Yes there is …a draft pick. And if that’s the route we go down…that saves lot of money (even with franchise tagging) to use elsewhere. I don’t like the idea but it could happen.

I didn’t mention a trade….at all. If you want to go that route (which is not my premise)…then trade when he stops playing / when the season is over.

He will play as well as he did in 2025. If he gets injured…he will take more time to ensure he is 100% healthy before coming back. He will play every game as long as he is healthy.
This ends up with him getting $38m a year with the entirety of the contract counting against the cap.
If he has a good season in this scenario, then his demands go way up, and that goes for every single team he's traded to. This effectively means that his trade value gets flushed down the toilet.
When is he getting paid that amount and how many years is the question.

Franchise tag (unless you're willing to let him go for free after the 1st yr he's on it) requires a 20% bump above the top 5 contracts.

For all the reasons I mentioned. If you're unwilling to pay him $33m per, you're definitely unwilling to pay him $38m per. So you've already determined you're not going to revisit the contract. And if you don't trade him, his trade value drops into the gutter, so you get little to nothing back for him.
No one is going to trade for him absent a deal in place.

Why would they not revisit in the off season? No offense man but I think that would be boarding on insane.
I've said this already 3 times. His demands will go up exponentially if he plays well on the current contract. He will be incentivized to demand a ton of money at that point because he'll be only a year away from free agency. Now is when you get him for $33m.
And this is precisely why his value drops the closer he gets to free agency. Because he'll keep asking for even more.
Sure, you can do that P, and play bad on purpose and hope that some other team will pay you a hundred million KNOWIING that ypu will sabotage the team if you are ever "unhappy" with something. THAT sounds like a good plan.
