Re: OT: Peyton Manning Has Knee Surgery

Why? Because Eli dared to beat us in the Super Bowl? Don't wish injury on anybody, man. I do it in jest sometimes, but I'm never serious because karma is a *****.

Very true sir. I apologies for making my comment then....it was just my opinion....but your right....Karma is a *****.....and I agree about the jest....good one...

Nice start to my day by hearing this. Sure Manning will be back, but how effective will he be? They call it a routine procedure, but why 10 days before training camp? I guess we will see how good Sorgi is this year.

See, I think the bigger issue for Colts fans here is the timing of this Surgery. I mean, It does not make sense. You have been thru Mini Camp and about to fire up training camp and install your offense and all of a sudden you need the second best player in the NFL to have surgery? Am I missing somthing here?

In Polian we trust? Yea, to not tell his fans the whole truth.

My disclaimer here is that I'm a Patriots Homer, however I don't care who you are - This does not ad up.

Re: OT: Peyton Manning Has Knee Surgery

PM will be just fine.

in POLIAN we trust !!!

Yeah, because he has been real honest about injuries. He said last year that Marvin Harrison only had a bruised knee and would only miss a couple of weeks. He was spot on about that, if you consider 11 weeks a couple of weeks.

Sure it adds up. Peyton didn't want to go through training camp, and held off a minor surgery he could have had at the end of last season because he doesn't feel he needs to practice.

Bursa sack problems can be a biatch if not handled properly. I think that was "all" Harrison was supposedly dealing with last season and you saw how that panned out. They always try to treat them conservatively at first with icing and anti inflamatories and rest, but when they start to infect you go to the knife.

It will be hard to keep Peyton off the field, and anyone who thinks he isn't the same kind of whack job like Brady who actually loves TC is delusional. But he knows his offense well enough to miss camp, although there will be some rust to knock off and if he rushes back there could be lingering issues with the knee. Sorgi will be asked to earn his million plus extension, and he certainly knows the offense - just remains to be seen if he can functionally run it. But if they are smart about it they will roll the dice and take their lumps and ignore things like stadium openers and consecutive game records and home field and just focus on fielding a fully functional HOF QB by week 2 or 3 or 4 barring setbacks. It's how you play in December and January that really matters.

Yeah but if you don't play well in August and September, you might not make it to late December and January.

I do wonder about the timing myself. Why a little over a week before training camp especially if Manning has been nursing this injury since February. I understand about being cautious with an injury and trying to treat without needing to go the surgery route, but at some point you gotta make that hard decision to operate and it should be before it affects the chances for the player to miss the entire preseason and possibly the beginning of the regular season.

Article talked about physical therapy and/or conservative treatment since February. This is not verbatim, so please don't hold me to every little detail, but the jist is it has been bothering him for quiote some time, but they seem to have managed the knee up until recently. One can only assume that since activity in the knee has increased from Mini Camp, etc.., that the knee became more irritated and inflammed. So much so that it finally has shown signs of infection. Once that popped up, it was decided that surgery was the absolute best, most logical option. Surgery was not required prior to this, they were hoping to avoid it, but it now becomes THE option. Up front, they KNEW worse case scenario would be surgery, they knew recovery time, they monitored the situation, and pulled the trigger at the last possible moment.

That said, who the hell knows? Polian could be blowing smoke, like most clubs are wanton to do these days. My guess is Peyton will recover in time to get the work in he needs with his starting unit, and they will be good to go Sept 7th, close to 8 weeks from today.

I'm sorry to hear that, really.

However, I'm sorrier for myself having to hear, "The undermanned Colts with the valiant gimpy kneed blah blah.................."

I'm not buying that. Peyton is a football fanatic, he's not going to miss unless something big gets in the way.

Right, I mean have the sugery before Mini camp - I'm tellin' ya something is just not right.

I will never question Manning's toughness or desire or talents, but sometimes your body does fail you. I do think missing training camp and the preseason is bigger than you state. Maybe not for Manning himself, but his receivers and the timing of the offense. I still question if Harrison will be back in the line up at least for the first six weeks of the season. If he is not, that means Gonzalez and other young receivers will need to step up. These guys still need to work on their timing with Manning. Wayne and Clark may be fine, but the younger guys will definitely suffer which could linger on for the first half of the season.

I think this is a bad year for the Colts to get off to a slow start. I think the Jags have the potential to make a serious run for the division title. The wild card race in the AFC is usually tough. Last year, the 10-6 Browns didn't get in eventhough they would have easily gotten in if they were in the NFC.

The Colts have their tougher part of the schedule in November with the Pats, at Chargers, at Browns, at Steelers, and Houston. If they get off to a slow start, they could be in trouble playoffs wise by the beginning of December.

I would love to see the Colts miss the playoffs, but not this way.

Exactly my position.

I'm hoping he's fully operational by Week 9. That's always my favorite week of the season!

Get well Peyton......

Looking forward to kicking your ass again once or twice this year!!!

I don't wish injury on any player. Having said that..... now that Peyton's already had surgery, he should really take his time getting back. There's always next season.

I hate Manning and I root for him to get hurt. A season ender costs me about $50. Other "incidents" could move me into the hundreds.

I don't believe in Karma and I don't like Manning.

I usually totally respect your posts and your knowledge of the game and the NFL, BFan, but that's totally uncool. Karma or no karma.

I agree with whoever said "Get well PM, we want to kick your ass at full strength!"

Yeah, I know. But I still want him out :D

From what I undersatnd this involved a sack in his knee that had to be revmoved or dranined.

Manning has to have his sack removed?!

Who knew he had one?

:p
