DRAFT 2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

Also from January ...
Daxton Hill is a guy every Pats fan should be familiar with. Michigan man that does some of his best work in single high, from the slot and intermediate part of field. Smart player that handled Brown's scheme man/match, zone, single high, box/LB, nickel ... He can handle a lot and looks good doing it.

Plus athlete that has NFL speed and short area quicks. Smooth COD and transitions. Got caught a few times in the middle of transitioning but he's fluid and movements stand out on the field full of athletes. Stand out closing speed.

Range to cut off the field in single high or can chase you down in pursuit.

Needs to bulk up some but he thinks he's a boss out there and will throw his body around with no problem.

Another 4 down physical player with plus versatility. Just see DMC when I see him. Not sure if he can take over that role but he's a player.

I guess Evan agrees

This early in the draft I want an Actual Outside CB, not an out-of-position 'tweener, especially from Michigan where Billy's been getting himself sold some bills of goods lately...

Zion Johnson - hard not to love this guy. No one wanted him, no one. Two time team captain. Transferred from triple option Davidson to multiple scheme BC and had no problems, even excelled. Quick to ID and react to stunts and games on the los. Has started 12-+ games at LG & LT. Took snaps at C recently. Plus grip strength and good to above average laterally movements. Handles straight power with relative ease. Learned how to stay square and mirror from two different positions. Good striking ability with different types of "hands" active and again plus grip strength. Shows good patience rarely fooled or caught off guard. Shows good balance and core strength. Belly to belly strong that is better the closer the contact comes. Able to handle, get a grip, sustain blocks like a pro.
Versatile run blocker but wins mostly by play strength and technique. Uses his hips well in both pass pro and run blocking but it shows coming off the los. Hips first, feet follow. Usually gains leverage and moves his man off the line. Takes proper angles and is a pro coming off combos. Old school in that he win at the los, move and win in the second level.

Teams will fall in love with him while talking to him. He's smart, tough, physical and athletic. Definitely someone we might give a hard look at. He's plug and play rn and played tackle so we could draft him early on.

@manxman2601 gives us your thoughts old timer. You're like the mayor around here. About time to check in and give the people what they want.

@Off The Grid it's been long enough buddy. How about you really get back in the game. The people miss reading 4,000 words they don't understand describing draft prospects.

@WaterfallJumper @Kontradiction @JerseyShore99 @scott99 @ctpatsfan77 @patfanken @patsfanfromoversea @Joker @scout @miloofcroton @Ring 6 @Ice_Ice_Brady @RobertWeathers @captain stone @DaBruinz and others
what are you hoping for, for the first 2 picks?? Names or position.

@mayoclinic are you still with us? You we're pretty good at this, better than most. Probably more likely Putin post his top 50 but it would be much appreciated.

@Ian who are some other old timers I can bother that are still alive? Any check in recently that you've noticed?
First positions I think we should adress with our first 2 selections due to draft class and Free Agents available / price
In Order my priorities for draft
DE
CB
DT
OT
LB

I put LB on the bottom because I think it is a deep class and we have some unproven players there with mcgrone jennings Perkins who could play some role. Besides that I don’t think they will cost that much in FA especially when we look for two down LB

OT is important to keep MAC protected and the run game going. This is the biggest success factor in our offense right now imo. We don’t need to sign a big FA when Mac has no time. I am not that high on resigning brown, only if he comes in cheap. The Offense line class looks really good, sources feel that the FA for this group will be lower than expected

Names I would like with the first pick no matter we trade up down or stay put

DE
Walker
Karlaftis
Johnson

CB
Booth
Stingley
Gardner
Mc Duffie

OT
penning

DT
Davis

LB
None

The other names are out of reach imo
Karlaftis Davis and walker probably as well
After Davis combine I might be ok with him in the first rd even tough I prefer Jones in the second and another position in the first

Names I like additional in a trade down
Jones
Zion johnson
Mcgreary
Gordon
Muma
Chenal
Tindall
Enagbare
Arnold E
Hill
Watson
Raimann

Skyy Moore had apretty weak three cone for a guy his size. Some of the taller guys I can understand. The more I watch watch David Bell is the more I like him.

Certainly an impressive Patriots like guy. Do you think he is a possibility at 21?

At safety I'm hoping they draft Brandon Taylor or Brandon Hardin.
At WR I'd like to see them get Brandon Johnson.
At LB Brandon Smith.
At CB Brandon Facyson.
That way I could stand up at the first game and at the top of my lungs scream LET'S GO BRANDON!

But if you were one of the 31 teams who didn't draft Ngata 6 years earlier then you would've had to have strongly considered Poe too...
Don't get me wrong, I wanted Poe myself. He was no Ngata

Nobody from Michigan please. They have been a sham of late esp. for pats

Between the top CBs, safeties and Jordan Davis, we are sure to find someone very good at our pick. The trick will be to pick high enough in the second round to draft an impact player.

Not at 21 but small trade down after or definitely in the second. We only draft OL with tackle experience for the most part in the first 3 rounds / Top 100. So I'd be a little surprised if we got him so early but he has to be on the short list for top 25-50 prospects imo. Karras was very good last year so that's another thing but you draft the best players that fit your style and worry about other stuff later. We've all seen our team and other use 10 different combos in a season. Having a guy like Zion that could conceivably play C, G & T and do it well. Is a huge asset to have. Reminds me a little bit of Elgton Jenkins. Good teammate, smart and versatile.

Yea I try not to get too excited either way. My film grades are done. All I need are certain #'s for each position. So my opinion isn't overwhelming.

Bell tested poorly though. Love him but he'll have an uphill battle. Really like the prospect though.

Bo Melton did very well in the 40 and 3 cone he has some serious agility to him. I don't think it would cost us a lot to snag him.

What are the chances Pats trade, say, our 2023 2nd rounder for a very late 2nd or one of the first picks in the third (or something like it involving our future picks)? This would give Bill a lot of movability to score some players in the top 70 or so. Next years draft looks pretty good early on so I don't see the 1st rounder (say for Detroit's pick at 32 or Philly's 3rd 1st rounder) in play. But we will likely have multiple picks in the 3rd and 4th next year so I could see taking a chance if the right players are available.
There are a number of teams (Denver, Jax, NYG, NYJ & Philly) with too many picks (they all made at least 9 picks, except for NYG, last year) that could interest this type of scenario. Jax has too many young players and lots of cap room. They don't need 11 picks, even though 4 are in the 6th round. I know the Jets (they made 10 picks last year) are a long shot but they fall into the category of teams with lots of early picks and lots of cap room to splash in free agency.

I'm still alive but far from a draft expert.

It's just so hard to see players perform in college and at all-star games and combines and then project they will do well here.

With that said, can we play Jordan Davis at TE?

He's 6'6". It's going to be an issue at times. You're just going to have to live with some stuff with him. It's there but he brings a lot to the table on the plus side of things.

Plus this was just a drill to showcase his agility / flexibility.
I think people forget that Ted Washington was 6'5.

I like this mock except for the last pick. I'd prefer someone to replace James White, if he doesn't recover from injury (or upgrade JJ Taylor), if possible. But it didn't address a couple of other needs: beef in the middle of the D and an edge rusher opposite Judon.
