Cousin,
Good morning. Toasted apricot and berry bread with jam, orange juice and Coffee to start this day.

Your confidence is well noted but as Triumph says in a few posts down. 'We ain't going anywhere without a QB'. Even Mike Reise who is a big BB supporter/defender made note of the Hunter Henry comments that he is not apt to go to a Team without a decent QB. Wouldn't mind him on our side at TE.

These Draft picks are not sure things. Charlie Weis should understand that. Drumming for Mac Jones does not make him the next TB12. 17% Charlie........that is what you and your "professional" talent evaluators hit on.for success. The worse the Team, the more Draft picks they keep to turn over crappy rosters. Good Teams weiill keep less Draftees. This is why eventually good Teams wind up with older rosters and those Teams decline (see Patriots the last couple). But relying on that "build through the Draft" B.S. is not the only way. If you are an expert with a rifle, don't bring a pistol to a gun fight.

In a study that was done of Team Draft success, the Patriots were mid pack (thought it would be lower). At a league average of 17%, Draft success measured in a fair term of three years but there are two problems. One is "in a fair term of three years" How many Posters feel that BB will stick around for three more years as HC? The next problem is 17% success. That success is measured by Pro Bowl type player, Solid Starter, Valued Back-up or Special Teams specialist. The rest will be cut or traded or just leave the NFL. Some Teams just pick the wrong guys for their Teams.
That amounts to an average of 2 players (not roster fillers) that have added to your Teams yearly line up. In 2019 we were actually poopy, lost some solid players and we wound up keeping more picks to fill holes. In the nest two years we will see who sticks from 2020 but two will most likely be it. You might have blips of say three players but don't confiuse those fringe roster "keepers" who can be replaced every year.

O.K. after that sermon, I have warmed up to Mac Jones, but can he "Justin Herbert" us with a talent that allows him to guide us to play-off contention? or will he "Daniel Jones" us? There have been no rookie starters in the Super Bowl. It has been a rare site in the playoffs (see Butt Fumble Sanchez as exception).......or....will it be a fellow like Kurt Warner, a cast off whom was obtained and led the Cards to the Super Bowl? How about the Raiders picking up some guy named Jim Plunkett who won it all? Didn't Colts cast off Manning win and how about TB12? Foles anyone? Then for you nostalgia veteran NFL guys who remember Van Brocklin, Blanda, Earl Morrell, Y.A. Tittle who brought their Teams to championship games. Not a bunch of Rookies there.

My point is we need a Vet who maybe needs a change of scenery if BB wants his revenge tour. Perhaps a Alex Smith or a Kirk Cousins. Perhaps give up those three first rounders....why not, just look at our last three years, for a Russell Wilson. After seeing what's available maybe Mariota or even bring back Cam (blaspheme!!!!) ...o.k. then get a rookie under him as he might get hurt.

Once we get the QB start the rest of the puzzle. That is BBs forte. He can better 17% on his FA and Trade acumen....i.e rifle.

Thoughts?

I agree cousin, QB issue needs to be resolved and upgraded.

With no QB this team is going nowhere.
The Pats are about to find out first hand what many teams have experienced around the league that a franchise QB is not that easy to find.
Took the Buffalo Bills more than 10 tries and 20 years at starting QB since Jim Kelly to find their answer.

Barring a miracle when the Pats do find their QB answer Belichick will be long gone.

The Pats could be the new owners of last place in the AFCE if the Jets get it right.

Sooner or later they will.
Could happen.

Then Belichick will be gone and there's a good chance we might be there for a while.

Kraft cant be happy at all watching what might have been his 7th title from the peanut gallery.

BB can still redeem himself because I believe that Brady wont win another ring. Its too hard to have the same drive and hunger after winning it. Everything just about lined up perfectly for Brady.

1 Brees was hurt
2 No Mike Thomas
3 Bad call by the GB coach kicking the FG on 4th.
4 The GB DB was holding, but Ive seen way worse not called.
5 Andy Reids drunk son nearly killing people.
6 Mahomes toe
7 Both KC tackles out.
8. Stupid call by Reid calling a timeout before the half with Tampa driving.

Not the Houston moves anybody wanted to hear about, but interesting stuff over the past week. Caserio has signed three of the Texans' six restricted free agents for $1.25M-1.5M total and $100k-200k guaranteed, less than the low RFA tender (about $2.1M) but with guaranteed money (not included in RFA tenders). While we won't see that from the Patriots since JC Jackson is their only RFA, that specific price point is something I think they could have their eyes on in unrestricted free agency. If they sign a bunch of veterans for $1.5M with $200k guaranteed, I think there's a pretty good chance the ones that stick would outplay those contracts by enough to more than offset the dead money from the guaranteed money paid to guys that don't make the roster.

If they are truly willing to pay any price, Caserio should tell them he ain't giving up Watson for less than five first round picks, six second round picks, four third round picks, and Christian McCaffery. Tell them to put their money where their mouth is. If you have a team that desperate for a player, the only way you trade that player to them is if you absolutely fleece them in a trade.

I think the jets and Miami have more to offer with their top 3 picks and Sam darnold or tua. Carolina would have to give up CMAC plus picks at a minimum .

I don't think that is enough for Watson. Watson is a QB who can potentially win multiple Super Bowls with the right team. Tua hasn't shown he is a starter yet and Darnold showed promise early but may be broken. I don't know if they have much value to the Texans. It would only be if they feel Darnold can be fixed or Tua can turn into a starter. Neither are a guarantee.

If Watt goes to the Raiders, you know winning a Super Bowl isn't a priority to him. His best bet for a ring would probably be the Packers or Bills out of those teams.

I most certainly hope we don't have to face him twice a year

Buff or GB seem like good choices.

That about sums it up. Although the problem is the person "in the know" works for the Texans.

This all seems like a ploy to unload him on the Jets because they have a high pick and the Seattle picks. That means a QB replacement and the Seattle 1st rounders are like surplus picks.

Going full Hershel Walker or Ricky Williams seems a little rich for a guy who hasn't exactly elevated his current team.

I don't think Houston has much of a choice:

Miami - Tua plus 3-4 picks

NYJ - Darnold plus 3-4 picks

Carolina - CMAC plus 3-4 picks

I think I was trying to say Miami and NYJ have a better shot at getting him because they have a top 3 pick in this year's draft, whereas Carolina's pick is in the top 10. Plus Miami and NYJ have young QBs they can throw into the package, whereas Carolina does not.

BEN ROETHLISBERGERQB, PITTSBURGH STEELERS

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Steelers owner Art Rooney II is expected to announce Ben Roethlisberger's return for 2021 on Wednesday.

This firms up Tuesday words from Big Ben's agent. Roethlisberger's contract and $41.2 million 2021 cap hit need to be reworked, but it would appear neither side views that as much of an obstacle. Roethlisberger became a liability down the stretch of 2020 as his surgically-repaired throwing elbow appeared to die out, but he is the sort of player who has earned one more chance with his organization. The Steelers possess a readymade Super Bowl roster. Roethlisberger will be the weak link if he can't improve upon this winter's finish.

Looking forward to hearing the details of the restructure, hopefully it makes more cap trouble for their 2022 as well

I don't know if it is a ploy. I think Caserio wants to keep Watson. You gotta assume a big reason why he chose to go to the Texans after years of saying no to other teams is that he feels Watson is a QB that he can build a Super Bowl contender around. Why would he got to Houston and unload him unless the relationship is so toxic that it is irreparable. Not sure they are there yet.

They can just keep Watson. There is nothing saying they have to trade Watson. What is Watson's options if the Texans don't trade him? Sit out and cost himself millions and millions of dollars? This isn't a contract dispute where he thinks he is getting underpaid. He is getting paid top dollar and just is unhappy.
