That place is going to be loud.
It looks similar to the design of the SeaHawks stadium

In retrospect, I wish Gillette stadium had been designed to amplify crowd noise

it really gives teams like INdy and Seattle a HUGE advantage

It's actually quite smart.....they get to host a Super Bowl, I believe in 2010. Wouldn't happen if it were an outdoor stadium.

Nope, nothing yet. They got beat out last year by Dallas with a new stadium, the City and team is trying for the next one, which I don't know when it is, but they decide on 4/1/08, I believe.

Good luck with that... it will mean a ton of money for the city. But - and I don't want to sound mean - I just can't see people being super pshyched about goint to Indy to see a Super Bowl.

I am one of those people that think it should be held in select, warm weather cities. New Orleans is great, Miami, the Rose Bowl and a couple of others. IMO, It just makes the whole experience better.

Yes, I think you are correct, they would rather always have it in a warm weather city, hell, I'd rather go to a warm weather city if I was going to it.

As far as hosting it, they have the means for sure, they host the NCAAs final fours, Indy 500 and Brickyard 400 draw around 300k a piece. So they have the infrastructure in place.

I do suspect though there is usually a foot of snow and sub 20 degrees every year on the SB date.

If they don't get this next one that is up for grabs then they may be screwed. It would set a bad prescedent though, cuz I think every team that has built a nice new stadium has gotten the big game.

There are nice, new stadiums in Foxboro, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Philadelphia (off the top of my head) that haven't been awarded one, nor are they holding their breath.

My fault, I believe what I was reading was referring to an enclosed (or optionally enclosed) new stadium in cold weather or a warm weather new stadium. I should have clarified.

I visited relatives in Indiana back in October and we went to Indianapolis a few times and it seemed like everywhere you went in the city you could still see that thing looming over the city. It's actually only a couple blocks from the old dome. I was told that when it's completed they are going to tear down the dome, only problem is the dome won't be payed for, for another 25 years!! It seems that Lucas Oil Stadium cost something like 650 million and the team kicked in a whopping 100 million, what sports huh? It must be costing the citizens a ton of money.

p.s. GREAT edit Disco!! :D

They paid for one dome in 1984, and now they're building another one.

Meanwhile, they still feed their kids fried cowbrain sandwiches with gravy.

Wonderful state that.

Nice roof. Do the lockers come with skirts already in them, or will the players be responsible for bringing their own?

Gillette ain't much better. In another lifetime I knew a guy who worked for them. He discovered a secret (illegal) testing facility of theirs where they tortured animals with their products. You know, slice them with the razors, shoot stuff into their eyes to measure the caustic effect, etc. , and then throw them all on a pile of other damaged and dying animals headed for their incinerator that also didn't exist.

Wow, thanks for making today suck at 10:34 am.

Anyone know thew rules of the exchange?

I think it's the referee crew that makes the call. And they make it a few hours before game time. Supposedly, once the call is made, that's it. Obviously, if they have it closed, then regardless of weather, they wouldn't open it. However, if it is open, and some freak weather comes, wonder if they would close it?

My guess is it will be open 4-5 times a year. I hope thwy don't wuss out and close it, say, on a 50 degree day.
The team makes the decision, I believe 2 hours before kickoff, though the ref can order the roof closed in bad weather. Search for "Ask Jerry Markbreit" and "stadium roof", one of his Q&A columns had the exact rules.

It's up to the team. There is a certain time deadline that once that point is reached it must stay the way it is, no opening or closing after that point. I would guess 5 or 6 games. It's just all going to depend on the day, the last two days it's been in the 60's in January, so you never know. For the most part I think it's going to be for the comfort of the fans and not for the players so much.

Peyaton doesn't decide that. Plus, I think he truely prefers to play out of doors. Although, not sure why, being a Syracuse grad and all:rolleyes:

Uhm, he went to Tennessee.

Boy you sure do add to a football related conversation.

I'm in agreement.

I wish I could find the picture online that was on the cover of last program. It was an ariel shot of the new stadium right next door to the dome. It towers over the dome. If you took the dome and turned it sidewise, you could put two domes side by side inside the new stadium.

BTW, Lucas Oil makes oil for high performance racing like dragsters. It's not an oil company like Marathon or Shell that sells gas.

Huh....I always thought they owned the Lukoil franchise....although a Wiki search tells me that Lukoil is a Russian company that bought Getty stations in NY, NJ, and PA.

It surprised me just how much it dwarfs the dome. I forget what broadcast it was but they shown a view from a helicopter or something going to commercials and you could see clearly just how big it was.

Pretty nice... looks kind of like Qwest Field in Seattle.

=================================

Seattle does not have a roof.

I'm sure it looks fantastic in person, but that picture makes it look like a lego-stadium to me.

What's the over/under on the # of regular-season home games played with the roof Open? I say 2 1/2.
If it's storming outside and they're playing Miami, they'll open it. But if they're playing Green Bay, then they'll close it.

I thought this was about the new dome the Indy taxpayers built. That's what I was referring to. What in the world are you talking about?
