How can you love this draft and not like the two drafts before it? They have almost identical feels and even taking positions after runs already occurred. Hopefully we hit on all of the high picks or else we’re screwed.

What people here will miss about BB is when we have 10 years of missing on QBs not having a guy like BB to leave group think behind and trade out when his own evaluations say “sure this is the best QB in the draft class but he isn’t NFL caliber” and make the trade out. Trading out takes conviction.

I love it because they turned down all offers for the #3 pick, and I believe they got their franchise QB with that pick. Without that you are never going anywhere. I also really like the Polk pick, I think he’s a gamer, and I expect him to turn into a really good player for them. As far as the rest of the draft goes we will see how they turn out? But any draft that resolves your QB issue long term is a great draft, and I think Maye is the answer to that issue.

Unfortunately I think Belichick suffered from Hubris when it came to the QB. I think he believed he could win with any QB, and those days are over in the NFL, you aren’t going to win a Lombardi by running the ball and playing great defense.

Ok..not the show on HBO?
Same show that used to be on HBO for about thirty years.

It was a great show back in the day. Len Dawson and Nick Buoniconti hosted, then Bob Costas. They also had people on who at the time were just very recently retired, like Chris Colinsworth, Jerry Glanville, Jimmy Johnson. (I've said elsewher that analysts tend to be at their best when they were not far removed from their playing/coaching days, then over the years go downhill. Colinsworth and Johnson are two good examples that were very good in the beginning, but bad now. Troy Aikman and Dan Dierdorf are/were in the same boat.)

Anyways, IMO it was a great show back then - but not now.

Didn’t Gumbel host is as well or was he a fill in? Early 2000s I watched it. But soon after other shows I felt were better content based came around. Hey how about the best dam sports show period! Lol remember that show?

I love colinsnworth on Sunday night football would be nice to have him doing more games during the week.

Yep, Inside The NFL has sucked for what seems like decades now, ever since it allowed marble-mouthed, ex-jock, Patriot-hating playaz to infect its studio.

Haven’t watched it since then, and am not about to watch it now either.

Bill doesn't move the needle for me on that show. I won't go out of my way to watch it any more than now.

I thought it was pretty good. Good segment on Sweetness. He called Rodney the 2nd best defensive player he ever coached and continues to campaign for the HoF. Good breakdown of the Chiefs/Ravens game.

Bill constantly re-hired former coaches without giving them an official coaching title because they were still being paid by the last team they worked for. If the Patriots had given them a title, they would have been on the hook for some of their salary. It's the same reason why Bill hasn't taken another head coaching job. Why get another job if it means you lose some of your "severance pay" from your old one?

McDaniels (twice), Patricia & Judge were all owed millions of dollars after being fired while under a contract which stated that if they got another coaching job, their severance pay would be reduced. To be honest, given that it was Belichick doing it, I'm surprised the NFL hasn't instituted a rule to prevent this in the future.

Less for assistants = more for Bill.
Even if that was the case (and I'm highly skeptical of that) wouldn't it still fall on the owner for creating a situation like that instead of just paying both he and his assistants what they are worth independent of each other.

You have a point but Bill worked off a staff budget. As Curran mentioned the title of a coach is what constitutes the $$$... that In turn is why bill wasn't big on titles. For example caley refused the play calling duties in 22 becuase he wouldn't be named OC wich is about 1 million average same as DC.

I understand how the rumors would work I just don't believe it.

I get it! But I looked around the league, and for many years while we were winning most organizations had named OCs and DCs.. don't forget about the guy bill hired who took the DC job then quit on us in 2020. But I hear you!

Let's put it this way if that was the way it actually worked then Bill was paying one of the highest paid OCs in the league for years out of his own pocket? But people will only bring it up when it fits their negative agendas.

Whatever the dynamics were at the end of the day Kraft pays the EEs.

He didn't have it here in the last years. Kraft is on record. But more tot he point, Blank said Belichick told him expressly he didn't require control and that he'd be happy to work with the front office. I'm not sure what we're even debating here. This isn't a mystery at all, though some on this board want to make it so.

Belichick used his top 15 picks and got premium players. Look at the record: Seymour, Warren, Mayo, etc. He traded down out of the last quarter of the 1st round, where the values all became 2nd rounders.

For where we were picking in this last draft, we ended up with little value. At the top of every round. Something we haven't seen around here since 1993.
"For where we were picking"...our entire advantage in picking 3rd in each round was spent on Maye (and I think most of us are pretty happy with him so far). But by doing that and not trading out, it meant that we were picking behind everyone else after that in trying to land a WR & LT at 35 and 68. This was evident as we tried to chase Buffalo and KC at the end of rounds 1 and 2 and couldn't make a deal to move up. If we'd had an extra 3rd rounder to spend on a move-up, it would have made a huge difference, but we didn't.

Agreed. As we all know all HCS have a staff budget and it's set by the owners.
