Belichick on Brady’s Stadium Tribute: Not Focused on ‘Marketing Things’
Bill Belichick is one of the best when it comes to shutting out distractions, and for the next four weeks that includes quarterback Tom Brady.
Having been down a similar road back in 2008 when Brady was lost for the season with a knee injury, for the next four weeks the focus will be on Jimmy Garoppolo, who will be the person responsible for the team’s fate for the month of September while Brady serves his suspension.
On Sunday, the Patriots unveiled something special for their quarterback, who was exiled by the NFL at 4pm ET the day before as he begins his four game ban by the league. Our own Russ Goldman was at Gillette Stadium early Sunday morning as one of the first to catch the fitting tribute the Patriots put together for the veteran quarterback, which has been a topic of discussion since word spread after the news came out.
But Belichick isn’t interested in talking about that at this point. He’s got four games to win and Garoppolo is the guy who he’ll need to have ready until the his other quarterback returns. That means he’s compartmentalized the next four weeks, and any mention of Brady is just a distraction away from what he’s trying to accomplish.
“Our focus is on the Cardinals,” said Belichick when asked about it Tuesday. “That’s who we play this week and all of the other decorative and marketing things and so forth are not really part of the team’s preparation. We’re focused on Arizona.”
