2025 Red Sox Thread

I believe the money would have made Mookie more comfortable. They lowballed him. The city loved him and he knew it.

The way they handled Lester was unforgivable.
Thats the rub though, the Red Sox weren't comfortable with his playoff hitting metrics, and body type to throw the 375-400 it would have to overcome the other factors ergo his ask was to high for a reason.

I see two teams in baseball that it matters or should mean something to play for them. Yankees and Red Sox. If you are fortunate to play for either organization you should be forever grateful and realize the gift you have been given. Don't give me LA nobody out there cares about that team, they care about status.

I'm not sure I buy the subpar hitting in the playoffs as the issue. They may have used that as a negotiating dig but that isn't a reason not to pay him. Body type I get. We are seeing any concerns they had become a reality. a 6y 190m deal would have been reasonable.

Problem is they NEVER made him and offer.

Thats fair I suppose, and thats very reasonable. Maybe they knew he would never take that deal so why bother?

Posey - "Rafael Devers is a DUDE. Rafael Devers makes his teammates better".

Completely different ownership but the Lester trade reminded me of Hurst's departure. Both were absolute failures of management and ownership with quality guys that wanted to stay here until they were just pissed on so much it became impossible.
Carlton Fisk has entered the chat.

That Haywood Sullivan, Buddy LeRoux, Jean Yawkey ownership trio was a cluster****.

Fisk, Lynn, Rooster and a short-sighted trade of a young, promising Cecil Cooper for 33 yo George Scott who had one good year.

That's being kind. Yet somehow for all his behind the times incompetence, Haywood was far from the worst 'Sullivan' in an ownership position we've suffered through.

Without ever being near as well liked Devers has moved into Kyrie/Johnny Damon territory right quick
Yeah Kyrie sucks.
But Damon? He'll no!
Damon didn't want to leave. That's on ownership. I never understood fans turning on Damon

I simply meant in terms of how fans felt/feel about them, not that the feeling was/is justified

Full disclosure: Cooper-Scott was a **** O'Connell trade. Dude made some really, Really bad ones during the 1970s; and one of his very first ones as GM back in 1966 - Earl Wilson to Detroit for Garbage - might've cost his team the '67 WS... Seemed like he was a better evaluator of minor-league talent than he was of major-league talent.

And that 1986 team? They should've been our own Boys of Summer, because some of the key members of the 1975-78 teams, including Fisk, Cooper, Burleson, Lynn & Eckersley, never should've ben sent-away in the first place.

Yeah Damon said he'd never sign with the Yankees no matter the money... then he signed with Yankees because of the money.

Sounds like Raffy shot his way out of town. No point having a malcontent here.
