2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

No disrespect to Jones; and he was indeed tempting here - in the same Moving the Change mock I've referenced, he was also taken in the first round after they chose CB Kyler Gordon for them - but Booth, Karlaftis & to a lesser extent Raimann still provided a better match of talent & need than even an athletic 0/1-tech like Jones could (and which we absolutely Do need), especially at #21... Now if he's still there at 54...
For me, in this particular scenario, my choice - as of today, for now - would ultimately come down to Booth vs Karlafits...

I am not a Booth Jr. fan. He looks too stiff in press man coverage to me. Booth is remarkable playing off the line, but at the line he does not appear to me that he turns and runs well with the receiver. Someone like Elam looks less impressive than Booth off the line but more impressive in press man, and when I consider the whole picture, I prefer the smaller, smoother player.

I wouldn't mind Elam either; he's one of a half-dozen CBs (McCreary is just a bit outside) worthy of a first-round pick, especially after a wee trade-down...

I agree on McCreary - not sure why he is rated so high.

I'm starting to really like Nakobe Dean...3.5 GPA as a mechanical engineering major at UGA. Plus his mom was always a Bill Belichick fan lol so that helps.

A name to keep an eye on in the middle rounds:

I see him projected in the 7th Round is some mocks Bo Melton have Excellent testing numbers. I bet he would have gotten more notoriety if he went to one of those WR pipeline schools.

So how comes nobody is talking about this guy Kyle Philips UCLA pure slot receiver?? Of course Patsfans.com have Slade Bolden already penciled in I don't see any bias I'm just saying.

Kyle Phillips was talked about quite a bit by the board. At least I think I remember film being posted and some talk. Am I trippin?

Booth, Karlaftis and Raimann aren't making it to the Pats pick at 21, let alone later. So, why are you even talking about them after a trade-down or in comparison to Jones who is likely to go early in the second?

I've actually talked about him. He's been my binkie for awhile. @BaconGrundleCandy has pointed this out as well..

Most people don't have Slade Bolden penciled in. I don't. He'll be a UDFA signing by someone if he's lucky.

I thought I would like Melton, but there are issues with drops and the act that opposing teams didn't bother to cover his with a lot of press coverage. I think that I'd prefer Christian Watson or Kyle Phillips over Melton from the receiver standpoint. And there are other return men (Marcus Jones) who I think fit better with the Pats in the long term.

Phillips definitely has the makings of a PTP. Wonder what type of conversations Bill & Kelly have had about him. I would like to see Bolden being brought on as a priority FA because of his familiarity with Mac, and I think it would be a good story if nothing else. Any news of how Nixon has come along?

I'm starting to have some real issues waiting for the draft this year...it's taking forever. I need to go into cryo or partake in heavy drinking to get there. Maybe if I drink heavily before cryo I can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Just following up a name from Matt Bowen/NESN, but Khalil Shakir looks absolutely great to me: a mixture of Bourne and Amendola with something of the toughness of Edelman when it comes to punching out the final yard. Does anyone else have views on him?

3-4th rd prospect. Could fall down due to how deep the draft is at the position. Then again, could shoot up because of the intangibles and production. Slower 3 cone than what the Pats like. BGC has him listed on his board as a PTP due to on field performance and play style. Appears to be a high character guy. Not a top end RAS guy, but still makes plays. Tough, Captain, all that kinda stuff we like. Predominately has played slot, but does a bit of everything. Lines up wide, slot, sweeps etc.. Pats sent Ross Douglas to the Boise St. ProDay and pics were captured of Douglas doing his best Troy Brown imitation running Shakir through some drills, or observing. Not sure which. If we drafted him, whose spot does he take to make the team? He’d have to crack the lineup with Meyers and Bourne getting the slot snaps ahead of him. Wouldn’t mind the pick personally. He’d be good insurance in the event Meyers leaves. Maybe drafting him allows the team to use one of Bourne or Meyers in a different capacity to get Shakir on the field?

I fear patriots will trade down (32nd?) in the 1st to pickup more picks.

They will be going for defense. Hopefully, LB/DT/DE.

IF Jameson falls to 21st, would you still trade down?

Yes. Definitely. How does Jameson help the Pats' defense make Buffalo punt?

If J Johnson is available at 21 maybe take him. Otherwise I doubt there will be anyone at 21 that is better than 2 players in Round 2. Trade down. This draft is not top heavy, the talent is spread quite evenly.

Yeah, I just don't understand that. I watched some highlights, and this guy can get open. When I saw his Combine numbers, I started to think he will go in round 2 or 3. If any of you are hoping that the Patriots can sneak him in during the 7th round, there is no way he lasts that long. If I were the Patriots, I would take him by round 3 if he is available.

I get the feeling that most of these mock drafts are just clones of other mock drafts with a tweak here and there. It does not appear as if the guys who come up with these mock drafts actually watch any game film. So someone a few months ago had never heard of Bo Melton and decided to put him in round 7 and then everyone cloned that.

Watching the Boston College spring football game on the ACC network and Alec Lindstrom was just interviewed on the sideline.

Lindstrom was asked what he was doing to prepare for the draft, and he said that he and Zion Johnson are working out together in Foxboro under the tutelage of Dante Scarnecchia.

There’s a significant contingent of posters here who like Zion Johnson and want the Pats to draft them. You have to think working pre-draft with Dante increases that possibility.

Can Johnson play tackle? Lindy’s draft publication lists him as a tackle. Btw, I have a bad cold (Covid negative), so I’m laying low watching a spring football game rather than doing something useful with my time.

Get better soon! And a warning. I tested negative for the first two days.
