2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

Any reason why Ridgeway isn't on your board for DL? Seems raw, but has some interesting possibilities. If they can't get Davis or Jones, is he a possibility to drop in the middle of the DL?

For me, I see him as a 1 tech and I think if bb tries to put him at the zero tech, he will wash out and that is not in our or his best interest.

The late round zero tech that makes perfect sense for us is McCall of kentucky. He will control the “a” gap against the run and give us the same as Davis as a pass rusher.

Watching the Boston College spring football game on the ACC network and Alec Lindstrom was just interviewed on the sideline.

Lindstrom was asked what he was doing to prepare for the draft, and he said that he and Zion Johnson are working out together in Foxboro under the tutelage of Dante Scarnecchia.

There’s a significant contingent of posters here who like Zion Johnson and want the Pats to draft them. You have to think working pre-draft with Dante increases that

Can Johnson play tackle? Lindy’s draft publication lists him as a tackle. Btw, I have a bad cold (Covid negative), so I’m laying low watching a spring football game rather than doing something useful with my time.
I think he excels at Lg and could be a future top 5 center in this league better than Linderbaum. Johnson is the kind of guy who take and know what you get
- day 1 starter
- can help at LG and C
- really smart, good awareness , defensive line shifts won’t confuse him he recognize it and knows his assignments.
- good against stunts blitzes , blocks the DT on a stunt to the OT that the OT can take him and has enough quickness to take the DE
- is good in run and pass
- athletic pops up if you see him on the second level

It would be a great fit

Thanks. Great post. My only issue is that we drafted Thuney in the 3rd round and he did all that too. Do you think we can find someone like Davis or J Johnson in the 3rd round? Maybe a sure thing is better than freaky athleticism?

I was just messing around on the PFN mock draft, and Pickett was still on the board at #21, Carolina offered their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks in 2023 for #21. I jumped all over it! I'm guessing BB would do the same if that same scenario came up on draft day.

Bill playing chess again. Using a "fully retired" (wink, wink) Scar to circumvent the rules regarding pre-draft player contact. #shadowcoachscar

I hope the NFL doesn't subpoena Scar's text messages.

I watched a lot on Ridgeway yesterday including the whole game of Arkansas D against Georgia’s O. He originally caught my eye in their game against Texas when I watched it. Arkansas only played with a 3 man line and still got considerable pressure and held their own on inside runs

I really like Ridgeway. Think he play on the nose or in the center-guard gap and be an effective run defender. Also, I think he can push the pocket and at at 6’5 or 6’6 be someone QBs have to be aware of getting the ball over.

One thing I look for in interior defensive linemen is pursuit. Do they hustle after the play? There’s video of him tacking guys down field. I love that kind of hustle.

Right now the two guys I would love to get out of this draft are a couple of John III s who played in the SEC: Metchie and Ridgeway.

More McGrone hype. Because basically he's an extra draft selection since he was drafted last year with 2022 in mind

Stuffing Steelers starting RB Najee Harris

Stuffing Ravens starting RB JK Dobbins

One of the things I didn’t like about a lot of his college highlights was the way he didn’t seem to stick people when making his tackles. It appears that he would make a decent hit, then go dead at the legs to try and pull a guy down. Which is odd, because he has the speed and power to drive through. I’m hopeful the season off gave him a chance to not only be coached up, but get his body at peak strength.

HD - do you have some clips of this? The 3 clips above show him stonewalling guys and them not getting any extra yards..

In 2 of the top 3 he does exactly what I’m talking about. He wraps his arms around the ball carrier, then either sits or gives up his legs to pull down. In the clip I’ve attached, you see it all over the place as well. He drags guys down more often than sticking and driving though. He’s a sure tackler and holds on. I’m excited to see how he’s developed. Just hope he has gotten stronger in that regard.

Ok. Sorry all. but Burks is now the ONLY WR I want in the 1st two rounds.. He's one tough /Crazy SOB..

He’s something else, that’s for damn sure!

Not seeing it. At all.

I think you can find them later only if you are able to coach them up or they have unknown potential some scouts and draft experts are missing, It happens but it's extremely hard to find and develop.
Do i think Jermaine Johnsohn could be the best edge rusher in this class for us as an OLB type? Yes i do
Do i think Davis is a sure thing for the best NT in this draft? No i don't, it depends on Travis Jones and his third down value and conditioning.
Do I think we can find a NT later? Yes i do, the titans found naquan jones at NT and he contributed as an UDFA i believe. Remember the game, we hardly ran north south against them they looked stout. Also the NT class is deep, so i don't see a need to draft one at 21 when they only provide value for 2 downs while you could find a press man corner at 21. They are harder to find later
Maybe a sure thing is better than freaky athleticism?
Zion Johnson offers both imo, athletic and a sure hit

Sounds like we are looking o-line in the first round. I like Johnson and can talk myself into Penning but really don't want a 25 year old Raihmann in the 1st.

Been going back and forth with that guy ever since BGC showcased him a few months ago. He’s been a fan for awhile now. His tape is phenomenal and his comparisons to Deebo Samuel and Anquon Bolden are promising.

Fans are going to lump him in with Harry which is unfair. He’s a completely different type since he worked in the slot quite a bit and still got it done vs strong sec competition vs wak Pac 12.

He’s an ideal fit for how the offense is run. I definitely wouldn’t be upset with the pick if thats the way they go. Do not want to see this guy in a Chiefs uniform.
