Bringing political figures into a thread makes the statements political ... it's not that difficult.
The thread is about Brown ... let it stay there.

In criminal case, polygraphs are tools used to obtain confessions. For example, the device itself inspires fear so an examiner may ask a series of background questions before the test commences in order to establish a baseline that are tantamount to criminal confessions. Also, the "deception indicated" information results in follow on questions that again result in confessions from those who don't understand they can tell the examiner to get lost as the device is reading wrong.

In administrative/civil procedures, polygraphs can be used to initiate adverse actions. Polygraph results are 60% to 80% accurate, so are of some value. Law enforcement agencies also tend to argue the results are more accurate than the opponents claim they are.

The polygraph results may be admissible in some jurisdictions under certain circumstances.

A question for @MassPats38 — what is the line between demanding a settlement and extortion. Because really “pay me $X or I will sue you” doesn’t sound all that different to me from asking for money to settle a disagreement before taking it to court.

What is the risk? Have you ever followed this team? They will just not answer the questions. What do you think exactly will happen? They won’t be able to focus on football because they have to say I won’t answer that question? Exactly who do you expect to ask them that question every day until they just can’t stand it?
Should they have cut Edelman because he used PEDs ( he was guilty) and all the questions would be a distraction? Should the cut Chung? He has been arraigned.

When do you expect that this money grab will actually go to trial, and how long it will take before he is “found guilty” for something he has not been proven guilty of?

There are a lot of soldiers out there thankful
You were never in their foxhole.
Oh my god people might ask questions. Whatever will we do? We can’t play football if people ask questions.
Get some sleep mrs clever. The patriots are just fine.

    I honestly don’t think so.

Because why trade Thomas today if you knew this shoe was about to drop?

I cant believe that anyone with half a brain thinks that it is normal for someone who is sexually assaulted/raped whatever, to continue to go back to the house of the person who supposedly assaulted/raped them.

Schefter on sports center said Goodell could put Brown on the commissioner exempt list, which means he would sit out with pay while the investigation takes place.

Similar to the Adrian Peterson situation when he was being investigated for child abuse.

I agree with some of your points but the notion that money is not ever a reasonable means to seek justice in some cases of sexual assault, or criminal wrongdoing generally, is untrue in my opinion.

All of the following I’m about to say assumes that the person in question is actually a victim:

Money can help one relocate, get medical/psychological treatment, and allow one to generally pick themselves back up after being the victim of a crime. We all know how stressful not having money is, it’s cripplingly stressful to have to worry about rent, bills, etc. Removing the money stressor from the equation of someone trying to recover from trauma can only helps

It may be cynical but the fact is that money, at a practical/realistic level, is essential to functioning in society at a minimum/basic level, and I think we owe legitimate victims of trauma (sexual assault otherwise) at least that much.

Now we get to the crux of the problem. There was a time when journalism required facts, fairness, and real sources. But who am I kidding. The Hearst papers of the turn of the 2oth century led us into a war with little or none of those 3 things, so this isn't really new, is it. We are just better at decimating the story these days.

Unfortunately it's easy to bash the news media, but without it there would be NO one hold our national, state and local governments and businesses to task. So there is good and bad in every area of a democratic state. That's one of the reasons fascism in growing. People are getting tired of having to have figure it out for themselves and just want someone to tell them what is and isn't.

But I forget, you're in Australia. Tell me there is hope down there? And sorry about droning on. Stepping off the soap box now, and falling back into the morass that is the current AB mess.
