Hopkins next week:

Don't remember seeing that one before; but now I'm trying to forget the image of him if he gets his wish...

Granted Corey Davis doesn't belong in that company, although his average catch depth is still elite (5th longest of all WRs last year, playing with a ****ty QB).
One of the prospects i look back on every now and then. Production, athleticism - he had great acceleration. Tough as hell, would go over the middle np. One of the better blockers in the league. Probably top 5-8 blocking WR. Just never put it together to warrant a top 5 pick but hes made quite the career for himself.
Parker? Or are you anticipating a Jonah Williams trade near the end of TC if everybody stays healthy, like I am?
Honestly I go back and forth but lean trade even though I want to give Mac the most # or NFL options to pass to. Guys get hurt. It's not like we're top heavy, the depth would be the star of the show imo. Hop, Parker, JuJu, Bourne are 4 proven, quality WR. While other teams are top heavy we have a sweet rotation of guys that can make it happen in intermediate/deep intermediate area.

I'm also counting Gesicki as a WR too. He's been taking snaps with the WR I believe and isn't much of a blocker at all. So we should be able to create a nice quality rotation if Hop is on board but someone might need to go.

I think Hop/JuJu/Bourne would actually be sweet. Bourne isn't a true X but can work outside and was our best WR not too long ago. I really like that trio. Add in a true deep threat and you have something.

If Mac is that guy. He'll make that work for a real playoff run.

*edit*
Go sign up for the all time draft Capt. You too sgu.

I've seen Jonah Williams mentioned a few times now. I know he was a high pick, but wasn't he part of a bad OL that almost got their QB killed? Fill me in if he was a good player on a bad OL, or was he part of the problem. Tell me why I should be excited about adding this player?

Quite a number of posters in here are going to be upset when they find out he can't separate anymore.

Separation was never really his strong game. Wins many other ways though.

Hopkins is not a speedster. He’s had his success with route running, 1st steps, deception and fighting for the ball. He disguises his routes. He will show routes and then branch off of that with different routes as the game goes on. The defender will expect one thing because Hopkins sells that and then he will show a different move that throws the defender off. He would be a WR1 on the Patriots and be an upgrade from Parker even at 31 yrs old.

This is NOT the real issue.

We would likely cut or trade one of our top 4 receivers if we acquire Hopkins.

For me, Thornton's role matters little. He won't be cut or traded. The issue would be to decide between Parker and Bourne.

Parker would be let go in this scenario, as his role is redundant to Hopkins.

Not caring leads to stupid cap situations.
The Pats have the most cap room in the League over the next three years. So the one thing we clearly don't have is a "stupid cap situation."

Reiss on a possible contract (also culture fit)

Financial market: Odell Beckham Jr.’s one-year, $15 million deal with the Ravens that could be worth up to $18 million would be a coup for Hopkins. Beckham seemed to benefit from a competitive bidding situation, and perhaps the Ravens’ needed to placate quarterback Lamar Jackson as they navigated his contract stalemate at the time.

What are the chances that type of perfect storm unfolds for Hopkins? It seems like a longer shot, especially in New England.

A one-year, $10 million contract that would be worth up to $12 million to $13 million might be a more reasonable target for Hopkins (and a team like the Patriots). But if joining a contender is of greater importance to him than the contract, a la Randy Moss in 2007, that would change the dynamic and give top-tier teams with less financial flexibility a chance to get in the mix (e.g., the Bills).

When the Patriots landed Moss, he was so motivated for the fresh start (and playing with Tom Brady) that financial terms weren’t a top priority for him.

Hopkins' approach will be telling in this regard -- how does he balance pursuit of a first-ever Super Bowl ring with the most lucrative contract?

Its the typical Pats MO.

Build up all this chemistry in the WR corp and then blow it up when an old notable WR shows interest. You know that BB will give him OBJ money too. 15 mil guaranteed.

Parker has zero dead cap ramifications if cut, he could also be traded. Bourne has some flexibility to play in different roles, Parker really doesn’t. There’s also a dead cap hit if Bourne is cut.

If Douglass, Nixon, Webb, Lee or Boutte show anything whatsoever and they’ve signed Hopkins… they’d save 6 million by moving on from Parker.

Wouldn't Hopkins also open things up for Parker as well?

Not claiming he is either; but as of now he's still > BoneyT.

Don't know of anyone who Loves him; all I know is that after those first couple of disastrous games, Parker produced for Mac whenever he was on the field... BoneyT not so much.

Besides, don't other teams have more than one X-Receiver on their roster? Does that make All those dudes redundant too?

All some of us are saying is: Even if Hopkins is a Patriot by this time next week, there is No Reason Whatsoever why Parker has to be dumped immediately thereafter; let's wait until the end of TC to determine if that's gonna be necessary.
I agree that dumping Parker right away is unnecessary. But Hopkins makes his skill-set redundant. Having both on the field at the same time makes it easier for defenses to cover.
But keeping Parker for a while may be necessary anyway for an entirely different reason: injuries to our current group of wrs.
Reiss reported today that Thornton is dealing with a soft-tissue injury apparently from the last ota.Ota. That's on top of JuJu still managing the knee injury that kept him out of AFCC.
Thinning the wr corps right now doesn't look like the right move.
Still a longshot to sign DHop but I think most of us agree he'd improve the team.

Sign him, hold on to Parker and Bourne thru preseason at least.
Injuries, player growth, team chemistry will shake it all out.

When did the Pats ever blow up this supposed chemistry?

I've never seen Hopkins play in my life
