Nate Burleson to the Lions. Congratulations Nate, you just won an all-expenses-paid trip to last place.

But he won't have to worry bout feeding his family!!

he was one of the few guys on my wish list.... oh will there is still some good football players out there.

There's some sort of bizarre hope in me that will see some of the utterly pathetic franchise teams build up decent rosters and compete with the better teams in the league.

I really don't like seeing 2-14 or 3-13 teams unless it's the Jets or Colts.

You have some sort of trait that I seem to lack. I think it's called "empathy". I like to see teams (well, one team) 14-2 or better and everyone else win 4 wins or less.

And the bar is set:

Lions agreed to terms with WR Nate Burleson on a five-year, $25 million contract, including $11 million guaranteed.

That's a lot of dough for a guy who is a No. 2 or No. 3. Now, we know what it will cost to get Kevin Walter.

I think it's born from the fact that I prefer to crush worthy adversaries rather than roll up and be forced to share the field with basket cases.

There's always an ulterior motive Patjew....

not good news 5 million a year for a #3 WR looks like there will not be to many WR's signed by the pats at lest not big name ones

Torry Holt, Laveranues Coles, Mike Furrey, a few guys that could be signed for under 4 million a year.

That offense could be pretty good next year so long as Stafford and Smith are healthy.

Johnson has to be doubled, and Pettigrew's a good threat.

That Branch contract ain't lookin' too bad.

The Lions are being very Active in Free Agency. They are after Kyle Vanden Bosch and they supposedly are on the radar for signing several other players.

Don't be surprised if they finish with 6 or 7 wins this year.

I agree with your post. Building through the Draft is great when you have a base of talent that allows a educational and adjustment period for kids with pointed or spot duty to ween them, but you have to bring in enough talent to establish credibility within. I think Vandenbosch and Burleson are two signings that will help them.

Plus Stafford looked pretty solid last year considering he started behind quite possibly the worst team ever assembled. He had similar stats to Sanchez, who played behind the number one defense and rushing offense. I think the Lions finally got it right this time. Wouldn't be surprised to see them start winning some games. And.. Megatron. Can't forget him.
