Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
IF KW pans out that's a start: until then beggars can't be choosers.
So you won’t acknowledge that even your own list of ‘what looks good’ wasn’t accomplished the AJ Brown way. Except for Waddle, who we don’t have any idea if it will even work out for Denver.

We don't care about the regular season, remember? All that matters is Brown's playoff stats for us.
The prevailing notion around here is that Brownis on his last legs at age 29 and I disagree. Also I have no doubts Brown could have 200yds Playoffs game I believe!

IF you don't think Waddle will be a #1 WR in Denver: you're not paying attension. Anybody on PatsFans can tell you noodle arm Tua was holding Waddle back. Denver is going to have an Elite WR Room.

Could someone help me understand what the Patriot's cap hits would be for acquiring AJ Brown for a post June 1 trade.
I've looked at Spotrac, ChatGpt, Google ai and it's confusing to me.
It's possible that the cap hits to the Patriots post June 1 trade would be:
2026: $7mm
2027: $11mm
2028: $18mm
2029: $24mm
(the actual cash payout by the Patriots is much higher but I only care about the cap hits).
If someone knows the right numbers and explain it, I'd really appreciate it.
If on the off chance these numbers are right, then my thoughts about trading for AJ Brown change.
These numbers average out to ~ $15mm per year and that's not discounting the back loaded numbers.
If AJ Brown is worth $25mm a year in the open market (arbitrary and discussion for another time) then the Patriots are getting roughly $10mm per year of surplus value for 4 years. That is a lot and quite meaningful. It makes me reframe how I think about a potential trade. Any help is much appreciated.

I like your enthusiasm. I don’t see a 200 yard playoff game, but I definitely think he has some left in the tank.

Ah screw it trade a bunch of picks to Cincy for Chase and watch the meltdown across the league. Lol

I think we should start a pool on just how many pages this thread will expand to exactly one week AFTER the trade is officially announced. Ian should put up a prize. I figure he has an old Patsfans T-shirt lying around, or maybe an old pair of underwear. It doesn't matter. It's symbolic really and it's the thought that counts.

I'll start. My guess is 168. About 25 pages til June and 30 in the week after and I'm probably low.

I'm seeing more and more rumors that Gonzo for AJ is what's on the table. Not sure that these are credible sources but there's no ****ing way our FO would make this dumbass move right?

Unless you see Schefter or the big reporters then they are junk.

I do not doubt that Shefter is correct, that it will be for a 2028 first. Not happy with that, but it does equate to a second round value as compared to a 2027 draft pick. Still do not like it because what happens if the 2028 year goes to hell for some reason. This is why I like the NBA trades that have conditions on the pick. First round pick protected from 1-16 would be fine. If inside 1-16 it goes to the next year and then covnverts to a second if it falls inside the first 16 picks in the second year as well. This is very common in the NBA. I have never seen it done in the NFL so I assume it is not allowed. An uprotected first round pick is dangerous for many reasons. That is why even for 2028, not a fan of trading a first round pick. But is sounds like it is a done deal, so hope AJ is great and the pick is in the late 20's or worse.

Yea not seeing that anywhere and have no idea why they would do it.

Christian Gonzalez for AJ Brown straight up? That is crazy talk. Obviously, the Pats will have to throw in Kayshon Boutte and their entire 2027 draft on top to get Brown.

The delusion of the Eagles fans is out of control.

Can't imagine how Eagles have the leverage to demand a first.

It didn't help, however, that we drafted not even one WR last weekend; nor have added anybody of any significance since the the Trooper Dobbs signing...

I am gonna go out on a limb and say it's a 2027 3rd and 5th in exchange for Brown. They have three 6ths next year, so throwing in the 5th is easier to do.

There are a couple other players who may net new picks in 2027 if they are traded away as well, such as if they move Boutte after acquiring Brown, or possibly trading Onwenu or Barmore.

Then why not just trade them one of those 6ths...?

Show some ****ing spine just this once, Eliot. Call their ****ing bluff...

Honestly, it would be a historically bad trade in terms of value. There's no way.

Sometimes the water gets chummed for extremely casual fans who will take the bait, traditionally on social media, to inflate engagement numbers, which is then used as leverage for advertising and sponsorships. I think this falls into that category. Or should at least be treated as such.

Philadelphia drafted a WR in the first round, so they need to move Brown more than we are desperate for him

He will be 29 before training camp, so there is no long future with Brown

A 2nd in 2027 & possibly a 3rd in 2028
Do not trade a first for a 29 year old Brown

In total agreement I'm hoping our First Four picks are all hits Lomu -Jacas - Raridon and Prunty. That would be like a continuation of last years Draft.

"...One of these is not like the other..."
