LA had a great defensive plan - made Maye work for everything. Great experience for him
That's what I was thinking. He's going to learn a lot from this.

After watching the all-22 some thoughts:
-Woodson had his best game of the year. First game I've watched him on film (notably only a handful of games) where I thought he was better than just a solid player. He wasn't perfect, Allen's drop when Chargers were also flagged for illegal shift was his man but he was late to cover so Allen was wide open. A couple other times he got beat late but the pressure didn't give Herbert time to find his guy. Overall good run support, good coverage and overall very good game.

-Barmore started a bit slow but got better as game went on, still has trouble finishing at the QB. He is incredibly good holding off double teams on run plays. He just doesn't get moved. Had a couple explosive rushes, would like to see it more consistently but after not doing much early was disruptive.

-Durden is stout against the run and has an occasional good pass rush. Very good at holding the lineman up and getting off the block on runs. For a bigger, slower guy has a quick first step and can split lineman on occasion. Not someone you want pass rushing regularly but a great find this year and a solid to good player.

-I posted on Campbell and Wilson in the Campbell thread: Quick overview is they played well outside of 2 plays each. I was surprised they played better than I thought from watching live.

-Chism had 4 routes and thought he was open on all 4. Terrible pass he threw. Willing run blocker and blocks well on the DB's. not so well on the LB's which was only asked to do once or twice.

-Kyle Williams: He runs deep a lot and Chargers were keeping a safety deep. He took the safety deep with him on the Maye TD pass so clearing out the safety was helpful. Good route on his 1 catch. Unlike Polk who looked terrible on tape with little production Williams looks OK on tape. Hoping for a year 2 jump.

-Ponder: Not best game, had a couple half decent rushes but stoned quite a bit. Just MEH all around.

-Henderson: Nice game. I thought he followed blocks and took what he had for yards available. Had couple good blitz pickups including the TD where he just got enough of the blitzer to get him off balance. I thought his vision running has gotten much better from earlier in the year.

That trick play with the pass to Maye looked like the one they tried with Brady. Didn't that time fail also?
Yes in the Philly Super Bowl, that pass was also overthrown. Then later in the game Philly tried it and it worked for them.

Remember Slade and McGinest?
i do.... will came in soon after the Undertaker hung up his cleats... those mid to late 90s defenses were fun to watch

And the previous year they hit the play and Brady ran for quite a few yards.

I think the Philly special was copied from them that day.

Yeah it wasn't pretty but Joe Montana had 3 interceptions and a fumble in his first nfc championship game and did enough.

Drake did enough tonight. Major kudos to him for sticking in there and not blinking or sulking like that choker Chargers QB.
Drake was 6 of 15 to start and finished 11of 15. I like that.

He only had one INT and it was a tipped ball. That's okay.

The fumbles is something that he really needs to work on. That and how to slide to avoid hits.

Were I still remember the year he was drafted and was touted as a generational QB. Came out of high school as the #1 QB, runner up in the 2020 Heisman race (Devonte Smith won) and #1 draft pick. To say he has been a disappointment is an understatement. Watching him throw the ball yesterday he is barely average.
There were like 8 passes interception worthy.

It worked against the Eagles in week 13 of 2015, Amendola threw a nice pass right into Brady's lap.

It didn't work against the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Amendola overthrew Brady.

Both times it didn't work, the design was good, the QB was open, the WR simply overthrew the pass.
It's almost like WRs should catch the ball and QBs should throw it, instead of the other way around.

Last night was the first post season win without Brady in 28 years.

December 28, 1997 was the last.
I might count the AFC Championship where Bledsoe came in and won it, but Brady at least started that game.

I think Efton Chism has earned more Offensive snaps than Pop going forward. I would take his quickness over Pop's speed: at least he seems to understand our Offense and knows how-to find the holes in the zones.

Josh McD can do a better job preparing him for playoff defenses. The short outlets to Rhamondre were wildly successful. Give the kid more hot routes on clear pressure plays. Westover finally caught his first career pass, they need more dump off plays.

Drake played sloppy and they still won the game. Hopefully he got his playoff jitters out of his system and wakes up.

It was good prep for Houston if we play them. I think McDaniels will have a similar plan and add another wrinkle, probably in form of creative and quick ways to get the ball out of Maye's hands. Explosive plays will be few and far between with Houston's pressure.

Houston runs a shot zone and McDaniels is gonna have to scheme up some creative hot routes and coach up Maye how to do some serious presnap reads to find those soft spots in the coverage. How good are Houston safeties? Could tee off by getting them out of position. Probably one of the best run defenses we will face, so we're gonna see a lot of short/no yard run gains for the sake of snaps to set up the pass.

I would love to see them rock him like they did Herbert.
You might see that tonight, the Texans two DE’s have 27 sacks between them.
