Announced Patriots cuts: countdown to 53

Re: Announced cuts: countdown to 53

No. I said that saying corners played terrible in a half where the other team completed 2 passes is ridiculous.
That is not 'defending Butlers play'. It is saying that you are a fool.

It was Butler's stellar play that evening that caused their QB to throw far wide or too short even though their WR was open. You wouldn't be able to properly diagnose a play or make a rational fair assessment unless it fits your argument. That's your shtick. That's why you're a joke and I can't take you seriously.

Tate was supposedly the Moss replacement as a deep threat.. He had a few very good deep catches, but, that is offset by many other plays which he could not get open..

Price has the height and the hands to be a good 2nd WR. He just needs more time on the field. 1st year he was out. I hope he gets more snaps...

Ocho is yet to be seen... IMO

I also hope they leave 1 or 2 openings for pickups/trade..

WRONG. Tate was NOT supposed to be a MOSS replacement. Tate never had the speed. Tate is only a 4.5 runner. Not a 4.3 runner like moss. Would be nice if people would get that through their heads.

The TE situation has me going from confused to thinking I understand to even more confused.

After the draft I thought they were going to hold on to Crumpler because of his veteran presence and leadership abilities and have Gronk, Hernandez and Smith/Yeatman with either of the last two going to the PS. This would allow 2 TE play-calling with a lot of versatility. One play you could run and have 2 extra blockers and the next a play-action and have the TE as receiver threats.

Then they cut Crumpler and I thought they must been high on both the rookie TEs.

And now they cut both of the rookies, which leaves like 2 viable TEs, one of which is basically a WR anyway. And what is going to happen if one of them gets hurt? It's not out of the realm of possibilities, Gronks back issue could resurface or Hernandez hip might act up. And if one of them is lost for maybe 3 games you only have 1 TE on gameday.

I think they need to pick up a veteran TE, so seeing Crumpler back wouldn't surprise me much. but that leaves the question, why was he cut in the first place?

Re: Yeatman cut

Wow, so the offense that ran more two tight end sets than any other in the league is down to just two tight ends. I am shocked.

DaBruinz, u are going on picks when they won the superbowl.I am talking about recent drafts here man. They have doned a good job but have doned a bad job more often.

So I've lost track now.... Austin, Tarpinian, Ihedigbo.... Who are the other surprises still left?

Brace to PUP, and Butler, Tate, and Meriweather likely to be released....

Let's at the very least agree that the Pats are BELOW AVERAGE when it comes to the draft.

Clearly you are a troll who does not know wtf he's talking about. To the ignore list with you.

I agree.

My biggest concern is having the offense rely too much on TB. Personally, I liked the two-TE set with Gronk and Crump and the unpredictibility the offense had with that set. W/O that other big body and Hernandez not exactly the same size or as good at the PoA as Gronk, that lessens the effectiveness of the running game.

Bring back the Crump!!

"doned a bad job more often"??

Chris Johnson is that you?

Re: Yeatman cut

Alge Crumpler or Davon Drew

Actually Nikolai, they are pretty accurate! The draft picks have been terrible. Its not just the 2007 draft.

Why don't you go read the article plk (re-)posted before you make statements like that?

Cold, Hard Football Facts.com: Insider

Here, I'll excerpt it for you:

Using information from the great folks at pro-football-reference.com – or, as we like to call it, "The Bible" – we broke down the 10 drafts from 2001-2010 looking for an impartial answer to who was the best. Who drafted the most stars, the most longtime starters, the most promising young players? Who had the most players from their drafts active in the league last year? Who was the best?

When it was all said and done, there was an easy and not-so-surprising answer: the New England Patriots.

They had the second-most Pro Bowlers, 11, trailing only San Diego (12). They had the most players with a career "Approximate Value" of 50+ as determined by Pro Football Reference's formula that takes into account position, playing time, team success and production (read more about it here). They had the second-most players with career AV of 20 or better. They were tied for third in terms of draftees still active in the league in 2010.

And they did it despite having the best record in the league over that decade, which means having the least amount of actual draft power. It's pretty remarkable feat, and the reason that guys like Mel Kiper and Peter King couched their criticisms of the Patriots' 2011 draft by adding "but it's the Patriots, so it'll probably work out OK."

(Thanks, plk, for finding that article. I well recall it and was about to go try and find it again)

Re: Announced cuts: countdown to 53

No, common sense would be if you actually watched the game, and based your evaluation on that, like everyone else did. Completing 2 out of 15 passes (not going to bother looking up the actual number of attempts) could mean that the coverage was awesome, and it could also mean the QB completely sucked. In this case, it was the latter.
I did, but I was commenting before I had.
It is a very reasonable statement to sat that I havent seen the game yet but I find it hard to believe the corners played terrible in the second half when the other team completed 2 passes, but I should stop speaking until after I watch it.
Please explain how that is 'basing my evaluation' on not watching the game?
Its like saying the Jets lost 73-0 and someone saying the defense played well.
If I were to say I find it hard to believe the defense played well in a 73-0 loss but I'll get back to you after I watch it. How do you find fault with that?

BTW, when I did watch the game there was nothing wrong with the pass defense in the second half.

To free up a roster spot. Since he is long in the tooth, chances are likely that no other team will be in a hurry to snap him up and he'll be available when the regular season starts, should we need to fall back on him.

He also hadn't healed from shoulder surgery yet, so this would be a good time to have him do that without taking up valuable roster space.

Austin is cut. I thnk the other 2 are still alive.

EDIT: IT WAS POSTED THAT AUSTIN WAS CUT. THAT HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED.

Ventrone seems to be on the roster right now, too, right?

It's funny that the same arguments aren't made about Arrington. When he gives up plays, you don't say a thing, and when the QB throws bad passes his way or the WR drops them, nothing.

Re: Yeatman cut

There were rumors that Crumpler was going to re-sign once the season began.

That rumor has more legs now.

Am I the only one more surprised by Yeatman than Meriweather?

No. I haven't been impressed with Yeatman. Look at him during the Detroit game. He was pushed around as much or more as Ohrnberger was... I didn't think he did a good job blocking in either of the other two games as well. But I have been one of the few doubters of his ability..
