Two different sets of values.

One set:
  • players should put winning above all else
  • players should be happy to take a reasonable salary to play with teammates they like and inside a winning organization
  • players who put money before winning have character flaws
  • players' timelines and priorities should serve fans' needs
  • a player who chooses a rival team over a 5% contract difference is demonstrating a lack of loyalty
Another set:
  • players should put the financial well being of themselves, their immediate family, their extended families, and their charitable interests above all else
  • players should put financial considerations above a few years of personal working conditions (who their employer is).
  • players should operate on their own timeline and in service to their own needs and emotions.
  • The NFL is simply a collection of potential employers, and who a player chooses is a complex and personal formula that will never be truly transparent to fans
  • Loyalty to a team is a luxury which is fleeting and a rare experience for an NFL player, given all of the other factors that go into employment decisions.

IF he signs with the Jets I want to see none of the White Knights on this forum disliking or disagreeing with anyone who says anything negative. He will deserve any such barbs being tossed his way. Near any other team would be palatable, but this would be the most d*ckish move he could have done. Fact that he is even visiting is the dumbest thing he could do. Embrassing quite honestly.

If the Jets offer like $3M more per year than anyone else, I really can't blame him. Generally I'm fine with players leaving as long as they don't go to one of our biggest rivals, but if said biggest rival is offering you crazy money I really can't fault that./

It's a misreport he was just dropping his trash off at a dump and it was translated he was visiting the jets, innocent mistake...

The fact that he's even entertaining the Jests is sure to leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I kinda felt the same about Edelman visiting the Gnats, but I got over it after he signed with us.

I could care less at this point, let him go become insignificant in that rat hole. Could care less if he leaves at this point.

What're you upset about bud. Dude did his contract and made no complaints. (Unlike butler) Made 2 plays that could be argued won us 2 superbowls and HASN'T left yet.

You upset because he's giving it time. Come on

All the while ignoring the large number of players from hated rivals we've signed over the years. I guess that doesn't work both ways though.

I'm ok with that and I agree with you...But the Rats are a different animal

The Pats gave HT a chance to go gage his value across the league, and apparently, it wasn't what he thought it was.

He can go sign with someone like the Rats for spite, and destroy the remainder of his career, or he can come back and sign with the Pats at what is apparently, a fair offer.

How long does it take for HT to swallow his pride and admit he misjudged his value?

Getting upset cause secretly deep down I want him back lol. Feels dirty him visiting with those rats.

Unless they give him the richest contract in the history of the position than I doubt he goes there. He'll he back

So how much would HT need to sign for to give the Pats a 3rd round comp pick?

Hope you're right

It would be balanced out by Gilmore deal and would open up the Ryan signing which is currently balanced by Gilmore. I think Ryan would be a #4 at $10M per year.

Fcuk that. He should go where he gets the best deal. He doesn't owe anything to anyone other than himself. And he especially doesn't owe anything to the owners or to whiny fans who would go screaming to their mommies after one day of what a pro player goes through.

If I went through one day of what a pro player goes through I'd realize I want to have a good balance between financial compensation and winning. Not just one, or the other. See, this is what BB and his gang think like as well. The reason they win so much.

Thankfully, you aren't in charge. You and your white knight brethren should be agents because most agents don't look out for the well being of their client. Most teams don't either, but in NE's case, they do say take a bit less, or even fair market value (DMac) and what you left on the table will be offset by playing on the sports' greatest stages.
