What do you guys think of Sony Michel?
Patriots Meet With Running Back Sony Michel At NFL Combine
And he would still be a better choice than Tavon F Wilson or Glitch Richards.
I think that those who are worrying about any of the Day 1 or Day 2 RBs such as Michel are wasting their time. We need defense, defense, and more defense (but hopefully not LT or TE)
with our top 100 picks. I would narrow my focus to the RBs projected to go Day 3 or later.
While I hear you on preference, Sony Michel is one of the few players I've watched who could actually replace Dion Lewis if he walks. Michel also has enough size and strength to be a featured back. I'd absolutely love him in this offense.
Absolutely want him in NE (assuming Lewis is a goner), I'd like a trade down from 31 to cop him
I think you're being a little too short sighted here, as free agency is yet to happen. What if the Pats trade Gronk, lose Solder, lose Lewis, lose Burkhead, lose Butler, lose Waddle, and sign Dontari Poe, Preston Brown, Pernell McPhee, Marquis Flowers and bring James Harrison back on the cheap? This may be unlikely, but in this situation I'd be very much focused on the offense, and comfortable that last year's holes on defense have mostly been filled (other than Jordan Richards' spot still being his to lose).
As it stands right now, certainly defense is the issue. But I'd like to see how the beginning of the offseason plays out before I narrow focus on positions to target.
Defense, Defense, Defense? The only NEED on D is another LB to start with 54, and KVN
I'd love a speedy rusher but don't think BB plays that game
Otherwise NE is relatively set
DE: Flowers, Wise, Rivers, Lee, Harrison (whom I want back)
DT: Brown, Guy, Butler, Valentine, RJF (whom I want back)
LB: HT, KVN, ROOKIE, Flowers, Roberts
FS: D Mac, Harmon
SS: Chung, Ebner, King
CB: Gilmore, VET (Talib), Rowe, Jones, Jones (Maybe Bademosi)
This kid is so built for NE...Hope it happens
Hope we can still hang on to Burkhead in this case. White/Burkhead/Michel seems like a great mix.
Agree. No point in getting to position centric before FA plays out.
Who's the lead rusher? Rex?
I would expect a similar as-you-go mix as last year. Personally I have not given up on Gillislee yet either.
I actually fear NE not cutting him
Maybe unfair but rather not see him in NE again
We NEED (not Want, but NEED) the following:
- a Big DT to pair with Malcolm Brown on 1st-2nd down/short-yardage/goal-line situations;
- a DE to pair with Tre Flowers who puts Consistent pressure on the QB;
- Two LBs who can cover NFL players;
- a Big Nickel Safety of the future;
- and a starting-caliber CB to pair with Gilmour.
Sounds reasonable with 6 picks and 87 contemplating retirement, Edelman aging, Dola/Lewis/Solder FAs
Wow. This might be the first year I've been pretty much in complete agreement with you about our draft needs. All joking aside, free agency may change how we feel about the roster going into the draft. Let's see how it shakes out, although I'm generally right there with you. I don't know how realistic this is, but as of right now, my targets look something like this:
DT: Vea / Settle / Brown / Atkins
DE: Ejiofor / Street / Lewis / Carter / Holmes / Haynes / Thomas
LB: LVE / Burks / Turay / Leonard / DeLuca / Worley
S/LB: White / Harrison / Elliot / Neal / Burks
CB: Ward / Davis / Alexander / Hughes / Oliver / Phillips / Nelson / Yaidom / Harris / Stewart
I probably left out some players, but right now that's about my board (from memory).
I’m not worried about Gronk retiring (I believe he plays) but I would hope we look at the TE spot in this draft. Gesicki is prob the most complete TE but I’m guessing he goes before we’re up at 31. Goedert I think is this years small school athletic freak (Adam shaheen) I’m guessing round 2 along with mark Andrews (whose running after catch reminds me of Hernandez). Fumaghali just seems to make plays and should go 3rd 4th round.
I agree for the most part. I just dont think you will get LBs who can drop into coverage consistently for this season from the draft. It takes a while for most college LBs to actually be physically and mentally in a state where they can do that. The blue chippers that can overcome that deficit by having freak athleticism are far out of reach for us.
Similarly, while having a second starting caliber CB would be nice it is a luxury relative to the other needs you have posted. In a world with limitless roster spots or resources I would try to get a veteran like Talib (or Sherman if he can be healthy enough) but in our universe where resources are finite I just dont see how we can spend 6-7m on a luxury player in a stacked secondary while still trying to figure out how to finance a Solder extension. Because, again, unless you are getting a blue chipper (or someone who falls due to disciplinary concerns) you can not expect get someone who is "starting caliber" (i.e. an immediate upgrade on Rowe) in the draft.
Think there are two LB who could probs play in coverage; One is Malik Jefferson just because of his athletic ability. The other is Nick DeLuca
