“defense is full of bad players“

They really looked woefully unprepared which is something we aren't used to seeing in New England very often.

My thought is get to Thanksgiving in half decent shape, and by then hopefully we are running on all cylinders. Like Belichick has said before, up to Thanksgiving is figuring out who you are and what you got, then the real season begins.

Watching Thursday's game, I thought Belichick was going on 4th downs because of confidence in offense.... now it appears lack of confidence in Defense may also have been a factor

Still a long way from reaching that conclusion. Going for short 4ths in the red zone is common regardless of Bill's feelings about the defense.

Yes, let's give no credit to NE opponents. Its not like they're working hard to do the best job they can..

I probably shouldn't bother . and I won't..

Ill just add this nice quote from Dussault:

One point that’s very much worth pointing out is how effective Kansas City was at exploiting the communication issues on defense. Eric Mangini said when he was with the Browns, a big offensive focus for going against the Patriots was having multiple shifts and motions that forced the Patriots to adjust their calls. He called the Patriots defense “rule-based” so every movement by the offense required 11 adjustment calls on defense. The more movement the more chance at miscommunication, and the Chiefs seemed to do that repeatedly.

Oh please. So QB option, shuffle passes x6 to Kelce etc isn't high school offense?

I understand wanting to put the blame on a great offense. It wasn't and a standard BB team would have destroyed them. Time to wake up and see the truth. Prognosticators will blow smoke up KCs ass because they are so hell bent on someone dethroning the Pats.

I stated in another thread that the apparent lack of speed and quickness was a product of hesitation and poor communication.

Please point me to the game I can use to gauge the "standard BB team."

Yeah one that doesn't have a rotation of pass rushers like this that were on the field for the Hunt 78 yard receiving TD:

Branch, Brown, Flowers, Richards. That's a recipe for pass rush success. Piss poor tackling of running backs. I can go on an on about examples of standard BB teams.

BB has 10 days to correct problems and another 6 to study film on NOLA........The end result will tell us a lot about the shape of the Patriots on both sides of the ball...IBBWT

Like they did in 2014?

KC has a very creative offense.

Most people who understand anything about football would recognize that plays that aren't overwhelming successful often set up other plays, like ones KC ran off of that play/look/formation rather than say a shuttle pass out of gun of play action with plenty of motion, crossing and fakes to set up other plays is a high school offense.

at this stage of the season, which is far from an epitaph.

Branch brown and flowers were the pass rush by themselves often in 2016.

Yeah but not when you have Wise and Butler who flashed whenever they were on the field.
Not on first and second down.
These were 3 top players on last years d.
You want to remove them on 1st and 2nd down for rookies who "flashed" on a couple of obvious passing downs?

Come on be reasonable.

We will most likely will go 0-16 this season

I really think a lot of "fans" need to realize that the Pats are going to lose once in awhile. Believe it or not, the Pats are not infallible. There won't be trophies every year.

Again, it isn't that they lost. They lost to Seattle last year but fought to the very end. They lost to KC in '14 but fought until the end.

There was no fight at the end of this one. None. That's the difference and why it's so alarming.

Edit: I almost forget. The AFCCG in Denver. Fought until the very, very end even though they were getting their teeth kicked in.

Read option is high school and as simple as you get, but that's not the point. Reid is a West Coast guy, he's not into motions, but this game, he practically used it every snap to force coverage adjustments. That's the equivalent of the Cable Guy suddenly abstaining from BBQ and eating tofu and kale.

I think it's pretty obvious that the defense was completely unprepared for this, but despite that it wasn't too bad until Hightower went out of the game.
