BB watch

If BB wants to just be a DC only again- I really think he’s still the best in the league right now even at his age. I can’t think of anyone equal. Maybe Spag is close?
That will never happen. Once you’re a HC for as long as Bill has been and what he’s accomplished, you can’t go back to DC.

The other question is will BB agree to coach under a new GM and will that GM want Bill as his coach. I’m not sure about either.
I think Belichick might agree to a GM that would have final say over the roster, but would not have final say over the coaching staff.

In any case, the most important thing is shifting the philosophy regarding offense, even if they don't clean house on the coaching staff/front office.

Belichick isn’t giving up control. It would be stupid to have the best who has ever done the job have to coach a team someone else is picking players for.

What is going to happen is they are going to expand his staff and build out a succession plan with those who will be taking over responsibilities having increasing roles, but one man must be in control.

So much speculation has turned into "fact." We have no idea of what's going on behind the scenes. It could be anything from "THe Pats made a deal with the Chargers for a trade of Bill" to "Let them all speculate and put it on Bill and maybe that takes some of the pressure off the team."
If he wants to be back, he's back. Kraft didn't make a speech about loyalty before the Army-Navy game to fire someone who will be spoken of int he same sentence as Lombardi and Halas and Shula (barf).

I would trade Belichick to the Chargers, just as long as we get Herbert in return.

You can't trade players for coaches. It's picks and money for coaches only.

If Bill moves on he will likely win a SB with his new team before we get to another one with a new HC.

Thats because the Pats will be left with the awful roster from BB the GM, and he will inherit a roster without guys named Stange, Mapu, Sow or another dozen names nobody has ever heard of.

I didn’t realize that. I didn’t think it was reasonable anyways, but if you are valuing Belichick accurately asking for their best player makes sense to me. .

If you’re allowed to trade draft picks where you can only use to acquire players (there’s no coach draft), you should be allowed to trade players for coaches.

If Kraft wants it, Bill will do what he did last year and bring back a familiar face. I think he brings back Pioli, Dimetroff or Jon Robinson.

I listened to Pioli on Curran's podcast. He doesn't sound like a healthy man.

Last night affirmed my feelings about Bill Belichick

That his teams play hard, even in the midst of an 11 loss season

Mistake letting him go

Get him help in the personnel department, but keep him here.
DITTO

The give and take is understandable. Guy can still coach his ass off on defense. Nobody better and that’s not even negotiable. No Judon, no Gonzales.

Sad to say it but had the Patriots went with Zapped they might be at or close to 500. Supported Mac as much as could but its obvious the player was a detriment. It’s not for a lack of trying, he’s just missing a few parts of his game that he just can’t seem to capture. I believe in the 3 year rule for just about every player and Mac was no different.

Not sure where they are going from here but it will be a interesting for sure. Has a good track record minus Mac picking in the top 15. I don’t think he’ll blow it. It’s 2-7 that make you scratch your head sometimes. If they can’t get in position to draft the big two and wants no part of Daniels, i think he can’t go wrong with one of the top LT’s or Wrs. Alt, Fashanu, Harrison and Nabers are home runs. The free agent class seems a little rough this upcoming year.

I want him back, seeing him break the record or getting this team back to the big time would be rewarding as a fan. I don’t think there is a better coach out there to be had and don’t think I want to see a bad transition which in a lot of cases, does happen. Just like when your searching for the franchise qb which can be very hard to find.

I think Bill likes rings more than watches

What this comes down to is the letter that Kraft has to send to his STHolders.
If BB finishes strong. Even if it is a tight loss to the Bills and a win against the Jets.
It shows that the players are not quitting on BB.

Last Year right after the season ended Kraft send myself and all other STHolders a questionnaire on what we liked and did not like about the team that year.

Whatever the data showed he reassured the base of their concerns

It’s a business, He fears losing the fan base with a sub product. One that we had before this great run.

I will be open minded. If he says we will be hiring an intriguing HC/GM combo. Then I could be on board. It would have to Wow me to move on. I have seen the days of bad coaching and team management.
There are probably only a handful of teams in the league right now that have solid Coaching or a good qGM

I don’t want to move on to go into a new regime blind. If he has an ace up his sleeve then show it. Otherwise keep BB.
I would love for there to be a mutual understanding that Player Personnel moves are to be shared with someone both BB and Kraft agree upon. Would be better for BB and the team. BB can pass Shula a lot faster and Kraft can feel better how his money is being spent. They can fluff it up to not minimize BB however they would like

Merry Christmas

It's tough. This was a "barely scrape it out" win against a very inept team. It's not like the Pats are turning a corner.
My fear is with a few late wins, all the emotion will cause Kraft to keep BB and hope for another resurgence.

But, if we're going to face a total reboot in a year or two when BB does finally go, why not now? With a top 5 draft pick, and a lot of chaff to burn away - lets start fresh. Especially with a new QB. It would suck to get a new 1st round QB for 1 or 2 years of a BB-system, then fall into the same Mac-stakes of instability and turnover that leave us wallowing in mediocrity any longer.
Because we may not face a total reboot in a couple of years when Bill retires.

if Bill stays and fields a playoff team before retiring in a couple of years there’s no total reboot. There’s a winning team in place, with a perfect HC opportunity for Mayo or whoever steps in.

question should be, will keeping Bill lead to a playoff team within two to three years? If it does there’s no total reboot.

Merry Christmas to you too!

so what would be an intriguing HC/GM combo? Who would it take to Wow you?

and you say that there are only a handful of teams in the league right now with solid coaching or a good GM, one or the other, so how about both? Given that, how likely is it that Kraft will come up with a combo of both?

That's no guaranty. I mean, Pete Carroll took a Super Bowl team and didn't do anything with it. (He did have a winning record, though).
