The Tom Brady rumor thread

I want Brady gone......it's the only scenario that is even remotely interesting

FWIW Jay Glazer says that the Brady himself doesn't know where he's going to go and that the Pats would be crazy to let him walk

The Tom Brady lip-reading mystery is solved - ProFootballTalk

Enhanced audio has surfaced of the exchange between Julian Edelman and Tom Brady at Saturday’s North Carolina-Syracuse game. Apparently, Brady wasn’t even responding to Edelman says of Brady, “He’s coming back.” Instead, someone asked Brady, “What’d you tell [Syracuse coach Jim] Boeheim?”

Said Brady in response, “He’s got it.”

So there it is. Brady was saying nothing directly or indirectly related to his own future with the Patriots.

Thanks for posting the only decent article in existence about the situation. I so hope that little weasel Darlington and Schefter are wrong...they are just fanning flames, along with dozens of other “reporters” with absolutely no clue. Curran is the only one who clearly has knowledge of the situation and doesn’t have some piping hot take whereby he claims some sensational headline.

I think Brady comes back. The Patriots effort to “overhaul” the offense is a great sign, as is the communication between BB and TB. Anyone who thinks these two are adversaries or need to “prove he can win without the other” is a gullible idiot.

How exactly can they “overhaul” the offense? They don’t have much cap room to begin with and will get even tighter signing Brady. They have one pick in the top 80 of the draft and there’s hardly any worthy FA available. Even declining AJ Green is likely to get Franchise tagged so that’s another potential player gone.

The real twist is Brady returns because nobody wants to sign a soon to be 43 year old.

It seems like a huge challenge, but let’s see what Belichick comes up with. They can cut Sanu and save $6.5M. They might let some guys walk and focus more on skill players. It would certainly seem that it’s an overall zero sum game in terms of the overall team strength, but that might be what it requires to keep Brady, and keeping Brady makes it a huge net gain for them. Their defense can afford to downgrade in some areas provided Gilmore stays healthy because he covers up so many deficiencies.

I agree. I think the Pats will do enough to lure Brady. I really don't believe he wants to leave. As my brother-in-law said who is a Jets fan, you have BB and then the second best HC is 10 spots below Bill.

Can they cut him at this time even though he said dealing with an injury?

And let’s not forget the dead money hit if Brady signs after the start of FA.

Look at past Pats history. They have overhauled many times. 2000-2001. Perhaps BB's best overhaul. 2006-2007. Went from one of the worst Os to an historic O. 2013-2014- More of a defensive over haul but a huge one. There are other ones too like 2009-2010 when they drafted both Gronk and Hernandez.

BB is not limited in the ways other teams are. He is the best team builder in the business.

Not that I'm trying to say this is super easy to do on purpose, but how did they overhaul the offense in 2007? They traded a 4th round pick for a disgruntled Moss who wasn't making a ton, and traded a 2nd round pick for an UDFA Welker who at that point was a relative unknown. They also added Stallworth on a deal that was super cap friendly in year one (then blew up in year 2), and he ended up being an afterthought by the playoffs.

Again, it's not like Moss and Welker at those prices are just out there all the time, but it doesn't necessarily take the top money splashes to overhaul an offense. Two players basically took us from a middling to subpar offense in 2006 to one of the best of all time in 2007.

You may be jumping the gun a bit with the idea that these teams are going to throw their young, star, franchise QBs out of the window to sign ANY other player for only two years, let alone one that’s coming off a down year where he battled some nagging injuries and would be playing at the age of 43 or potentially 44.

Prescott is NBC Sports’ #1 ranked free agent on its top 100 list, and Garoppolo is coming off a game where he was ten minutes away from being the MVP of the Super Bowl.

San Francisco would be coming off of a Super Bowl victory if Brady had been the Qb.
Dallas would be coming off of another division title and, probably, a deep playoff run, if Brady had been the QB.

Want to bet that those respective teams realize that?

2009 to 2010 was significant as well.

2009- 26.7ppg- WW, Moss accounted for almost 1/2 the targets and catches. 2 players over 500yds receiving

2010- 32.4ppg- WW, Branch, AH, Gronk. 5 players over 400yds receiving.

I'd take back Garoppolo in a heart beat for the right price. He's never going to be Brady but can he win a few super bowls? Yeah, I think so.

dude was gifted multiple chance to win the game this year and failed miserably

AB basically didn't play last season.

So what does he get for a suspension? 8 games? Plead down to 5 or 6 games. Well worth picking AB up for 10 games of his production, plus his availability for the post season.

exactly dudes not getting suspended for the season 8 games max and will be reduced after, and this is with AB getting a vet minimum contract
