Amendola's Neighbors Are Mad at Him

at least our congressional senators made every single vote in the Senate this year...and it's not corruption if you don't get caught...or at least if you do a judge will throw it out anyway..

The way Mass and R.I. vote, we'd be better off if their various representatives missed every vote. Maybe we could put someone in charge of using shiny things to distract them when it's time.

brutally honest I see...heh...LMAO...look, watch THIS clip. I played B ball with Ray Rickman when he was a poor kid from Camp St. about a mile away from Benefit St...THIS crystallizes the insular nature of East Siders...Ray has major juice in Providence. If he wants that carport gone..it is gone baby gone. If I showed this clip to him when we were kids he'd have thought it was some whole other person...life and irony..

Danny Amendola's carport irks residents of historic neighborhood

“It’s a simple utilitarian structure, but if you had tons of these around the neighborhood, it would significantly detract from the historic quality and aesthetic appearance of the neighborhood,” said Tim More, who has lived on the street for 45 years.

Several Patriots players live in Providence, which is closer to Gillette Stadium than Boston is. As far as the neighbors know, Amendola is the only Patriot in memory to live on College Hill. Houses sit tightly together here, sometimes just inches from each other. The neighborhood once attracted professors at Brown University or Rhode Island School of Design and has evolved into a real estate hotbed with multimillion-dollar properties.

It also can be tough to get out of the driveway. Ray Rickman, who has lived up the hill from Amendola’s house for 31 years, says he was unable to get his car out three times last winter.

But he wondered why Amendola couldn’t just do what he does: buy a $40 canvas to put over his car and rely on a neighbor with snow-removal equipment to dig him out. Or better yet, hire a snow-removal service. Amendola signed a $28.5 million, five-year contract with the Patriots in 2013.

Annoying his neighbors might be a better option than being late to practice.

Rickman, a former member of the city’s Historic District Commission, says it’s important for area residents to see themselves as stewards of properties that will be there for generations.

“Wealthy people like to buy things and have their way,” Rickman said. “Historic districts are fragile.”

yeah...LMAO!!!!

He should get his ass kicked for saying something as stupid as that.

I once rented a house in a community in Scottsdale AZ. I was not used to living in a desert community so you could imagine my surprise when I came home one night to find an angry note on my door demanding that I maintain the rocks in my yard. hahaha A few days later the community manager stopped by and told me I needed to rake my rocks so that they maintain a manicured appearance. Then added I needed to trim the branches on the 20' tree so that it looked "kept". hahahahaa

Example pic below: Not the house I rented.

That hits the nail on the head. This conversation has been very enlightening and has granted me multiple, profound realizations. I always thought that greed was the root of most of our society's (and individual's) problems, but it's more complicated than that. Entitlement, of which greed is merely a component, and the extreme blindness that accompanies it is the real real elephant in the room. Although the effects are largely the same, knowledge of the more sophisticated nature of the root cause enables a more focused and precise methodology for treatment.

This realization has completely transformed my view of self and my own development. I had always perceived my "modest" upbringing as an obstacle that I overcame to become "successful". The revelation of the extreme blindness spawned by entitlement has transformed my perceived "obstacle" into my own salvation. I'm not sure if I ever would have overcome the extreme flaws of my socialization had I been filled with more than a modest sense of entitlement. These people *****ing about Amendola's car port aren't necessarily stupid, they're just blind.

There were more revelations, but they aren't related to the mechanics of Dola's situation so were omitted so as not to derail the topic again. Here is an interesting video that should add some insight into the nature of why wealthy people tend to become such tightwads.

How come we aren't hearing anything about the port-a-potty in the driveway next door?

Hey, buddy..... if my neighbor and I made a deal not to paint our houses yellow polka dots, and you live 1,000 miles away, then who do you think you are to infringe on our right to make a lawful quid pro quo contract that doesn't impact you in the slightest?

I'm done derailing the thread with human rights. Try watching the video.

In other words, you have no answer to my question beyond the idiotic notion that painting one's house yellow polka dots is a fundamental human right.

If this country had fewer people like you butting into other peoples' business that doesn't concern you in the slightest, then it would be a far better place.

You are wasting your energy. He will never answer your question nor mine. He prattles on about "property rights", "entitlement", "the rich are greedy", etc., but never answers our direct questions. He ignores them because "we can't learn the truth of what he spouts". Well, I grew up in real poverty and everything I have is not due to any "entitlement". It is my hard work that got me to where I am in life. And I, like you, respect the validity of contracts, agreements, and agreed to limitations on basic rights. It is part and parcel of living in a civilized society. A wild lion has absolute, unrestricted, civil rights. Social animals do not.

The problem probably lies in your conflicting interpretations of said basic rights and general contractual inapplicability. For example, since you are respectful of those things you mentioned, you must be fine with homeowners contracting for, say a "no blacks/irish/spanish" neighborhood, right?

<just finished reading the last 6 pages of this thread>

Well, there's 15 minutes of my life I won't get back.

Ok - I've had it.

PatsDeb... I should have listened to you two pages ago!!!

No,of course not, because those are against the law. There is a saying that goes something like "My rights end where yours begin and vice versa". So, for example, while free speech is a right, libel is not. Likewise there is a right of assembly - but not on my property without my permission. Voluntarily becoming a member of a community that says one must maintain his home and property's appearance, for example, is a contractual agreement that does not violate any laws.

So, that is the reason why your hyperbole is ridiculous.

Now, suppose, that you buy a home in a community with an HOA. You put up a statue on your front lawn because there is no rule against it. Now suppose that later on the HOA makes such a rule. You then have the right to have your statue grandfathered in -- but you would be prohibited from any additional ones. That is what rights and limitation thereof mean.

My hyperbole is nothing of the sort, and is something that was actually dealt with in this country, and being against the law is irrelevant to the point of the post. You're just using the law comment for cover. As for the "rights end" argument,it's nonsensical in this context, because it's merely perspective based, which was my point. The "no blacks/etc..." contract features rights of blacks/etc.... versus the right of contract. Your political pre-dispositions will determine how you come down on the clash, not whether one is legal or not.

Thank you for making my point.

Exactly. He just wants to control other peoples' behavior and force them to adopt his world view.

Nobody forces him to live in a neighborhood community. However, it is sickening that he thinks he should have the right to forbid others from willingly doing so themselves when it is none of his damn business what lawful agreements I enter into with my neighbors.

I tried to post a reply to Deus, but for some reason my access to this site was blocked. There was nothing in my reply that should have been blocked. Is there a method for someone to block replies to their post?

Might have been a glitch. The same thing happened to me once, a couple of weeks back.

The irony is that you're doing the exact same thing you're accusing someone else of. You're just doing it from a different starting point.
