Prunty of course was this year's WTF? draft pick. Last year it was Woodson. Maybe the front office really does know what the hell they are doing.

Perhaps 1 or 2 among Brown, Doubs, Boutte, and Hollins needs to regularly get more slot routes and allow us to move on from Chism for sure, and maybe Pop Douglas as well.

Except that neither AJB, Doubs, Booty or Hollins is a Weis/McD Slot Receiver. Besides Douglas & Chism, Kyle Williams comes closest to fitting that mold,, but I don't think he has it in him to produce at that position here.

From what I heard from Bedard;

Campbell and Wilson look noticeably stronger. Have played better overall.

AVT has been meh but he is giving him the benefit of the doubt due to him missing time.

Lomu looks really bad and getting beat by practice squad guys.

Isn’t that worried about the OL overall as long as they stay healthy. Backups are pretty bad.

Doubs has been a disappointment.

Boutte continues to shine, yet thinks the Pats will trade him to do him a solid. Makes absolutely no sense if Doubs is struggling.

“Slot guy” in the sense I think you are referring to it is only a minimal role in some 3rd downs. All 3 of Brown, Boutte and Doubs can align in the slot and run their route tree from it.

Some of it perhaps; but certainly not all of it.

We seem to think a WR3 needs to be in the Welker mode but very few teams use them that way

McD will work with what he has, or bang the drum for what he needs. I’m sure he’s also going to play to his QB’s strengths which is pushing the ball down the field and playmaking. As of now, Drake has not displayed anything like a TB ability to diagnose a D and shred them with short, precision passing. If we had prime Welker on this team, I guarantee he’s not catching a 100 balls, and maybe not 50. It’s not Maye’s strength. Maybe he’ll develop it and add it to his game later but there’s no reason at this time to force a square peg into a round hole.

Then why bother, especially when there are bigger fish to fry at TE2, RB3, Slot WR, Center2, NT, Edge, LB, Outside CB3, Slot CB2, and Both backup Safety positions?

He can choose to be a pain and be inactive. Maybe the team might trade him before the trade deadline. He won't get his big contract next year that way.

However, I see NO evidence of this negative attitude since camp started.

He's trying to showcasee hinself. But asking for a trade before TC started isn't a great sign. And if he did take the 'be a pain and be inactive' route, then they're wasting a roster spot on him.

That's a one day snapshot from him, not what he''s been saying in each case all camp.

None of the positions you mentioned will be filled by the UDFa's who at best are competing for the PS at the cut or later in the year.

You want REAL signings, players who would compete for those end of the roster positions or at least for the Practice Squad, basically to compete to be one of our 70-player roster.

We can certainly hope. Sometimes we do sign players in August. Occasionally, we trade for players, especially if there are injuries.

There were no such signings between the draft and the week of the so-called final cuts last year. We did pick up some after the final cut, mainly because we were high in the waiver priority.

We picked up DIvito, Woods and Gregory. We also signed Durden to the PS and then soon to the 53. That was it for the "real" late signings after the draft last year.

Josh McDaniels teams have have at times but certainly not always.
Welker was a “slot guy” in the way you are referring to them.
Edelman was not, he played outside a lot. Last year we used Diggs who is absolutely not that guy.
Having to use a small quick short route guy in the slot is huge misconception. We saw it last year when “the slot guy” Douglas played 10 snaps a game or so. Running quick hit routes out of the slot isn’t a system it’s a package.
