Belichick Raving about Garoppolo: Increasing Trade Value or Preparing for the Unthinkable?

Ugh... I feel like it's probably pumping Jimmy's value up but... Jesus... the alternative is possible and makes my stomach turn.

And I love Jimmy and his potential. But. Life without Brady is scary.

Bold praise considering JG has seen 1 1/2 games of action and TB12 has shown his stuff for like 250 games.

I wonder if the quote was missing its context in the broader transcript.

If he means this it tells me one of two things..

A. He isn't going anywhere
B. He's not going to get low balled an his trade value

Guess we shall see.....

Personally I want to keep him because I think we have something here in him but unfortunately I don't see how we can with Tom wanting to play at least a few more years. I could never imagine the Pats dumping Tom for JG.

Surprised how many commenters in the PFT article thought Jimmy was only worth a 2nd.

If Jimmy only brings a 2nd then there is no way BB will trade him.

His value as a capable backup and insurance against a Brady injury or sudden decline is worth more than that, as well as the likelihood of the Pats getting a 3rd-4th round comp pick if they keep him and he signs elsewhere.

Absolutely... another year of him on the roster plus a 3rd round comp pick is worth much more than one 2nd rounder.

Relax, people. This is the same Bill Belichick who told us that all 3 of his QBs run the same offense.

It's about the nuance.

It depends on the team.

The Patriots probably aren't going to get much for Jimmy from a win-now team who just needs a QB to give them a chance at a championship this year or next.

A young team looking to build and be contenders a couple years from now will probably be a different story.

To be honest I think it plays into our hands that next years QB draft class is historically bad. I hope we move him and get a top 10 pick back in return. Which would most probably give use 2-3 additional high draft picks.

I think the explanation is probably much simpler: Brady has a sore leg and JG is starting the next game against SF.

If another team offers a first round pick, he's going somewhere.

Really, what did people expect him to say? That the offense sucks and the transition is not seamless when Garoppolo subs in for Brady?

to the pats, he's worth more than a 1st rounder.....they can get that **** with a franchise tag next year

the same way you know whatever it is you know.........it's called an opinion

Fair enough, but I don't see it. At least not while Brady is still playing the way he's playing. The Pats are staring at the possibility of having to rebuild significant portions the defense on the fly next season and I highly doubt Belichick is going to want to dedicate that much of a cap hit to the quarterback position if Brady is still playing at a high level. Now, if Brady falls apart at some point in the second half of the season, I'd imagine they'll keep him. And I would want them to. But that remains to be seen.

the tag would be to hold him for a trade.......if you haven't noticed, there are 32 teams, but I would dare to say only 10 starters who put there teams within a whiff of getting to the SB......he has a puny sample set, but his time out on the field in real action showed everything to make anyone in those 22 or so teams drool.

I would dare to say that there is some feeling in that clubhouse that Garoppolo is the future here

Garoppolo: 117.1 QBR (2nd NFL)
Brady: 125.5 QBR (1st NFL)

Jimmy G didn't have Gronk, had Fleming at RT, Karras at G and looked like an elite QB vs. the Cardinals on the road.

The Cardinals right now are ranked 2nd in defense, 2nd in QBR, and 1st in passing TDs given up. In hindsight Jimmy G's 1.5 games look like the best QB audition out there.

There honestly is a chance there are two elite QBs on our roster so what BB is saying isn't crazy.
What the Effin(SPN) is QBR?

Exactly. Perhaps you didn't notice that I was making the case that the team will more than likely trade him if they get even one first rounder. I'm just not sure if there is a team out there that will give up a first rounder and another pick for him. But, then again, you didn't specify what you think the team will want.

They'll probably be more than likely to go that route if Brady falls off a cliff. Short of that? I think it takes merely a first rounder to ship him out of New England.

Probably nothing, don't take anything he says in those press conferences too seriously.
