Did not watch it nor read the speech but I read about the joke Adam made about Bill and it was low class and uncalled for.

It's one thing to make fun of Manning's forehead or Brady not being the best Pats QB but making fun of a guy's relationship, when everybody else is ****ting on him, is not ok.

1. He played for two very good teams and played for 24 seasons. Of course he scored a million points.
2. He did indeed make the greatest kick in NFL history. An amazing kick.
3. He has 4 SB rings, and won one on a last second 48 yard field goal against the Rams. A clutch kick for sure, although I think many of his peers would have done the same. The other win was against Carolina, where he missed a 31 yard field goal earlier in the game and had a second kick blocked, which would have won the game beforehand. He then made up for it with a second kick at the end from 41 yards. I'm not sure how "clutch" that performance was.
4. I disagree with this assessment. Don't know what else to say.

6. He was All Pro three times in 23 seasons. Never second team. Not that impressive. It would be interesting to research the number of Hall of Famers who were All Pro only three times in their lengthy careers. As a comparison, Justin Tucker, during the course of Vinatieri's career, was first team All Pro 5 time and second team All Pro 3 times.

he was great when he played here
there are a ton of highlight kicks to revel in
but I was at 98-99% of every home game Adam kicked in.
what I also recall, is the times Bill passed on a FG attempt, from 45+ yards because he did not think Adam could make the kick.
fwiw, Adam was 8 for 17 in fg attempts 50+ over his 10 year career in NE

So, getting back to your situation, I know the inner dialog runs smoother if you can say to yourself you weren't pushed, but in reality, it just doesn't matter much. IMO, whatever inner turbulence gets created by being pushed fades away pretty quickly. Once retired you have lots more time to fill. It's best to spend the time looking forward, and to avoid the trap of spending too much time looking backward.

Luckily I'm in a suburban area which is highly desirable when selling ( as opposed to rural areas where practitioners can't sell and just close their doors) and I have people coming to me all the time. I'm in my late 60s which is average age for dentists retiring and you want to sell before practice declines. Wife and I both want to walk away ( she is in a different profession) at the same time and enjoy retirement BEFORE we get too old to travel and while grandkids are still young.
I have side gigs to keep me busy and plan to audit courses at the local community college and teach/mentor at local hospital dental residency program. Hitting the gym more often and working on my crappy golf game are on the to do list.
Life's too short and I've buried a few friends/relatives who didn't get the chance to enjoy retirement so I won't look back.

Maybe more selfish but I decided I'd work more on self-development. I worked hard in college to learn a bunch of skills I never ended up using in my career. The current level of computer power means I can do all kinds of things that would have been unimaginable back then. I've got a decades-old itch to scratch, and it's been my main hobby for seven or so years now. Maybe later when that itch is scratched I will reach out to a friend who is the head of the CS department at the local tech college. She's already asked but I declined.

Life's too short and I've buried a few friends/relatives who didn't get the chance to enjoy retirement so I won't look back.

My dad passed at age 59 and a half. His retirement papers were filed but not accepted when he died, so he never got one day of retirement. That meant that a pension entitlement earned after 35 years working at a gawd-awful factory disappeared. No survivorship rights for anyone. That's how the union contracts at his shop were set up.

My goal was to work as long as he did, but circumstances gave me a way out shortly before that mark. I said I'll take a little extra retirement time to try to make up for what he didn't get. So, yeah, I agree totally.

He's an all time great defensive mind, but he has really become a terrible talent evaluator. When the Jets reject you, that's when you know it's time to retire.

I am not denigrating Adam in the least
but his inclusion in the hall is more about longevity rather than superiority
his rings are a team accomplishment
again, Adam was great, but never the best in the league in any given year.
I believe we have seen seasons where Ghost and Folk were best in league

He was a 3X first team all pro, which means he was voted best kicker in the league those years. Ghost was great but he has less first team All Pro’s than Adam V. Folk? Really? Folk had 0 All Pro’s.

SB’s are a team accomplishment, but also help individuals gain distinction over others. In 2 games Adam won a SB as the game ended. There are many coaches and players who wouldn’t be considered the best or one of the best without SB victories.

I've debunked this many times. They allowed on average of at least 27-30 points to teams over .500. They were always a step too slow against any competent offense. You can't blame Mac or Cam because BB purposely built his teams to stop the other team and it didn't work. The 2nd and WC game against the Bills exposed how bad their defense was. Tua Dolphins ran circles around them. This continued on though 2022-2023.

BB drafted Gonzo, Marcus Jones, Rahm, Owenu, Barmore, Boutte and Pop.

Gonzo was too little to late and missed the season. Barmore's lone standout season was also too little to late. Rham, Boutte and Pop don't play defense.

Godsmack snaps decreased since leaving NE, Bentley was signed by the Steelers than released (still un-signed). Jennings playing time plummeted and finally released by Vrabel. Dugger is now a journeyman. Keion White is a backup in SF and being shot in the off-season is the only reason he's still on the team. Tavai's snap count plummeted and now on his next journey. Peppers barely played in Pittsburgh. Jonathon Jones going back to his reserve role in Washington. Judon is now on his 3rd team in the last 2 seasons. That's 9 of 11 or 81% of the starting defense fighting to stay in the NFL. This shows how much they lacked talent which many posters were in full denial over.

Couple of funny things. If I recall my dabbling in mineralogy correctly pyrite is often associated with other ores, some of them precious metals including gold. The other, extending that aesthetic balance, is the impressive benefits of manure as fertilizer. Piling it higher and deeper (aka phd) has benefits…

Vinatieri also took a shot at Brady. It was all in jest. I don't think Vinatieri harbors any ill will to Belichick, at least not anymore.

I loved Adam when he was here, but I would argue him walking was the best for both sides. He won a Super Bowl with the Colts and I think the Patriots arguably got an upgrade with Gostkowski.

Yep. For a decade, we had an off-grid sheep farem. We had about thirty sheep/angora goats, which translates to a lot of manure. We sold the wool/mohair to hobbyist spinners, of who there used to be quite a few around here. I had to buy an old ground-driven manure spreader to deal with all the poop, and a 40's Farmall to drag it around. These days we just have a couple sheep for old time's sake, but I still maintain a manure pile for the garden and occasionally to top dress the lawn. And like every other old guy, I have a Kubota to deal with it (and to plow the drive, and generally to compensate for my growing enfeeblement).
