All aboard the Elandon Roberts train I guess

This Guy:
Kyle Van Noy:

STRENGTHS: Quick, instinctive linebacker with excellent reaction skills. Athletic enough in coverage, showing balance and change of direction. Locates the ball quickly and provides good effort in pursuit. Impressed at the Senior Bowl with his fluidity and instincts in coverage by closing quickly to bat away multiple passes during practices.
Shows excellent play recognition, taking on blockers with the correct shoulder (allowing him to slide off would-be blockers and into ballcarriers easily) and is equally effective slipping into coverage or sliding past offensive linemen on his way toward a tackle behind the line of scrimmage.
Surprised many coaches and teammates by returning for senior season, then battled through late-season injury to stay on the field and serve as the defense's leader.
WEAKNESSES: Not an elite athlete overall. A bit slow to 'shoot his gun' when ballcarriers are running at him and relies too much on a simple bull-rush when coming off the edge. Wasn't as disruptive as a senior, in part due to opponents game-planning to avoid him. However, he was also without 2013 first-round pick DL Ziggy Ansah occupying blockers in front of him.
Relies on instincts and efficiency, rather than physicality. Beats blockers to the action, rather than taking them on shedding violently and isn't an explosive tackler. Projects best as a traditional outside linebacker in the 4-3 alignment because of this lack of take-on mentality, though he has shown the ability to get to the quarterback.
Compares To: Chad Greenway, Vikings - Greenway might just be the best all-around outside linebacker in the NFL, and comparing any rookie to him is therefore hyperbole. Van Noy plays with similar instincts and efficiency, however, making plays behind the line of scrimmage as well as dropping back into coverage with impressive consistency. He isn't flashy or physically dominant, but ranks among the safer prospects in the 2014 draft.

Roberts' game closely resembles Bruchi's game when he was starting out.

Nobody wants to talk about Elandon Roberts in Elandon Roberts threads.

I quite like this Roberts kid and, if given a chance, think he can thrive here. He now has that chance.

Nope.

I opened up the "OT: Official Trade Deadline Thread" and 10 minutes later Collins was traded.

That thread is 3 pages back now gathering dust.

Roberts biggest weakness coming out was his coverage skills. Bad c.o.d. and not enough make up speed when he gets beat.

Hes best closer to the los and really has a "nose" for the ball. Whether it's shedding, knifinng or just avoiding blocks to get to the ball. Smart. Tough. Leader. Worker.

He could be a very good player and do some nice things. Definitely someone I'd trust on a blitz even with his smaller size. Great instincts and again tough kid.

I could see him covering a short/small area eventually, but def not a man guy.
No make up speed yet he's faster than Collins. These two don't seem to reconcile.

I can see why this board has the rep it has.

Hilarious considering I'm probably one of 6 people who actually watched him in college and wasn't googling him. But I'm sure people who watched him for a game and half know better

Roberts is a nice player and could become a very good one. I could care less what some 40 time says, he's not faster than Jamie. Not even in the same planet athletically and talent wise.

Roberts is much more of an in the box backer that is better closer to the ball. Great instincts and toughness. Despite his size he gets to ball whether it's knifinng, shedding or just avoiding the block all together.
His eyes are always on the QB and is always efficient going to the ball.

Coverage was biggest flaw by far. Not good in cod. Again eventually he might be able to come cover a flat or small area but not a man guy anytime soon. You want him closer to the los.

One could argue the same with Collins as I preferred him closer to the ball. Collins recognition and instincts left a lot to be desired imo. The guy couldn't handle a power back on a wheel route and looked like garbage against AARP Owen Daniels for god's sake.

Collins is pretty much the same guy who broke out against the colts. Not paying 100 million for that.

How tall was Bruschi?

"Don't give me a linebacker who can't dunk. What am I going to do with him?"
- Bill Belichick

Wait no that's not it...
