PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp - Day 20

That's a wrap. Boston media finished as the winners today as well. Not very many updates from the swath of Eagles writers today, albeit certainly more than the ones from Indianapolis.

The story of the 2026 season is if Maye gets time the pats passing offense will compete to be the best in the NFL. Legitimately 5 deep at WR, Henry/Raridon & the RBs. Reminds me of the 2016 offense.

I see both Vildor and Prunty leapfrogging Woods, and I’m feeling a lot better about the CB corps as a result.
The next question is how good are Vildor and Prunty? If Carlton moves on (cap savings) do we need a 1st rounder in 2027 on a CB or can we wait for a backup in R3 or R4?

Vildor is in his 8th season and signed a 1-year deal, so if we’re looking for someone to take the leap Prunty seems like the best hope.

Prunty is gonna be a good one I think. Might be a candidate.

Answering my own question.

Rhamondre in '21
Shaq Mason and Trey Flowers in '15.
If you’re looking for most recent, then Mondre is the correct answer.
Some other notables.
James White in 2014.
Hernandez in 2010 (great until…)
Malcolm Mitchell in 2016 (tons of promise before injury)

Despite all the good reports coming out of practice today, I’m sure Felger and Mazz will come up with negative things. According to Mazz, all the Patriots “suck”, yet somehow they went to the SB.

Same with smirking Bertrand.

Painful aren’t they?
Add Bedard too.

Bedard is SLIGHTLY more positive.
I find him harder and harder to take.
When he was reporting live from Gillette last week and talking about the turf he was like a little school giggling in the bathroom.
He’s a ****in joke.

I really like him a lot so far. He has a lot going for him, good size and speed to start. But he seems like he can cover pretty well. I know A LOT of people hated that pick, and I never understood why.

Eagles started to look rough when their run game wasn't firing as much as it had in 2024. ~3000 yards rushing dropped to ~1900 yards. Fewer carries, nearly a yard drop in per attempt. That indicts the OL, play calling, etc.

Their defense was still pretty formidable, so it's good to hear we had success against them. A quick glance shows Eagles fans having been worried about their safety depth going into 2025, but a key piece returned this year with rookie Mukuba who's now learning under Marcus Epps. I wonder how Mukuba looked in the practice, if he's following up on the excitement fans had for him early on.

Good team to get a benchmark against. That defense is pretty complete - maybe not the insane set of pass rushers they used to be, but still nothing to balk at.

Because they assume people that write draft guides are always right

I wonder if there is more elaboration on "in the backfield" - I ask because we had a bit of an issue of breaking into the backfield quite often, only to not finish the play. I assume DL players lighten up right before making a sack in joint practices, so maybe it's hard to tell at scrimmages like this.

I am a draft junkie, both the NFL and the NHL. Prunty pretty much went where he was supposed to go. But based on reports in camp, he’s exceeding expectations based on where he was drafted.

Agreed. See Woodson last year - same thing. The Pats are pretty good at finding secondary players.

The question is if Kyle Williams will work out or not.

I heard Drake went 16/19 against the Eagles defense. I may be jumping the gun a bit, but it may be time to start thinking about other QB prospects in the draft. By his third season, he’s expected to go 20/19. Nothing less than perfection!..
