Curran: "In my estimation... [Gonzo would like to] be treated as if he's at the table in 2027." [previous title: "say goodbye to gonzo"]

there is no "and then"
Yes there is …a draft pick. And if that’s the route we go down…that saves lot of money (even with franchise tagging) to use elsewhere. I don’t like the idea but it could happen.

IF no deal is agree upon, when would you trade him?

My suggestion is that he won't play many meaningful 2026 reps unless a deal is reached. Are you siggesting that we trade him before the trade deadline?

I thought that he would play under his contract for 2026 AND THEN we would trade him if there was no deal.

I didn’t mention a trade….at all. If you want to go that route (which is not my premise)…then trade when he stops playing / when the season is over.

we're not communicating well.

Do you think that he will play the 2026 season without a deal, and, if so, will he play at 100% or just go through the motions for a few weeks.

He will play as well as he did in 2025. If he gets injured…he will take more time to ensure he is 100% healthy before coming back. He will play every game as long as he is healthy.

Continue to pay him on his existing contract and then extend / franchise him until he refuses to play…if he refuses to take the reasonable highest paid CB contract ever.
This ends up with him getting $38m a year with the entirety of the contract counting against the cap.

And for what? Because you refused to pay him $33m?

And to top it off, he then leaves without any trade value into free agency.

Meanwhile you kept a disgruntled player on the roster for 2 or 3 years, and he's refused to play in 18 out of 34 games.

If he has a good season in this scenario, then his demands go way up, and that goes for every single team he's traded to. This effectively means that his trade value gets flushed down the toilet.

When is he getting paid that amount and how many years is the question.

Me? Absolutely you pay him $33m.

Gonna miss you Gonzo, wish Kraft wasn’t so damn cheap.

First, at WORST, Gonzo will be here for at LEAST 3 more seasons. 2 on his rookie contract and one Franchise year. Second, Don't be such an ass and perpetuate the Kraft is cheap mantra. I would have hoped you were smarter than that.

Franchise tag (unless you're willing to let him go for free after the 1st yr he's on it) requires a 20% bump above the top 5 contracts.

So it's just one year. But then he's free to go with nothing coming back in return.

The deadline for this deal is really early November. If no deal by then, you gotta trade him.

Gonzo could force his way out of Town if it comes to that ken. A.J. did a similar thing in Tennessee.

You prefer to trade him with 2 years on his contract then allow him to honor it or even wait a year and revisit it?

For all the reasons I mentioned. If you're unwilling to pay him $33m per, you're definitely unwilling to pay him $38m per. So you've already determined you're not going to revisit the contract. And if you don't trade him, his trade value drops into the gutter, so you get little to nothing back for him.

No one is going to trade for him absent a deal in place.

I’m not sure your argument makes sense. Who in their right mind wouldn’t pay him $33m a year.
So you've already determined you're not going to revisit the contract.
Why would they not revisit in the off season? No offense man but I think that would be boarding on insane.

I've said this already 3 times. His deamnds will go up exponentially if he plays well on the current contract. He will be incentivized to demand a ton of money at that point because he'll be only a year away from free agency. Now is when you get him for $33m.

Reports are that the Patriots are not offering Witherspoon's contract.

No one is going to trade for him absent a deal in place.
And this is precisely why his value drops the closer he gets to free agency. Because he'll keep asking for even more.
