Curran: "In my estimation... [Gonzo would like to] be treated as if he's at the table in 2027." [previous title: "say goodbye to gonzo"]

You must be one of Wolf's relatives. IF Maye wasn't Maye: Wolf would have conducted the Worse Draft in NFL history *For a Team selectingThird overall*. How quickly you forget...I'm surprised it's not talked about more in the NFL media.
we are not related
I simply see a guy that hit on two drafts and 2 free agency cycles after Bill left
he also secured a franch QB, when many wanted to trade back

A few "decent" CB players will get cut from the 90 on other teams. They could also trade a WR for a CB. CB wouldn't be a strength on the team unfortunately. BUT I don't believe for a minute Gonzo will sit out 2026.
2026 would be year Four; plus the Team have the Fifth year Option; which we know is already picked up.
That said if Gonzo wants His dollars $$$$$$$ early his will have to be somewhat cap friendly.

You sure??

if what Curran is reporting is true, and Gonzo wants his deal to inflate year over year based on the cap inflating, I see him playing on the tag next year or sitting out.
too bad.
if true, I believe he is getting bad advice
Gonzo is great, but he isn't change the way football pays players great.
?
Every single contract is like this. What am I missing? That's always baked in.

Gonzo is putting the Pats in a hard situation. He is a CB1 and a very good one. But he isn't the best in the league. Probably not top 5 right now. He is top 10... and among the top 10, he is at an ideal age though and is next in line for the big pay day. But he is not that rare CB that deserves to be the top paid guy for more than 1 year... 2 max. He deserves his turn, but he is not so good that he is a guy who gets that special contract. He gets 'the best guy up' contract. Not the 'singular player' contract.

Gonzo thinking he deserves more than the next guy up contract and that he should get it early is just not accurate. IF he wants the huge deal though, he can go the Mahomes route... but no one wants to pay a CB a 6 or 7 year deal. So that is a non-starter anyway.

Personally i am not sure i believe this. Everyone in his ear is probably telling him the same thing. It is his turn... but even Surtain, the best in the game, had to compromise Even Surtain didn't get his turn for long... his team stepped in though and gave him a kicker to keep him more competitive. But he still isn't the highest paid. If Surtain is still a guy who needs to take his turn, so is Gonzo.
He's the best in the NFL

well no.
a contract base salary can escalate year over year. but once signed, it is then locked in, albeit not all of it guaranteed.
it would appear Gonzo wants his contract adjusted year over year predicated on the salary cap percentage increases.
with the media deals set to expire on early opt out in 29-30, Gonzo wants to ride that wave

What Gonzo is doing and rightly so..he's a top 5 player at his position. So he wants to be paid accordingly and he should be. As he said CBs are going backwards on forward they have tough jobs on the outside. He erases teams # 1 WRs each week. Remember he shares the same Agent as Witherspoon gonzo is playing the waiting game. I believe the Organization has a offer on the table for Gonzo already..

agree
but pay him top of market today, which it appears the team has offered.
or pay him top of market next year.
if he injures, and loses $100m, it's on him and his agent
but I don't see the Pats changing the way the league pays players

I dont think this has anything to do with Witherspoon

we are swimming in a sea of what ifs ...

if he signs great, love it

if hes a biotch about being made the highest paid cb because someone will top it, then trade his ass next year...

not much more we can do... cant hamstring the franchise/cap over a corner, no matter how good he is

i hope we get a deal done, but we shouldn't be afraid to ship his ass to the desert...

Wait. I thought the reason the deal isn't done is because the Pat's are cheap and lowballing Gonzo. Say this isn't true.
This is precisely the outcome for ****ing around and not having a contract extension ready Day 1 of the new league year.
Every day this goes on, the cost goes up.

But we gotta make sure there's no guarantees in that last year, right Jonathan?

I'll just say this; is Gonzo the Best CB in the league or one of the better young ones?? They're many good young ones in the league Today. Having too many Players at Top of their positions Cap wise is not alway a good thing. We can only imagine what Maye is going to get. I would love to see Gonzo play another Full Season before they commit.
If that happens, and there's no contract this season, they'll franchise him twice, and probably be shipped out halfway through 2029, when he's good and pissed off.

Congratulations in joining the Dunning-Kruger club.

Seems you know the details of the negotiations. Can you enlighten the board.

And we thought it was bad during the late 90's with Ty Law.

Dude cmon be for real. Gonzo is top 2 or 3 AT LEAST. If he starts taking the ball away then he would easily claim the #1 spot.

I see a guy who drafted Maye third when everyone who covers and follows football knew that three QB’s would go in the first three picks and which three, he just had to pick the last one standing, the rest of the picks are no longer on the team, heck a couple of them are probably no longer in the league. The following year he has a great draft, just maybe that had something do with Cowden and Vrabel.

I like Wolf, I think he fits in well with Vrabel and Cowden and it’s obvious Vrabel thinks so also.
