2025 Red Sox Thread

A quality starter. Lugo should be there if the Sox want him. He would automatically be their 2nd best starter after Crochet.
Followed by Bello and Giolito and that's as good a rotation as there is in mlb.
They do that they are legit threats to win it all. Lugo would cost them one of their top young players or Duran. The competition will be fierce as he's by far the best starter available. But Sox have more trade chips than any other contender. We'll see.
Things are getting interesting and yeah, they're fun to watch.
I'd love Lugo but now there's a possibility someone even better could be available for trade: Joe Ryan. Twins are falling out of contention and Ryan will be due a huge payday in another year. It will cost tge Six a lot but Ryan's worth it. He's a bonafide allstar ace. And he's young. Only 5 years in the bigs.
Every contender will be throwing huge packages of young players and prospects at the Twins. But again, the Sox have more quality trade chips than anyone.
Both Crochet and Bregman spent a lot of time hanging out with Ryan at allstar game, so maybe there's a little fire under this smoke. I'd hate to lose Duran or Abreu but that's the cost plus some top prospects. Do it. It was worth it for Crochet, it'll be worth it for Ryan.

Meh. They salvaged the series finale. To your point....to compete for the division they need more hitting, starting pitching, and bullpen help
I think at this point, we can judge them as they are what they are. They'll probably battle for the wildcard, build some excitement. I would expect them to have another hot streak as well as a slump. I'm tempering my excitement and interest because I don't trust ownership to do anything other than fleece the fanbase of their money.

Yep. They feel like a late 90s Red Sox team. With Devers gone, their clubhouse is made up of a bunch of dirt dogs with talent here and there but not enough to contend.

The skepticism of ownership is well-deserved but if they actually make the right moves( and assuming the players are trade available), they would have a legit shot at winning the WS.
That means trading forJoe Ryan or Mackenzue Gore and adding one solid reliever. I'm not convinced they need to trade for a 1st baseman/ bigger bat- the question is would a guy like Naylor be an upgrade from the Gonzo/Toro platoon?
I'm not sure he would.
Crochet and Ryan would be the best one-two punch in mlb and that's what wins in tge playoffs not hitting. Along with a very good bullpen They have the chips.
Let's see what they do. Like most of you, I still don't totally trust Henry. But they spent for Crochet and Bregman so who knows? 0ne thing that helps is Ryan is young and under control fir 2 more years- not a 3month rental. Henry should see that as a smart investment fir the future not just this year.
The cost in prospects would be heavy but they'd be a legit contender this year and a few years into tge future

Depending on what happens this week, I might follow the Red Sox again for the first time in 15 years. The pitch clock is part of my consideration - the games were unwatchable until the pitch clock was instituted.

Time for Henry and Co to go. This is ridiculous. They traded Tibbs, the 1st round pick from the Giants last year, who they got for Devers, to the Dodgers for a dude on an expiring contract.

What a bunch of **** tards. I've defended Breslow, but this is an absolute joke. What an *******.

You really think this is on Breslow and not his bosses?
Cause me I'm quite sure this fish rots from the head

The fact that they were in on Ryan at the end and didn’t get it done is disappointing

Disappointing, yes
Surprising, no
Once again, interest was expressed. Same ownership with the same BS, only the names of the players they're supposedly 'in on' change and every so many years maybe the GM making the excuses. This tiresome crap outta Sox ownership is more predictable than the tides

The only way they were gonna get Ryan
was if they included either Duran or Abreu plus 2 top prospects. Even then, the Twins mightve said no. Ryan was not one of those rentals. He is under team control for 2 more years. Fact is, they would get more for him by waiting til offseason or even next year than dealing him now.
Smart move by Twins, sucks for us.
In the end, there was not one impact starter available who was better than Bello or Giolito. Not one. So I can't really blame them. But yes, they really needed one more stud starter to have legit shot at the WS. Crochet is a beast, you can argue he's the best starter on any playoff team, including Skubal. Bello has been good. Giolito mostly good. Is that good enough?
I don't think so. They'll probably make the playoffs and if Crochet and Chapman are healthy they could win a series or 2.
But they're still a year away imo.
Good news us they have 2 absolute stud starting pitchers in the minors and one of em is likely to be here next year. And they're l9aded with hitting prospects, more good ones than any team in mlb.
The competition will be ferocious between Sox players next year.
Can't play em all so then you have serious trade chips. Assuming ahem, that Henry is again serious about winning and willing to stop playing Ebenezer Scrooge. We'll see

Not really annoyed they didn't land Ryan. Sox are a good team but clearly are building a foundation based on youth. If they were a WS contender I might feel differently. Trading 2-3 top prospects is a tough pill to swallow.

I'm really annoyed they didn't add a 1b bat however they are 2nd in runs, hits, slugging, and OPS in the AL. 1st in doubles, 5th in HRs, and 3rd in OB%

Henry is still a cheap f---k
