Pre-season games are the time to evaluate individual players. 6 players helped themselves a lot.

    BENTLEY
He did all we needed him to do. IMHO, he played himself onto the 53 man roster.

    ROWE
    He's continuing to do fine.

    HILL
Hill is winning the battle with Gillislie. He looked really good.

    PATTERSON
He continues to make great catches. He is an experienced receiver, and one of the very best kick returners in the NFL. He is at worst our #5 WR.

    WISE
Wise should be getting lots and lots of reps this season.

    WEBB
OK, Webb probably has little chance to make the 53. HOWEVER, he did look really good, and secured himself a PS position.
    ==================
    OTHER COMMENTS
    1) ROBERTS made some good plays. I could see us keeping him as a run specialist.
    2) RIVERS looked pretty good.
    3) There seemed to be lots of problems among the defensive backs. Obviously, we don't know the assignments. There will be a lot to watch in the next couple of games. Gilmore, Rowe and Dawson seem to be our top 3. After that, several players have a chance.
    4) We still need a #4 safety.
    5) Dorsett looked awful.
    6) Lucien should be our binkie WR for rush pre-season.

So he got two targets. One was a hospital ball by Hoyer and the other a deep sideline throw that would have been incomplete no matter what.

Guess Hogan and Edelman were inexcusable then because they were even worse.

    points well taken

As the announcers pointed out, Edelman is nowhere near ready, but he obviously has time.

I’ll reserve judgment on dorsett until brady gets out there. Hoyer was awful

The interesting part about the Pats-Skins preseason game is that the Patriots came back in the second half by.... running the football. If that isn't an unusual development I don't know what is. If the Pats run game can be a catalyst instead of something we abandon when we fall behind in the score, that's only a good thing. Nearly 150 yards on the ground as an offense is a good sign!

Hill is a great winner to me. Powerful running style and blocking ability makes him better option than Gillislee. Rivers and generally pass rushing looked promising. It is not about sacks but constant pressure causing Redskins' O-line problems.

It was the first exhibition game. If that's all it took for Bentley to play his way onto the roster, BB has completely lost it.

Hill looked like the guy who ran for 1000 yards his rookie year.

Mostly, I agree. I've been a Demarius Travis supporter but he looked like Jordan Richards the other night. Didn't see enough of Eddie Pleasant.
Not certain I agree with the Dorsett assessment. He was sandwiched by 3 defenders on the ball down the middle. I'll wait until Brady is throwing to him in a game to give up on him.
I like Izzo to remain on the PS. Caught the ball, sealed the edge.
    Not a McCarron fan.

Agree, loved the commitment to the run. Hope the success was not a measure of the ineptitude of the opponent.

Agree on Dorsett, Hogan ugh, Edelman can't catch a ball if he isn't thrown to.

Curious as to what anyone thought of Etling. I thought he had a strong arm and quick release. Kind of a scatter gun arm. Can a QB develop accuracy? If he could do that and develop an ability to see the field then he might have some potential. Probably a PS candidate or a cut if someone becomes available that they like better. I was hoping for a shot at Teddy Bridgewater or Nathan Peterman but that doesn't look likely now. Don't know who else has potential that might be available. Have any targets?

Its possible that we are seeing the Patriots post Brady. Different offense as the running game is emphasized.

I think it’s to soon for that. 2nd half was just concentrated efforts to look at blocking skills for o l and reads by the rbs. A lot of film for the coaches to study.

There wasn't anything particularly "fancy" about the Pats run effort, either. Basic football. Even the Skins' scrubs should have been able to do more to stop a basic run game than they did, IMHO. Bodes well for the Pats, I think.

There will be a sweepstakes with some backup QBs at the end of August and others might become available in the offseason. I'd keep my eyes on all of that. Now if Bridgewater was not on a AFCE rival team this could have been much more interesting.

I assume we will keep Etling on the PS through the season and then next year he will have to show a jump/growth big enough to compete for the QB2 spot.

If anything it just shows that for once even our backup OL played a lot better than in previous years. Everyone is scared of Scar.

I'm focused on the front seven in pre-season, and I liked what Bentley, Roberts, Rivers and Grissom brought to the table on Thursday. Speed and depth are critical this year. The DT position looks solid to me assuming Malcolm Brown can get and stay on the field.

DE/linebacker is the greatest concern. Hightower is essential to the defense. Clayborn should be solid and Flowers needs to take the next step. The Patriots need the situational guys to execute Flores pressure packages, and the talent seems to be there judging from Thursday night and what I saw at camp.

The offense is stacked with talent. I hope Trent Brown can be consistent at LT. Dante is in his ear, so I feel like that will work out.

The most glaring weakness on offense is a good backup at QB. Hoyer isn't enough.

I don't want to see Roberts or Richards in a Pat uniform any more...we've all seen what they can bring and it's not much. Our defense will be much improved with these two off the team.

Roberts actually looked pretty good as a two-down player with the #1s on defense Thursday night. I'm not all that surprised.

Last season, the lack of health LB bodies forced him to play a "do everything" role for which he certainly isn't suited, and I wasn't egregiously disappointed in him for failing to cover it satisfactorily, especially given his paltry amount of previous NFL experience (272 snaps in a limited 2-down role in 2016 - his rookie season).

I think Roberts suffers in the perceptions of fans mostly for failing to meet unreasonably high expectations.
