claim that Ian has spread BS for the Patriots that didn't hold up to scrutiny in the past.

Thanks

This could well be the case.... And there is enough leeway in Rap's tweet/video that it could be "gentlemen's agreement" deal, but it's not offical.

The more I think about it, the more it seems just a like a smokescreen. It changes nothing practically, but it's a good for table bar discussion

I keep seeing the "take away the GM duties" and I don't see any way that can work. If they give Groh full control over the roster he's Bill's guy anyway. If they bring in a new guy then it will be a "my players" vs "his players" thing.

I also find it hard to believe Kraft saw Bill take a DC and turn him into an OC and have disastrous results then say "You know what? Sign this iron clad deal I have no way of getting out of"

Well, it can work in the sense Groh takes what Bill wants/needs in a player and "buys the groceries" based on his own selection criteria and decision-making. The question is how much of that criteria is dictated by Bill. For instance, did Bill tell Groh to sign Parker and Juju or did Groh go to Bill and push for it?

It's clear Bill sold him on the concept and based on his track record of unorthodox but successful decisions Kraft gave him the latitude. Clearly after the 2022 season Kraft asked Bill to go in a different direction.

Either way you point is valid. In 2024 they will likely have a top 10 pick and a s***tload of cap space. I'm not 100% convinced the current regime is the right dynamic to get the team back to being a Super Bowl contender. Time will tell.

Unless Groh is just getting vetoed by Bill constantly I would be worried to have Groh leading the way as well. If he isn't then I could see him and Bill butting heads. It has to be impossible to do something your way with impunity for two decades then have to hand over the power.

I would be more optimistic if Bill changed his strategy to roster building with Mac but so far it has been the same way he built it with Brady. A bunch of B and C tier plays on offense and that doesn't work unless you have a generational QB like Brady. The other young QBs who have found success have all followed the same path. Draft or trade for a true number one receiver and Bill just doesn't seem to value the receiver position enough to do that.

Why? Lots of contracts and agreements are private. That is very common.

The players are part of a union and their salaries are part of the collectively bargained salary cap (% of the earnings), so their salaries have to be known to be part of the agreed upon calculations.
Every other sport makes it public
Its relevant to team performabce and sports betting.

Honestly, if Bill can just get his GM control taken away that alone would make this more palatable. I dont think that alone would win us a super bowl, but it would make the team competitive because i still know he can coach up the defense.

I'm more in line with this.

I think even as a coach there's enough material for a change but I would be OK with him having only coaching assignments. I can see him adapting, he's been doing this for a long time. Maybe there's just too much on his hands right now and he needs help and is refusing to assume that.

He doesn't have room for more mistakes in roster building anymore, and he will make mistakes just like every other GM because it's the nature of this job but everytime he miss it will be just another mistake on a huge pile of ****, at least the next guy will have some time to do his thing.

I've heard a few times in recent years, "Belichick only wants to coach the guys he wants to coach", translating, he wants the good guys, the team leaders, good locker room guys, community guys, nerds, etc...man look at the great, difference maker WRs in this league, Diggs, Hill,, Brown, Deebo, etc, they want the ball , they want to make those huge plays and stat pad in order to sign huge contracts, they are egocentric and that's fine, but not for BB and this is a problem.

Like most privately-held companies, the Patriots aren't required to make any of their financial information public. They don't, just like 30 other NFL teams.
What's curious about this report is that previously the Patriots let it be known that only four people were privy to the contractual status of BB: Bill, Robert, Jonathan, and Bill's agent. It would be interesting to find out who leaked this info and why.
For all those who think that Robert needs to replace Bill the GM, remember the GM who Robert hired before BB--Bobby Grier.
We could do a lot worse that what we have now.

It’s funny how people think Belichick is the mighty oz making decisions behind a curtain and Kraft is on another continent getting reports of what happened and forming a judgment.

Every information we have ever been given has indicated the Kraft is involved and aware and consulted but trusts his expert to make football decisions
