The weight to 1st ballot vs. not is one of the most disoriented takes for HOF voters across the board in sports. It is a very binary deal. Someone is a HOFer or they are not. That is the question when voting. But the gatekeeping douchebag, smell my own farts, pretentious voters like to do anything to have more importance where they can.

Yeah, like Spygate was a real rule break that the Patriots did, but #1 other teams did it too and #2 it wasn't what everyone thinks it is. Almost 20 years later people still think it's about filming signals.
