Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
If he goes off for 2 years and is gone going into the 2028 draft, and THEN we lose that 1st rounder for him, no one will forget the draft pick spent for him.
If he goes off for two season it will be going into the 2028 draft and we’ll have a first round pick again. That pick will probably come at the very end of the round. If the team is blowing the doors off opponents nobody will care.
Even if we win a Super Bowl with him, a 1st round pick is still a 1st round pick. In 2028 when Maye and Gonzalez are costing a fortune compared to what they cost us now, top talent on a reasonable contract become that much more critical.
A pick at the end of the round is a couple picks away from the second round. Winning rings is the only thing that matters.

People still bring up what a bad decision Dominique Easley was. We won the Super Bowl his rookie year, 3 of the next 5.

7 years later, people still get angry talking about N'Keal Harry, the last pick of the 1st round. No one can convince me that if we somehow scratched our way past Seattle and we were the defending champs, that failed pick from 7 years ago would have magically gone away and no one would care anymore.

Just re-sign diggs

The Harry miss is greatly amplified by its consequences.

If they come out of that draft with AJ Brown, the entire Brady to Tampa saga may never happen. Antonio Brown and Sanu probably don't happen either.

The boat would have still sunk eventually, but they might have fished an extra Lombardi before the end.

Because Easley sucked, and for the record I hated the pick at the time. Not only was he an average athlete, but he had that injury history. That’s not the same as trading a late round pick for a player.

I’d say you’re highlighting the fact that first round picks can bust outright, or if not a complete bust they can turn into an average contributor. While other first round picks like Ty Warren can turn into a great player, suffer a hip injury and never play again.

There’s all sorts of things that can go wrong in every direction. I already stated I don’t want to trade a first for Brown. I initially said a 4th, but have moved off that to a 3rd based off skyrocketing WR salaries. I’d throw a WR in there as well just because we’d have too many and a couple that need contracts.

I want to win rings most of all. If they went to three Super Bowls over the next four years and won two of them with Brown leading the league in receiving… I’m pretty sure nobody would give a crap about the return compensation.

My point about Easley is he cost us a 1st round pick, and I don't think anyone can make the argument he cost us a Super Bowl win. We still want someone else because maybe they help us win more.

Again, I have no issue with trading a 3rd or 4th rounder for Brown, but I can't get behind trading a 1st rounder for him, and I can't get behind the idea that the 1st rounder won't matter if we've won.

We could be voted the greatest team ever at the end of the 2027 season, and I guarantee we'll have a need the following April on day 1 of the draft.

The great thing about being a winning organization and having that reputation is other teams will want your players. You can trade players you don’t want to pay, or who are about to get overpaid. I don’t think this iteration of the Pats is there yet, but put together another great season or two and maybe.

During the dynasty we had multiple instances of having two first round picks… so much so the league owners created fictional infractions to steal two of them from us. You trade a pick, you can trade a player and recoup a pick. The goal ultimately is to build the best team and win rings… the draft is only part of that.
