Two different sets of values.
One set:
One set:
- players should put winning above all else
- players should be happy to take a reasonable salary to play with teammates they like and inside a winning organization
- players who put money before winning have character flaws
- players' timelines and priorities should serve fans' needs
- a player who chooses a rival team over a 5% contract difference is demonstrating a lack of loyalty
- players should put the financial well being of themselves, their immediate family, their extended families, and their charitable interests above all else
- players should put financial considerations above a few years of personal working conditions (who their employer is).
- players should operate on their own timeline and in service to their own needs and emotions.
- The NFL is simply a collection of potential employers, and who a player chooses is a complex and personal formula that will never be truly transparent to fans
- Loyalty to a team is a luxury which is fleeting and a rare experience for an NFL player, given all of the other factors that go into employment decisions.
