This is all moot, because the Patriots won't be trading Romeo Doubs due to lack of production. Cool hill to die on though.

Maybe they should welch on the trade and trade for Diggs.

I do think Boutte is being a little overrated. I think he's good at what he does - a deep ball contested catch receiver - but he only had 33 receptions last year. He only had more than three catches in three games last year. Brown had more than double the number of total catches and had more than three catches in 11 games. As I've said, I just don't think Boutte is worth a sizeable contract so keep him this year and then let him walk.

Perhaps, but I think there is an argument he is underrated because of how his threat as a deep receiver opens up the rest of the field.
He runs a lot of routes that are high level of difficulty to get open but draw coverage to him.
His production is impacted by not being the guy who is #1 progression on combo routes barely at all.

Remember before the injury he was on track for a 50+ catch 900+ yard and double digit TD season.
whether you believe the injury was responsible for the dropoff or not that’s half a season showing potential to be a strong #2

You have no idea where we are picking in 2028.
You have no idea if that pick would be a hit or miss, which will most likely be in the bottom third of the first rd.

They were in a position of weakness. With Diggs gone the WR room looked abysmal with no guarantee that they would get Brown. Also Philly would have had them over a barrel.

Obviously the team (and league for that matter) has less of an opinion of Boutte than posters on the board. But with a trade seemingly an option, the Patriots gave themselves all options.

In context it seems like a smart move to me.

To me, they saw Brown, Gilliam and Doubs as key components of the 2026 Pats offense and went out and paid up.

The Diggs offense was like the Brady offense. He did make huge plays when the Pats needed them except for the SB.

But, Diggs could not act right. His party post AFCC win could have been much worse than it turned out. Diggs is someone else's headache now.

I think it's likely they see Williams as Boutte's long term replacement. Same might be said for Chism and Douglas.

I think they could keep Boutte past final cutdown to force a team like the Chef's to give a 3rd for him. Possibly a 28' 3rd, given that they don't have a 1st in that draft.

I understand being objective, I for one think I am.

Honestly, I think he's just doing it to be as big an ******* as he can be. The people I have met who are like that are just perpetually miserable human beings who try to make others angry because they think it causes them to share in their misery. Other than that I don't know why anyone would bother to follow a team when all it does is make them miserable? The Patriots went from the worst team with the worst roster in football to the Super Bowl, and now we are looking at difficult cuts instead of dogshit players as starters and he's still bleating out his miserable takes non stop.

I said that bringing in Brown was a mistake. I stand by my statement. They aren't going to get jack s**t for Boutte because Wolf's a moron.

The only reason Boutte asked for a trade was because the Pats sent the signal that they didn't want him. All he's done is come in to camp and play better than all the other receivers.

Come on T, you are completely ignoring the TWO year discount we got from Philly for a player that WAS worth a #1 pick in 2026 by about everyone. I am a LOT more pissed off about the 5th rounder we are going to lose next April than the #1 we will give up 2 years from now..

Good deal for use, still a great deal for Philly. They have the kind of deep roster that makes a 2 year wait for pick look like found money. In the meantime Maye with have a genuine top 10 WR for the next 2 years while he is still in his prime and probably another couple of years when his is "just" a quality starting NFL WR.

Is this a bad deal because it ended up helping both teams in the long run. Teams don't fall apart just because they don't have a #1 pick. Remind me again which team is the odds of favorite for this coming season, and how many first round pick they have had over the last decade.

We will lose ONE in 2028, but, it's just one pick in a draft we will likely have 6 or 7 other chances to find 3 or 4 prospects who will make contributions. By April of 2028, hopefully we will have a deeper, stabler, and more experienced roster that is more like Philly's, By 2028 I expect us to be a team that is CONSISTENTLY contending for titles EVERY season. It seems like we are doing it now, even though 12 wins are a lot more likely than 14. In fact, I'd be THRILLED with an 11-win season
