All reasonable except the HOF committee rules forbid voters from voting for any reason other than performance. And that violation is punishable by a voter losing his/her priviledges. But the NYFL is being run by former Jets.

I mean, of course Walsh didn't have 8 losing seasons, he only coached 9 years. The only real comparison here is Noll and Shula because they had longevity.

Noll had 7 losing seasons in 22 years of coaching as opposed to Belichick's 10 in 30.

But regardless, everything has a context. If you take on 2 rebuilding jobs in Patriots and Cleveland, you're going to lose. I'd argue post 2020 was a rebuilding job as well.
Halas without Luckman, Lombardi without Starr...

I think we ought to re-name some of these shenanigans.

I propose Filming-Openly-but-from-an-Unpermitted-Place-Gate and Ignorance-of-the-Ideal-Gas-Law-Gate. I'd add Stupidly-Filming-a-Documentary-During-a-Game-Gate. Then, of course, there were the numerous I-Can't-Believe-Belichick-Knew-Just-What-We-Were-Going-To-Do-Because-He's-a-Great-Coach-So-He-Must-Have-Been-Cheating-Gates.
What amazes me is that these jokes haven't been forgotten or understood for what they were, or that some coaches haven't let some writers in on the joke, so now these idiocies are taken seriously by Hall of Fame voters.
CryGate

DefameGate

But he still should have been elected on his first try.
The corruption and fraudulence of the league and the prejudice and ignorance of opponents and the media are such that Bob, Bill and Tom should be inducted on the first ballot even if they did do what they were falsely accused of (illegally taping and using sideline footage for years by media and opponents as implied by Fraudell's actions, and manipulating footballs by all of those three).

That ****stick Borges is on the Committee? Oh **** wtf.
Ron called in to Bertrand & Zolak Thursday morning and talked for around a half hour, and was his usual direct, informative, substantive self explaining the voting process including the recent changes in guidelines.

Despite his unpopularity here, he's the best person to advocate for a candidate, and since he already had Kraft and Vinatieri, they had someone else speak for Belichick, and Ron thought he did a good job.

There are voters who prioritize the nonexistent validity in the Patriots' witch hunt convictions.

These guys DO just lay aside the greatest body of work of any head coach in the NFL because of allegations of "Cheating." Players and coaches have made slanderous allegations that they were the real champions, because they would have been the better team if NE didn't cheat. Well, you can't prove or disprove a counterfactual, except to demonstrate that what's been exploded into this dynasty-explaining story was practiced by other teams without any real concern by anyone.
They say what people across the nation want to hear and choose to believe, to make themselves feel better(Sound familiar?.......)
Anyway, I don't think it's a mystery. I think if there are no "scandals" he's first ballot. And if there were no Patriots dominance, there would be no "scandals." The HOF comes with an asterisk...
There has always been league resentment and jealousy of Bob Kraft, for his swooping in, saving the Patriots, and being successful right away.

Bill Belichick was supremely unpopular with the media since his stint in Cleveland.

Tom Brady was belittled and dismissed since college.

All these three facts, along with the most successful modern sports dynasty they created, though they contributed, amazingly, are not the genesis of the greatest unwarranted imposition of an unfair competitive disadvantage in team sports history.

THAT would be local Boston media's negatively biased denigration maligning its pro football team admittedly owned by cheap people but nevertheless successful and genuinely lovable with heroic, blameless and high performance high character players. The false laughingstock narrative originating in 1970 with the consummation of the merger, was picked up nationally and has continued to grow to this day, 56 years later.
torchbearing mob-mentality
Fran Tarkenton in 1974 or O.J. Simpson in 1976 getting tossed out of games after starting fights because the Patriots had the temerity to be competitive on the field.

The Patriots being a national joke because their coach was planning his exit while his team was headed for the playoffs - which only 5 teams in each conference qualified for at that time.

The 'hapless' Patriots of 1981. 1981...the sole losing season for the Patriots in a stretch of 13 years.

The Patriots weren't 'supposed' to go to the Super Bowl in 1985. The nation didn't 'want' it.

"The Patriots embarrassed the league."-Paul Tagliabue, 1990. Not themselves, but the league. And not the Giants or Cowboys, who actually abused female reporters trying to do their jobs and not ogling half naked black players.

The Patriots returning to the Super Bowl in 1996 was not the story, but their coach (again) plotting his exit during the playoffs.

The false cheating allegations and criticism and denigration of the Patriots' success hit a crescendo the very instant the Tuck Rule was called.

And the commissionership of Dodger Fraudell six years later is all it took to corroborate and validate all of the crying and nonsensical false cheating allegations increasingly blathered those six years.

And it never stopped, the league spending $millions to again oppress the Patriots who did nothing, as opposed to next to nothing seven years prior.

No it shouldn't lol. Players are almost consistently worse. See some of the dumb **** and rankings players make up.
Read my post carefully. I didn't say "players".
I said some who are in the HOF.

NFL rules changes directly influenced by Bellichick. Nice to hear Willie recite a litany of reasons that BB was the GOAT coach.

Amazing good interview. Only wanted to to watch 5 minutes. Did the whole 30. whee- Doggie good!

One item they failed to mention in the „rules changes“: Joint Practices. Nobody ever did that before BB, now everyone does.

„Pope vs America Willie, who you got?
I gotta go with America!“.

Two solutions:

Revoke the damn thing or make vote transparent & give them opportunity to change
OR
Change the coaches retroactively eligibility to 3 years. Vote him in first ballot in two years.

Other guys have succeeded and come from 'nowhere' in the draft process. And the media applauds them.

What makes Tom different? Why the resentment? After all, he should be a media darling, by usual rights. Definite underdog. Definite success through adversity. Handsome. Buuuuuut, he was TOO successful. I think the media started to feel like somehow his success was mocking them. They consistently wrote him off, even in college. Put together a few great years, have a couple of Super Bowl wins with historically great teams? Hey, it's the team as a whole that did that! Not the guy we said was only worth a late round draft pick! But then, continue to dominate year after relentless year, win some more Super Bowls over a decade after the first few, and slowly it becomes apparent just how badly you misjudged his talent level.

Then add in the -gates. "Oh, that's how he wins", the relieved media says. But then he continues to dominate after the NFL took away the advantages his supposed 'cheating' had.

The final kicker was winning without Belichick. By that point, I think the media was in full embarrassment mode.

Haven't heard from Dungy, he's a Hall of Fame voter. It's weird that there is no statement from him, i wonder why....

I wasn't trying to demean Bill's accomplishments. I was trying to figure out how the **** anyone left him off.

The NYFL HOF is a joke.

Another guy who has no business being in the HOF.

Don't cheapen Lombardi trying to make a point. Without Starr, Vince was 0.633.
Actually he was .537
Career 108-49-7
W/Starr 81-28-4
W/o. 27-21-3 =0.537

People complain about how he didn't give the fans more in the press conferences... personally, I loved it. BB being the grumpy old man in the hoodie looking like Darth Vader and grunting at reporters was one of my favorite personalities/schticks of the whole dynasty run. I thought him being a grouch was hilarious. And even in the down years at the end, I didn't care. Sure the results weren't there but I don't think the results are in any way impacted by what he says or doesn't say to the media. So him just being grumpy was still something for me to laugh at.
I much prefer Vrabel's style.

MY FANTASY

A delegation from the old days (think Coach Vrabel, Edelman, Light, Ernie, Scott Pioli, Dante, maybe Big Bill) goes to Belichick and Kraft and says: "Guys, enough is enough. If there's one thing that this shows, it's that it's time to bury the hatchet. There are too many haters outside New England without Patriots Nation fighting itself!"

Coach Belichick comes to Super Bowl practice, speaks to the team, sits in the Owners Box, takes applause from the fans ...

Can you imagine?

Actually he was .537
Career 108-49-7
W/Starr 81-28-4
W/o. 27-21-3 =0.537

w/o Starr as starting QB, Vince is 19-11-2 for a win/loss percentage of 0.633.
