The same way you couldn’t dissect coverages in Detroit?…

It's funny how Players who suck make the best analyst.

And even with the game seemingly secured, he fumbled at midfield with 06:30 to play, and thankfully Wilson fell on it.
More accurately, Wilson snatched it out of the hands of the Charger who was about to scoop it and score.

Wilson’s recovery of that fumble was orders of magnitude more athletic than just “falling on it”, and he deserves credit for that outstanding play.

That’s pretty cool.

Kinda surprised they wasted that innovative defense on the Chargers.

Honestly, yeah. He didn’t play like a “Drake Maye,” and I’m sure he’s not happy with his performance.

Yet he also pulled out enough clutch runs and throws to win the game. And of all Maye’s strengths, the greatest might be his learning speed, including learning from mistakes. Playoff Football 101 course completed successfully.

Ashley? That you?

Or “lineman”. Because the player referenced is in fact a man, so the non gender specific form is unnecessary.

Thank you for correctly adjusting plural to singular, which was the truly offensive and egregious error in the OP.

The best players should have the best grades. They may rank positions against each other, each player is graded independently of other players. I mean if every other tackle this week broke their legs on the first play and not one tackle played, Campbell wouldn't get a perfect score.
No, sorry, I meant like whatever Campbell’s score is would be used to compare him to other LTs, not that they judge them with who did best and then 2nd best, etc. I think it’s just designed to tell you how well the LTs did and which did well and which didn’t. And how Campbell’s score compares to his previous games.

I’m just not sure the grades are intended to be used to say Campbell is a 75 and Andy is an 83. Those numbers help in Madden, but I’m not sure they help in real life. But maybe they are designed to be comparable across other positions.

Wasn't really "wasted", I think they probably just knew they could blitz the ever living **** out of that line and went **** Lebeau on them, which forced them to play more man than normal. Similar to Flores' approach. I think great offensive minds could've seen a bit better what's going on.

There is no "wasting" in football. Plenty of defenses disguise stuff pre-snap. Nothing really that innovative in the game plan, it was just the right game plan and we'll executed. The only thing they did in the Chargers game defensively that informs the next game is now the OC of tonight's winner has to consider the approach the Pats laid out last night. That is a plus.

I wonder what Jerod Mayo thinks of all this. Mayo takes a 4-13 team and wins 4* games in 2024. Vrabel takes that 4 win team, revamps the coaching staff, attracts FA's, drafts better and turns it into 14 win team and a trip to at least the Divisional Round.
FIFY

I wanted drop in & see what was being talked about... my only contribution was going to be, wow, other than the amazing night on D, I thought it was a really bad night on O... until I checked in on DM's full game. I assumed his passing would add up to under 200 yards or maybe a whisper over, given how bad the first half was. I was pleasantly surprised that he had a respectable full game.

I've also been looking at the game from the D perspective, the obvious shining bright spot, and OMG did they suffocate the Chargers. If this unit is as good as they were last night, cue the duck boats and send off the ring sizes.

Nothing that hasn't been said in 39 pages, I'm sure.

I'm thinking this isn't the team that went 14-3. It's getting better.

He was left wide open on several plays.
What happened on those plays?

EDIT: I looked it up. 3 catches on 8 targets for 25 total yards, longest gain of ten yards. MEH. Apparently it didn’t matter very much that he was left wide open on several, plays.

Not a big enough sample size to confidently say he showed that he will patiently figure you out within the game - but I think that's what happened. At first he was as frustrated as Herbert, but he grew, and he and the brain trust cracked what SD was doing. That D made it practically impossible to lose, but be fair, he learned and did enough to remove any doubt (i.e., he didn't coast on his 6-3 advantage.)

But yeah, we have to leave the box unchecked for "Won shootout on big stage." To do that, you have to be in a shootout, and this D was in no mood to play its part in that kind of mutual defensive abdication.

You should spend less time asking why the pats wasted that defense last night and more time asking why McDermott has wasted years of Allen’s career.

Some of the comments here. Wow.

Did I bump my head last night? They won, right?

To be fair he does a good job of dissecting them on video given the luxury of infinite time now he’s retired.

I’ll be very interested to watch whatever analysis he posts for this game.

And his post is just confirming what Chaisson said the Chargers players told him after the game.

Your comment seems aimed at bashing Orlovsky not refuting his analysis. Such ad hominem attacks aren’t really useful contributions to meaningful discussion. Please be more civil, you can do better than that kind of sniping. It demeans you more than the target of your comment.
